Back from Japan! I already miss it so, so much.
Fantastic country that I can highly recommend to anyone. It really has something for everyone. Very friendly people, very clean streets, lots and lots of things to do, fantastic food, etc.

I only have 3 bad things to say about the country.
Their toilet paper was terrible. Extremely thin and disintegrated as soon as liquid touched it. A lot of restrooms did not have any way to dry your hands after washing them. Most had air dryers (really good ones at that, the Dyson AirBlade type) but a large portion expected you to have your own handkerchief with you and dry yourself on that. Their tap-water had a faint taste of chlorine. It was barely noticeable, and the levels of chlorine in the water is very small to the point where it is not a health risk (tap water in Japan is very heavily controlled and safe to drink) but it still didn't taste as good and clean as it does in Sweden.

    New stuff in Firefox 65:
Support for AV1 (and also includes dav1d, although it does not have the full performance yet because Mozilla's build tools does not use asm) Support for WebP. Better late than never, but I have given up hope for WebP. It's a shame it didn't take off. MSI installer for Windows. Support for Handoff on MacOS. New tracking protection options. Only block in private window, block all trackers at all times, or custom settings. New way how languages are handled, making it easier to set preferences for languages and using multiple language packs. Some minor changes to the about:performance page.

If you're a sysadmin in charge of Windows 7 computers, get ready for a ton of "this copy of Windows is not genuine" messages.
Microsoft changed how their activation server responds to queries, and now a bunch of machines are starting to fail to verify their keys.

The issues seems to be that with KMS activated computers, machines are suppose to talk to your onsite KMS server to validate the license. However, KB971033 added an additional check in order to prevent piracy. With KB971033 installed, computers also check against Microsoft's servers. It seems like Microsoft changed how their server responds to these queries yesterday, and as a result activation now fails.

Uninstalling KB971033 and reactivating Windows against your KMS seems to fix the issue. Instructions for doing so can be found in this Spiceworks thread.

AMD, Intel and ARM processors are vulnerable.

Intel has come forth and said that some of the already existing patches stops some of these attacks though. Not sure if that's accurate and if it is, not sure if it also applies to AMD and ARM processors or if they are still vulnerable even with patches applied.

    My new NAS has arrived!
It's a lot smaller than I expected. So far I'm really impressed by the Synology software.
Transferring all my files from the old NAS to the new NAS will take about 20 hours....

    Old setup:
    2x2TB | 1x3TB | 1x4TB, in RAID5 (which means all drives are acting as 2TB ones)
6TB usable storage, with 1 spare drive.

    New setup:
    2x2TB | 1x3TB | 4x4TB in SHR.
15TB usable storage, with 2 spare drives (and 1 slot left for a future drive).

I love watching videos analyzing things, especially things you have never really thought of before, and this one is a perfect example of that.
It's about sharing headphones and why it's romantic.
It's short (3,5 minutes), really well made, and makes well thought out comments about society. Highly recommend checking out.
