  1. I don't see why it wouldn't work, as I understand it, Windows is pretty good about detecting hardware, and also since it already sees what Processor I am running too, it shouldn't notice a difference. I also don't need to "activate" all my software, just get it installed enough to not have too reinstall. When you've got a lot of VSTs and such, trying to track some of them down is pretty difficult. The worst case is it doesn't work, and I just redrop the old Windows 10 image Marcium made onto my PC. Also, I partition the virtual drive to be the same size as the actual SSD it's going on. Yes, I understand customized profiles can be an issue, but I feel like that would depend on the individual software.
  2. Well Macrium Reflect has always worked for me, so I want answers from people that understand what I am trying to do. Thanks for the reply, but that wasn't the answer or question I was proposing. I already image my desktop 3 times a week but this is asking about a theory and I wanted to know if others think this will work.
  3. I have run into a really serious issue with my Windows 10 installed. It seems that Windows update, and the DISM tool, are both corrupted and I am unable to repair my install of Windows 10. Even trying to do an "offline" install from a flash drive doesn't work, and up to this point, after consulting a few friends in IT field, they seem to believe that my Windows 10 install is pretty corrupted. I can't even manually install updates anymore. So here is what I am trying to get around to asking. I use a really good backup imaging software called Macrium Reflect and what I was thinking of doing was make a VM in VMware Player 17, install Windows 11 to that, then look at the currently installed programs of my Windows 10 machine and install those same programs in Windows 11. Then use Macrium Reflect to create an image of that VM. Mraciuam makes a special file format called a .mrimg file. After making this special file, I was going to then boot my Windows 10 machine in the Windows PE environment that Macrium has built into it and literally drop that image from the VM of Windows 11 to my physical machine, and basically, I could pick up where I left off with everything installed. But I wanted to know 1, besides using Belarc, is there another way to get all my software license keys and a list of installed programs to help guide me in reinstalling? Also, does my above theory sound logical that it could work? Or is there another way to try to fix my Windows 10 install without going through this whole process? Let me know and thanks. EDIT: actually something else that came across my mind is, when I went to go setup my Windows 11 VM, VMware Player 17 had me setup a password for the virtualized TPM, so am I going to run into programs transferring my Windows 11 VM to my physical box with my motherboard's own TPM?
  4. I was trying to install the newest security patches (see screenshot) and I am getting errors 0x80070643 and similar. I tried Windows troubleshooter, didn't fix it. Tried following some guides on fixing the issue, didn't help. I also tried this batch script command from one of the YouTube guides I found and that didn't work either. Also the command "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" Says "Error: 32 The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." I hate to do extremes, but I am wondering if I should do either 1. Do an in-place Windows 10 upgrade, see if that fixes anything, or 2. just say the heck with it, and upgrade to Windows 11. I don't wanna reinstall windows because this is an editing machine and I don't have a lot of time these days to reinstall stuff and find all the licenses for things. What should I do?? Also, on top of that, my Macrium Reflect software has said a few times it can't find the Windows PE WIM files to make recovery media too. (not sure if that means I may have a corrupted OS or not. 5. Would you be able to help me, even remote, troubleshoot and get my Cyber Power UPS working with my TrueNAS Core Server?
  6. I understand what you told me, I am just always so afraid of messing up my install because I know Linux is not "idiot proof" and because It's storing data, I don't need to affect/lose anything. But I do want my UPS to talk to the server. The worst case is, I could just leave the USB cable unplugged and just shut the server down if the power goes out on me manually. Although, I guess I could take a snapshot of the server before messing around with it. Maybe that will cover my butt? EDIT: Also, as I understood it, you're supposed to leave the "username and password" as "default" according to the little question mark icon when I clicked it.
  7. Basically, I bought a UPS, I plugged it into my TrueNAS CORE Server, was able to at least find the right USB Port, and drive, but it's either not staying connected, or I have done something wrong, but I am getting this error message in the console and I have NO idea how to fix it. I tried asking in the TrueNAS Forums, but no one answered so I thought I'd try asking the lovely people here about it. Linux is not my main OS, but I do enjoy using TrueNAS and wanted to take care of it by plugging in a battery backup and configuring it correctly. The battery backup is a Cyber Power CP1350. If someone knows how to solve this, fix it, and get it working and stay working, I would be SOOO Grateful! This is the error message. 8. Any kind of corporation is a pain, and what's worst, if a 3rd party you use, say like a VST3 plugin, isn't supported on an alternate system like Linux, it makes it even worse. I am just trying to avoid any and all A.I. stuff in Windows, and just the other week, had to hide an update that was going to add Copliot to Windows 10. The funny thing is, the tool I used to hide that update, was a Microsoft product. xD
  9. I would like to know why we were told that Windows 10 was the last OS, and then they slapped us with Windows 11.
  10. If I were to upgrade my main workstation, do I HAVE TO reinstall Windows? I really don't wanna mess with VST/effect software licenses and have to remember every login and remember everything installed. Is there a way to grab an install list off my PC so I know what I had installed to make it easier to remember?
  11. What option do I have, if I really don't want to deal with the built-in A.I. software?
  12. I saw there was an Enterprise Windows 10, but didn't know if IoT was the same as desktop Enterprise Windows 10. I am not as familiar with making my own custom iSO Windows 11, and it is an option, but then you also have licenses to worry about with VST/VST3 plugins, and other software licenses. I don't wanna reinstall Windows again and have to try to remember EVERYTHING that is installed and go through the pain of finding all my keys for stuff.
  13. I have a few computers that I use for production stuff, audio, video, etc. The one machine is Windows 10 Pro, the other 2 are laptops that are Windows 11 Pro and Home. Where can I get LTS licenses for those machines? Especially the Windows 10 pro machine, upgrading to Windows 11 is COMPLETELY out of the question because of all the licenses for the audio and video software. Also, I REFUSE to upgrade to Windows 11 on my main work machine, it's bad enough that my 2 laptops have it. For the defendant's future, my Windows 10 Pro will have to stay that way and need LTS support. The same goes for my Windows 11 laptops, I will not install whatever next Windows there is because I do not want anything to do with the useless A.I. none-sense they've built into what comes next. Also before anyone says it, no Linux is not an option for me because of the video and audio editing software I use on a daily basis. Thanks in advance!
  14. Hey everyone! My mom has a bunch of old Vinyl records that she wants to be able to play again. I know there are a lot out there and it's hard to choose the right one. I was hoping the LTT community could suggest some. Needs to have: Audio output over RCA, or 8th-inch audio jack. Multiple speeds for different types of records. Easy to use. Blue would be cool to have as an option. Clear audio quality and easy to service if something breakdown. Price range: I am not sure what Record players are going for these days, but I'd say anything from $100 to $200, although if it hits the $300 range, that's fine too! Just not to crazy a price. Thanks in advanced!
  15. Can someone explain how I get the correct install file for Windows for ARM? I have an insider account but wasn't able to locate or install Windows for ARM. Also still having issues getting OBS Studio working on Jetson nano.
  16. Apparently, I have a Windows insider account, but I don't know where the download is for it. EDIT: I found the download, but it seems to be a VM Disk image, how do I get it for a Jetson Nano to write to an SD card?
  17. As far as I could tell I did update everything, apparently one of my friends that was testing this for me had to remove a few libraries, but then the Jetson complained about it so I had it repair it's libraries. I have always found Linux to be such an ass of a platform, but since Microsoft won't put their OS on other processor types, I am stuck having to use Linux. I'd like to attach a touch screen so I can use OBS in a UI to mobile live stream, but getting it set up is a pain to begin with.
  18. Well for some reason, after doing the first command, I ran that second command and got this error. ~$ sudo apt install obs-studio Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package obs-studio
  19. A few months ago, my former boss gave me a Nvidia Jetson Nano. It runs a custom version of Ubuntu with Nvidia drivers ontop of it. But as I find A.I. very stupid and useless, I'd like to find a way to install Windows or something that will support OBS Studio so I use it for IRL Live streaming. Does anyone know of a normal version of Linux I can run on this thing that will let me do just that or let me run some custom form of Windows on this and put it to better use than none-sense A.i. projects? Also, could I get something like a USB microphone and some kind of camera working on it for Live streaming? Thanks.
  20. I get so tired of rumors around tech. It's utterly disgusting. Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully, this remains true that it was only a rumor.
  21. I think this is awful! No one in their right mind is gonna go for this! Heck Apple doesn't even do this! I really don't understand what Microsoft's problem is. They're racking in enough money as it is right now, why they deem this necessary is beyond me. Not only that, but streamers, gamers, content creators, and media/audio/video people like me can't afford this but I also can't switch to Linux because a great majority of my software requires the use of Windows. I'm so sick of Microsoft and the shit they're trying to pull. But I hope this is false and not actually true.
  22. Power savings isn't a big deal for me, I just really don't know what to do with drives under 1TB.
  23. A friend has posted this article in my Discord tech channel, and I was wondering if anyone had some hard facts on this or not? If so, isn't Microsoft breaking Anti-trust laws, and couldn't this get them in some hot water with the FTC? Windows 12 May Require a Subscription.
  24. I have been trying to figure out what to do with all these odd-sized hard drives. So I thought I could use them with TrueNAS. Otherwise, I'd basically have to start over with I don't want too.
  25. Well, Unraid you have to pay for it, and I assume it's a monthly subscription license like everything else right? How come TrueNAS can't do anything with odd disks?
