  1. Hey, I'm just trying to get some advice/planning on the best PC build I can make with 3k. I'll be starting from scratch, with no peripherals or monitor. The purpose of the build, is so I can focus more on producing/recording/mixing music. Since i'll be moving from a Mac, but still wanting to use Mac software (Logic, Reason for music etc.) I'm hoping that some skilled individuals can instruct me in the best method possible. I may do a little gaming down the line, but mainly the computer will be for music production/web browsing. Is a Hackintosh the best way to go for this? 1. Budget & Location My current budget is $3000 (Australian Dollars). 2. Aim Build a rig mainly for producing music, 3. Monitors I'm thinking of just one monitor for the time being, I might add another in future. 1080p is fine. 4. Peripherals I won't have any peripherals, as this is a new build. A studio soundboard, or keyboard with piano keys and/drum pad would be ideal. Along with speakers capable of previewing tracks at their exported sound quality. (so i'm not having to go back and mess around with master mixes, once I've realised bass or vocals are too low.) 5. Why are you upgrading? I'd like to focus more on producing music
  2. Sorry, i was in a rush and BBcode isn't second nature to me.
  3. Yeah, it looks weird. But it's probably a power thing. Stronger fan needed for the GPU than the memory?

  5. I'm an Auto Electrician, who works in a store that also sells vehicle and common consumer grade batteries. Please allow me to clear up some confusion... Cell degradation is not some reversible effect, it is the result of interaction between the zinc within a cell and the electrolyte solution. In a typical AA or AAA battery the process of electrolysis creates reactionary compounds within the solution that gradually slow the ability of a cell to produce current and it lowers the voltage. The only way this item could 'convince' a remote that the batteries are still fine, is if it stored energy somehow to be slowly released with the normal discharge of the battery. It could be achieved by using a small bank of capacitors, which isn't impossible. This item is real. You're referring to step up/down transformers, where voltage is induced from one coil to a larger/smaller coil in order to increase/decrease it. but that isn't what this product is. The reason why the voltage in power lines are 'stepped up' is because of impedance over the length of the wire. Too much distance to travel causes too much voltage to drop in the circuit, so they step it up only to step it down again once it reaches your house. Because the 'stepped up' voltage produces a weak/useless AC wavelength, until it is reduced and the wave length corrected.
  6. This post is a joke, to counter the fact that people keep posting shit about the 980Ti and it isn't even released yet.
  7. Go back to your bluescreen. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/365657-random-blue-screen/
  8. True. But it wasn't presented with such showmanship.
  9. Work computer, thanks for noticing though.
  10. Can we please hold off on the GTX 980Ti posts untill it's actually here, now?
  11. My monitor is 2560X1440. How come it only happens at Low res? Thanks by the way, i understand what you're saying now.
  12. Yeah, i agree. That's why i asked in terms of future gaming. My concern everytime i build is to future proof the rig as much as possible. Considering that the CPUs for the 2011-3 motherboards don't come in 4 core varients, this is only a discussion between the 8 core and the two 6 core versions. I'm running 2 Gen 3.0 cards in SLI over X16 slots, and although current games don't fully saturate the PICe lanes at X16 speed, i still feel as thought the 40 PCIe laned 5930K is a better future proofing option in the long run, because i can imagine alot more communication being achieved with DirectX 12 and 28 lanes just doesn't seem like it will cut it. (Albeit, the increase from X8 to X16 is almost unnoticable, it's still valid to want your rig to be able to perform in the highest possible scenario. Even if that doesn't exist yet). That being out of the way, my issue comes back to the capabilities of future games with 8 cores over 6. I think the 5930K is a great CPU, but i'm just not sure if the core count would make it the BEST available for 2011-3 motherboards, once DX12 is released. Because of the added Hyperthreading support. Do you think future games will produce a work load that might justifiy the use of more cores? I know right now, it's basically one core doing (most of) all the work in DX11. It's hard to explain why i feel so drawn to the higher end/costing products when building. It's just more psychologically appealing knowing that your system is made of the best consumer grade stuff available, even if you have no intention of actually utilising it's power. (Although i will be with my work load, i guess people like me have access to more funds, then sense).
  13. I agree, Gilliard seemed to take the political fall for the carbon tax, then the Labour Party reintroduced Rudd in the hope of being Re-elected. They kinda shot themselves in the foot.
  14. That CPU won't fit in my motherboard? I got it for vids and gaming. But no-one has answered as to whether 8 cores or 6 cores of hyper threading will be better for gaming, once directx 12 is released. I can't understand, theoretically why it wouldn't be the complete best CPU, once DX12 makes use of hyperthreaded cores. Do you have a reference for that claim about hyper threading not exceeding 6 cores? Because all the 2011-3 CPUs have 2 hyperthreads per core.
  15. Do you have a source for this? I don't understand. How am i fine if i already own it, but shouldn't buy it if i don't? Why would the CPU be so expensive in the first place if it didn't already sit at the top tier? I do own it, but i'm still in return period.
