  1. 4tb is enough for now but i plan on doing a raid one at some point. next year i plan on upgrading to xeon e5's by the end of the year. after adding hdds throughout next year to the server
  2. dont need per core erformance just need something that is power efficient but powerful and its going to be a server i can access anywhere i am what battery back up do you recomend its mostly going to be used to back up my laptop, desktop, store word documents, and my photos from my phone, and be a data dump for non used files that i might need in the future
  3. so im building a server for college and i am willing to spend up to 900$ requirements: 4tb hdd 4 or more cores at least 8gb ram and case that can hold 4 hdds for room for more storage mb needs to be able to raid 4 drives together for future heres the list i built for under 800 [PCPartPicker part list](http://pcpartpicker.com/list/mgbFZ8) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://pcpartpicker.com/list/mgbFZ8/by_merchant/) Type|Item|Price :----|:----|:---- **CPU** | [Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/7V7CmG/intel-cpu-bx80662i76700) | $304.99 @ Amazon **Motherboard** | [ASRock H170M-ITX/DL Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/CHBrxr/asrock-motherboard-h170mitxdl) | $87.98 @ Newegg **Memory** | [G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/RTJkcf/gskill-memory-f42666c15s8gvr) | $38.98 @ Newegg **Storage** | [OCZ TRION 150 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/rwcMnQ/ocz-internal-hard-drive-trn15025sat3240g) | $65.86 @ Amazon **Storage** | [Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/rkV48d/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd40efrx) | $149.99 @ Newegg **Case** | [NZXT Source 530 ATX Full Tower Case](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/y6kD4D/nzxt-case-caso530m1) | $79.99 @ Amazon **Power Supply** | [Corsair CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply](http://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hkwrH/corsair-power-supply-cp9020102na) | $59.99 @ Amazon | *Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts* | | **Total** | **$787.78** | Generated by [PCPartPicker](http://pcpartpicker.com) 2016-10-05 11:17 EDT-0400 |
  4. He didn't state what gen I think he meant any generation He runs a i7 2600k at stock with a 780
  5. What will bottleneck a 900 series card more a fx 6300 or a i5 6500 it's an argument between me and a friend and I'm telling him an i5 6500 will not bottleneck a 900 series but he says it will I think he doesn't understand the concept of IPC. He says u need an i7 to run a 900 series card without a bottleneck.
  6. So i have about 500$ laying around and from how amd has things priced right now. **Not saying that zen will be priced the same** Should I wait for zen to come out and get their mid high range cpu equivalent to the 8350 and get a good overclocking mobo or upgrade my system to the z170 or x99 platforms.
  7. *my boot drive is a 1tb seagate hdd *culprit: ocz trion 100 240gb ssd So all of a sudden my computer stopped booting on Sunday. At first i thought my windows installation was corrupt. So i tried to do startup repair but it just looped. Then today I decided to unplug all my other hdds and my ssd. And the computer booted. So i went about trying every drive combo in the computer. Every other drive combo without the ssd allowed my computer to boot, the ones with the ssd didnt boot. I have had this same ssd in my computer for almost 6+ months now and now its not letting my computer boot. I have some game saves on this ssd that i dont want to lose. Any helpful info is appreciated
  8. If any one knows where i can get a good overclocking motherboard for a cheap price that would help as when I get a new pc this one is going to a friend so at least the performance I can get now will be used after I get a better pc
  9. thanks for the input guys im thinking of going to intel down the road anyways but not till next summer so i wanted to get this cpu working at peak performance before then
  10. just looked and it has a 4+2 power phase so ill probably need to get a new mobo sooner or later how much damage could i do if i overclock it too much for the board
  11. I've been looking at watercooled overclocks for my cpu as i am getting a 120mm liquid cooler due to my corsair carbide spec 03 not supporting a 240mm at least I think. I have pretty much the settings down for what I want. I think my motherboard might be an issue in this I have an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 so would I be able to achieve a 4.8 to 5.0 ghz overclock or would I have to get a new mb. **this was a bugget build as the reason I went with amd becuase as every one says like I did, more cores and overclocking.
  12. the fx cpu is good but for better performance any intel cpu 4th gen i5 or i7 would be best at least in my eyes
  13. i play arma dayz etc alot of intense games but since my one friend has a mac we have to play certain games with him i also play world of tanks which is horrible on my cpu and my cpu bottlenecks my gpu in that game
