  1. Why is Microsoft in the list of Khronos contributors? I really don't see how they can benefit from contributing in Vulkan's development.
  2. Sure, unless he goes around posting in the Tech News section, cherry-picking lines, reading only the title of his source and drawing conclusions based on that. At the very least this deserves a ban from this section, as in not posting any more news. In the scenario he mentioned, competition will exist. Intel will be able to make dedicated GPUs and Nvidia will be able to make desktop CPUs, as such both companies will compete on both fronts.
  3. I try as hard as I can not to look at video comments. They're all dreadful.
  4. Less of a complaint, more of a suggestion. If I was running a business I would try to cater to as much of my audience as possible. I doubt it would have been very difficult to obtain say a 6790 and run the same tests. I'm not trying to bash anyone, I just went into the video expecting to see an old AMD card and an old Nvidia card, as one typically would, since the YouTube title didn't particularly mention the 480.
  5. I heavily doubt that 80% of your audience own an Nvidia card. While it is probable that Nvidia card owners are more abundant over here, it wouldn't stretch to 80%. This is because people in this community are mostly PC Builders which make educated decisions with regards to purchasing their parts. Nvidia's 80% market share is aided by the fact that most prebuilt Dells and HPs have Nvidia GPUs preinstalled (GT 610 and GT 730 for example), and even within PC builders some buy parts without realizing their comparative performance and the general consensus in the public is that Nvidia GPUs are better across the board, so people seem to go with that. Over here I would guess the percentage is more in the 60-40 range though. Not claiming any bias, just stressing the importance of making similar comparisons for AMD cards as well.
  6. The user manual has a warning which specifically tells you inserting the S-Pen backwards could break things: This probably means that the issue was indeed identified during testing. Now whether or not they make another revision of the phone that somehow blocks upside-down insertion is really anyone's guess.
  7. Price difference between a 860K and an A8-7650K is about 30USD over here, don't you think the iGPU inside the A8 is worth 30 bucks? May I ask which Athlon he was using? For example the 740, 750 and 760 K were using the Bulldozer architecture on a 32nm process if I remember correctly, the 860K is based on the same Steamroller arch. as the Kaveri APUs. Look at this page showing the benchmarks of this A8 paired with a GTX 770/R9 285. In some cases it does trail behind an i3, but the lead is often insignificant (admittedly with the exception of Grid:Autosport, guessing that game is heavily single-threaded) and other times the A8 shows equal performance to that of the i3.
  8. I plan to build this computer and follow it up with a mid-range GPU upgrade about a year from now. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD A8-7650K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($111.07 @ Amazon Canada) Motherboard: MSI A78M-E35 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($74.99 @ Memory Express) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($78.50 @ Vuugo) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.99 @ Canada Computers) Case: Cougar MG100 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($156.16 @ Amazon Canada) Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ NCIX) Disclaimer: I used Canadian PCPartPicker because it was the only one that gave me prices for all the parts I chose, in fact I plan to buy these parts from the UAE. Disclaimer #2: The CX430M is a place-holder for the XFX TS430 which was nowhere to be found on PCPP. The Corsair Vengeance Pro is also the cheapest "fast RAM" around here, for APU-purposes. I also have no idea why that Cougar case is 150 CAD lol. My question is, will this APU present a bottleneck for a GPU that is for example, at the performance level of an R9 380? Also for any A8-7650K owners how does it perform in day-to-day tasks and light gaming such as in CS GO?
  9. Thing is if the new GPUs perform a lot better, expect current GPUs' values to tank hard, you're likely to only get a fraction of your money back in that case.
  10. Isn't that supposed to be like a year from now? Wouldn't make much sense splashing $650 on a GPU you're going to replace in a year, not for everyone at least.
  11. Since both AMD and Nvidia are moving towards 14/16nm manufacturing processes, is it a terrible time to get a GPU now since basically all modern GPUs are based on the aging 28nm node? Basically, will the new GPUs offer massive performance games that it would be dumb to get a GPU now?
  12. In my opinion Adaptive Sync will end up being adopted by Nvidia. Afterwards AMD, Intel and Nvidia will basically have certification processes for monitors which vendors can apply for, naturally AMD, Intel and Nvidia will each have their own certification criteria and thus will have some sort of control. As such the highest end products will have all 3 certifications. A monitor may unofficially support Adaptive Sync in this case, but having no certification means things like variable refresh rate range will be unregulated, and it will be a buy-at-your-own-risk sort of thing.
  13. These results by arstechnica are far more mindblowing: I mean, the 290X achieves almost the same avg. FPS as a 980 Ti. That said though, 1 game is still a too small sample size to make any meaningful conclusions, we shall see though. 14. It is kind of buggy. I would really wait till October 1st for the final release before using it day to day as a main OS.
  15. Let me know how that goes for you. Update: Like I said it is a beta and it shows in some places. For example, I am currently unable to connect a printer to the laptop I have this distro installed on, this is the error message:
