BlueChinchillaEatingDorito got a reaction from LAwLz in what would you consider a basic pc in 2024?
You should change your title to "low-end gaming PC" and not "basic PC". PC gamers still only make up a small percentage of the overall computer market.

Most people would be serviced just fine with integrated graphics, and not even the newest chips. Integrated graphics on Intel Core 7th gen from 2017 is still good enough for 4K60 YouTube streaming so that's plenty fast for basic use. A mid-spec Surface Pro 5 (stay away from the 4GB RAM models) would still have enough horsepower to power through daily tasks with ease and blow away anything you can get for sub 300 dollars any day.

    Are you gaming on Linux?

Most people playing on windows spend very little time troubleshooting. If you are having to do alot of it, there might be a deeper issue with your PC.

Built my first rig during lockdown, thanks to the LTT crew and forums for all the knowledge!  Haven't stopped building since, the only parts left from the original build are 3 LL fans and 2 sticks of ram.  The res, cpu and gpu blocks have the rgb tied to respective temps. Already thinking of ways to clean up the loop and dreaming of hard line copper!

Anyone thinking of the Thermaltake tower 200 I'm loving mine. Fits matx and you can just fit an ultra thin rad with 15mm fans behind the back panel if you remove the hard drive cage and offset the rad to route the tubes.

Most inventory systems are like that. When you click "place order", it doesn't mean that inventory in the system gets reserved for you. In a perfect world, it does, but we're not there yet for most marketplaces.

I presume since the tablet is for a child, that port isn't going to be used for data much. It'll be used for charging 99% of the time. And as for efficiency, well the minimal increase in the electricity bill would likely be outweighed by the number of cables being replaced over a year.

Just throwing out ideas, but perhaps retrofitting wireless charging to the tablet could also be a solution.

BlueChinchillaEatingDorito reacted to Spotty in Why leave locked topics on the forums?
Generally; If content is violating the rules it is removed. If it is likely to elicit responses that break the rules it is locked. It's up to the moderator's discretion to decide what is best for each case.

There can be some benefit in people seeing some posts that get locked as people can see what isn't allowed and learn from it. People are also less likely to repost it after it is locked than after it is deleted because they know everybody can see that they've already posted it and already been told it's not allowed so people won't help. In my experience with dealing with people, people do seem to often consider locking a thread to be a "softer" approach than outright deleting it. If the OP wants a locked thread deleted they can just send a mod a message and we are normally happy to do that (though there are cases where some locked threads are left up for transparency sake).

For something like the thread you're talking about the original post itself is not really harmful to the community leaving it up but further discussion (such as posts giving instructions on how to bypass security restrictions/hack systems) would be violating the forum rules. The thread is locked to prevent posts that are likely to violate the forum rules. If the post itself was violating the rules, such as if it was a guide on how to bypass school restrictions, then in that situation that post would be removed instead of locked.

The forum rules apply to messages. If you break the rules via messages you can still be banned. Especially if you do so after a moderator has posted saying that it's against the rules and you try to find ways to break the rules without being caught.

As alluded, this is a public and open space. No one is obligated to help or provide you with an answer. If you're finding lot of other threads getting solved and yours aren't, then its likely the way your presenting your issue/situation that may be causing it. Try looking for alternative methods for presenting your information you're looking for help from.

It's not a technical issue though.

It's not a bug to be fixed by a developer or something for a moderator to take care of. People either aren't interested in your question to begin with, have no answer to your question, or aren't interested in continuing the conversation for some other reason.

Neither you nor a moderator can force people to continue a conversation they aren't interested in. So you might want to reflect why people abandon your question or accept that you've already been given an answer, even if you might not like it.

If youve never done a custom water cooled system, i honestly do not recommend getting one from one of these builders. You still have to do Maintenance, and its going to cost you SO much more. Just buy a air cooled PC or one with an AIO.

Custom cooled PCS like those are huge wastes of money, and theres really no point in burning that money just cause you can.

BlueChinchillaEatingDorito reacted to Needfuldoer in Any to worries when using PayPal to sell items on Facebook marketplace?
If you do the transaction via PayPal, make sure you update PayPal with the tracking information. That way if and when the buyer claims they never received it, you've at least got some paper trail.

Honestly, I wouldn't go through with this transaction. The artificial urgency makes this sound like a scam. There's a good chance they'll send you a phony PayPal confirmation and claim they never received the card. They'll dispute the payment, and you'll be out both the GPU and the money.

Marketplace is for in-person cash transactions. I only sell things on eBay, where you at least have a snowball's chance of not getting ripped off as the seller.

BlueChinchillaEatingDorito reacted to Skipple in Any to worries when using PayPal to sell items on Facebook marketplace?
Personally I would only accept paypal not a a seller but as a gift/friend/whatever they call it. When using paypal as a seller, it comes with a whole bunch of buyer protections that can unfortunately be exploited. If you do need to go to the seller route, make sure you take excellent photos of the package, get tracking numbers, etc. If the GPU is very expensive, it may be worth shelling out for signature.

That said, it's completely within your right to back out and do a cash deal locally if you want to avoid all that.
