Northstorm got a reaction from AngryPandaPC in Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
I would LOVE a video where @LinusTechgoes to FreeGeek or something (Dumpster-diving, flea-market, thrift-store), and just goes completely nostalgia on stuff and reminisce about how cool this or that doodad was when it came out, I love whenever Linus gets sidetracked, so why not fill a whole video with it?
If you collab with FreeGeek, Linus can also help raise awareness of how we can reduce waste, by reusing and recycling things?

Does Gigabyte alternating fan directions matter or is it just marketing?

Just a quick one. Have you tried all of the inputs? As in all the USB ports (for the Blue Snowball) and both the case and mobo I/O's if it's a normal jack headphone?

Northstorm got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in Danish Police takes a shot at Battlefront 2 in "How to avoid Con-Artists" campaign
As part of an awareness campaign, against "Trick-Thievery" (con-artists), the police or northern Jutland in
Denmark in a Tweet today, took shots at the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, when they tweeted out:
"Have you, or someone you know, been victims of Trick-Thievery?
Or did you just happen to buy Star Wars Battlefront II?
Then join us here, and avoid being tricked [Link]"
I find it most amusing that the police has a sense of humor on the topic, along with being pretty "up to speed"
with current event.
I hope it's allowed to post this in the Tech section.

Aye, I feel QHD would have made more sense

Northstorm reacted to Maslofski in A 49" 32:9 monitor from Philips? Why not.
this is even a massive size upgrade for a 34" 21:9 owner. the resolution is shit thought, its like two 1080p 27" screens. 5120x1600 would make more sense

Northstorm got a reaction from Taf the Ghost in A 49" 32:9 monitor from Philips? Why not.
Did you think LG's new 42" 4k monitor was big, think again!
Phillips is prepearing to release thier new 49-inch 32:9 UltraWide curved monitor, the Philips 492P8.
The monitor is supposidly going to come in at just under $1100, and is repordetly going to be released
in Q2 of 2018.
Some spec highlights are:
49-inch VA display panel
Native resolution of 3840 × 1080 pixels
32:9 aspect ratio
Brightness up to 600cd/m²
Contrast up to 5000:1
Personally, I'm curious to see, if 3840*1080 isn't a tad bit small for a monitor this size, especially the screen-door effect.

Northstorm got a reaction from Mira Yurizaki in Can a CPU be a bottleneck without hitting 100% on ANY of the cores?
Thanks a lot, this makes fine sense to me, I was think that syncronization and thread halting might be one of the issues.
And I'm not worried about my current system, I know full well my 1070 is the bottle neck, I'm just inquisitive about the entire thing

Northstorm reacted to Kenoxabe in The situation at Tek syndicate
I was pertaining to myself as a fan, you silly man
In all honesty, I was aware I was necro'ing this thread. I just thought to myself that instead of making a new thread about the situation at TekSyn, why not just post on an already existing thread which A) not locked liked the previous one; and B) Not so much as an old thread yet since there wasn't any notice below (by the time I posted the joke) that it was already an old thread.
Unless of course there was already a notice, I wouldn't post on it.

But why necro a thread that hasn't been posted in, in over two weeks, if you have nothing new to contribute?...

Northstorm reacted to Naman Gupta in What language to learn as a beginner?
C++ is much more "complex" language in the sense that the syntax is finnicky and the rules are stricter. I started with C++ and have no regrets but now that I have more experience, I only wish I had started with Python.
Javascript is similar to Python but Python is much more versatile.

Northstorm reacted to ShadowCaptain in Xioami releases their new Mi NoteBook Air with a new surprising GPU
See for me its the opposite to you
1080p is perfect for the size since Windows does not scale as well as OSX and 1080p at 13" is still a decently high PPI display
16gb ram would be nice, but 8gb is fine for 95% of users and tasks
prefer 16:9 for regular content, gaming etc
GPU great for light gaming, video encoding etc, its a 940m so it shouldnt be creating too much heat etc
I am genuinly impressed

Northstorm reacted to JorithZ in Videos lagging when gaming (WMP, YouTube, Vessel)
Sadly i do not have a solution, but i do have the exact same trouble since not too long.
Full-screen games, make any video playback choppy, be it in my browser or media player classic.
Im running:
6700k with h100igtx
evga 980ti sc
16 gb corsair platinum.
Everything else seems to run great and my hardware can easily handle the load. Did not used to be this way, only started a while back.

@Northstorm you tried changing the DPI scaling?

Northstorm reacted to Weak1ings in Help needed for first build and component options
First off: Hold your horses for Pascal!
Next:
Why an AMD CPU? It is simply slower than an i5, which you can adjust to cost the same by choosing slower RAM.
(mobo will be around the same.)
CPU cooler: The Cryorig H7 is going to be quieter and perform a little better than the Hyper 212, and might look better to some.
GPU: wait of course,
PSU: I have not searched, but there seems to be this consensus against the CX series by Corsair. If there is any concern about it, I recommend choosing something like a SeaSonic S12II 620W (or EVGA G2/ virtually anything not NEX series, which is just first-gen EVGA and not from Superflower or Seasonic for OEM.)
