Data issues aside; @LinusTech Regarding the Billet Labs situation, could you please publicly state and justify the monetary compensation paid out to Billet Labs for the “loss” of their prototype? What steps are you taking to prevent such issues in the future?

The Billet Labs thing is heartbreaking. Imagine being the people making that. Linus says he doesnt want to spend 500 dollars worth someones time retesting it but hes absolutely fine with stealing and selling off something someone has worked on for hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours? Even more tragically there might not even be a contractual agreement and Billet Labs might not be able to afford a lawsuit. Im going to unsub and not watch a second of LMG content until this is resolved and i urge others to do the same.

Billet Labs have been treated disgustingly by Linus and LMG and they should be ashamed of themselves.

They set that block up for failure from the start, used wrong card model entirely, wasn’t mounted correct as a result, shot the block to bits in the review because they made a mes sod the review, didn’t send it back and then sold it at auction.

And in the WAN show he just continued to double down on dumping all over the block even though LMG did everything wrong.

That section made me very upset and Linus deserves everything he gets for that one.

As for the shoddy results from tests, well when you don’t take stickers of a mouse then criticise it ……. hardly a shock the rest of the standards are suspect.

There are some questions around impartiality but the biggest issue is how dirty they did billet labs.

"We can't spend a few hundred bucks to make sure we're not irreparably damage a companies reputation"
Seriously? To make 100% sure before you fuck over a startup you can't spend an hour or two to double check your results?
And then you SOLD the block at an auction causing them to be stalled as they no longer have their best prototype! What the absolute fuck????

GN did actually offer returns, even after months, to anyone affected.

Here's GN's response to that issue - I started the video where they explain the situation.
    1. They immediately marked the mat as "Out of Stock" so that no on else would buy them.
    2. They attempted to find a means to fix the issue by correcting the mats and failed to find one.
    3. They created pinout cards to send to affected customers, which include not only the correction, but additional pinout info. They also made metal pins featuring the corrected pinout. Anyone affected was sent an email where they could get a kit featuring these. Anyone who didn't want a kit was allowed to return the mod mat for a refund instead.
    4. They did then decide to sell the remaining mod mats, however, with the full correction kit, and with complete transparency on their website about what you were getting.

The part where it is alleged LTT auctioned off a prototype water block they promised to return is troubling. That requires an official response.

Can't speak for audiophile level needles/carts per se, I DJ on 1200's with Shure M44-7's, but my vinyl friends always tend to go Ortofon. Their higher end carts are always well spoken of for listening duties. Then there's this: https://www.turntablelab.com/collections/turntable-cartridges-over-200/products/sumiko-amethyst-cartridge that fits the price range, though I don't know much about them.

spartaman64 got a reaction from Psittac in Help me understand audio graph's?
this is a very contentious topic. the main measurement that the debate is centered around is sinad which is signal to noise + distortion. some say that sinad is pretty much the end all be all measurement and as long as an dac/amp has reached a certain sinad it sounds exactly the same as any other dac/amp that hit that number.
other people say sinad only tells you if a product is broken and there are differences between dacs/amps even with the same sinad.

im in sort of a middle ground because ive heard differences between dacs/amps with > 90 sinad that group A says should have no difference but ive also heard minimal / no difference between dac/amps that group B says should be a huge improvement. also in general i havent heard any huge improvements at least compared with changing headphones

even if you need a headset theres the audeze maxwell. i didnt get to hear it at canjam but many people i trust said it sounded really good and it seems to measure well.

im not sure where to begin with this post. so you listened to one headset thats a gaming headset not really aimed at sound quality nonetheless and declared that all headphones under 5000 dollars are worse than 5 dollar earbuds. yeah im not sure about that one

i cant think of a consumer dac that can do that. you probably need an audio interface/mixer. i see online you can do it on the analog side with a combining cable which is what you might have been talking about. idk if it significantly degrades the audio or not

i personally like foam tips. maybe something like a comply t500. you have to squish them up at the beginning but i find after a while they soften up and are comfortable just putting them in.
but if you want to stick to silicone i heard good things about spinfit and jvc spiral dots tips.

i mean isnt the point that this might be good for pc and xbox users but bad for playstation users thus anticompetitive. US anticompetitve laws are more around anticompetitive behavior than if a company is an actual monopoly
