according to stockx.ca ,this card was retail priced at $1,200 ,so it's pretty close to retail right now on newegg (but maybe not original msrp)

gaming z is the oc version, more oc-ed than gaming x. i think it's a good card.

but if i were you, and if i could wait, then i would wait, until june when eth2 starts (it's still scheduled for june), or maybe may, just before june, and i think we will see waves of gpu price drop.

    here:

unless something happens between now and ethereum pos, but i would just try and wait it out.

hey, 6800 and 6900 are just as good, and you get more vram, but of course, if dlss and ray tracing is your thing, then maybe the green team.

but i think 16g vram is more useful in the long run. imo

im really considering this card, it's priced really well and it's exactly the model i'd want...but i don't know when the next gen cards are coming out and this card might very well sell for 799$ just 3 months from now...😬

on the other hand i have the box and everything my current 1080ti gaming X trio is pristine and could probably fetch 720$CAD online or something locally...

Can't really say about games, but it's a great phone. There's a reason I bought another one after I cracked the first one. Both are still in use, and I use my main one for work.

Only thing that you might want to worry about is software support. It's very close to it's end-of-life period if it isn't already. The performance for the price you're paying is quite good but don't expect flagship-level stuff. Treat it like perhaps a lower-end midrange phone- that is, don't expect the greatest pictures, performance, ect. but expect it to do a fairly decent job at everything, and It won't disappoint.

IMO that's a decent price. It's just a bit more than I paid this past summer for my second S9, though mine has some screen burn.

In my experience this is good for about 5-10 fps depending on the game.

*Whooping* 5 FPS, that is HUGE especially at 1440p.

I also get the angle that this isn't all that great , but you can get some noticeable gains with overclocking 3070 cards, you'd know that if you followed a couple of tech channels who all already proofed this. (I recommend Tech Jesus for the ice and flowing hair, and jayztwocents for the dremel action 😄)

I was simply curious what's up with the power limit difference on some cards, it's quite curious anyways.

Do you have a source for this statement?

Would be good to know either way, but generally lower temps means higher clock speeds and I haven't found anything regarding Ampere GPU boost analysis at all so far...

I tried to look for a review that included the ASUS PRIME Z490-A, Gigabyte Z490 Vision G, and Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite...but no such luck.
If you look at the spec of the FETs used for the power stages for the VRM...just the CPU part
Vision G is 12 phase (12 true phases) using SiC651A FETs, rated at 50A each Aorus Elite is also 12 phase (12 true phases) using the same SiC651A 50A FETs... only ting different is the heatsink and layout of them vs the Vision G. ASUS PRIME Z490-A is 12 phase (6 true phase with doublers) but using NCP302045 FETs, rated at 45A each Hardware Unboxed has a Z490 review with both the Vision G and Aorus Elite.
The VRMs on the Aorus Elite consistently running a few *C cooler than the Vision G...but not much (2*C ~ 3*C better).

To be honest, either one will be 100% fine when paired with an OC'ed i7-10700K.

FYI, my cheat sheet (there are a couple for AMD AM4 motherboards, Intel Z390 / Z370, etc).

i_build_nanosuits got a reaction from Bombastinator in 3080's 10GB VRAM: Is it enough?
with the next gen consoles just coming out...future mega next gen AAA titles havn't started to hit yet...hard to say.
As for right now, for VR you want more for supersampling even my 1080ti is maxing out 11GB in a few instances and 3080 is almost twice the performance...so yeah i ain't planing on a 10GB for an upgrade personally...for 1440P games it's enough, but in 2 or 3 years it might come short in a few instances...no big deal.

    So i'd say:
Great for 1440p, not quite engouh for future VR and not enough for future 4K but okay for now. (also VR ok for now in most instances, only high end sims with supersampling you hit max, but no stuttering yet just maybe some slight slowdowns here and there)

I was a bit surprised there wasn't already a subforum for it, perhaps there just aren't enough posts about VR to justify it's own subform/topic whatever it is called?

Edit: I forgot to say I would also appreciate a subforum for VR/AR, but if there isn't enough support for it that is totally understandable.

Just test it out. Check for marks on the PCB, dust build-up etc. I am not that anal when it comes to situations like this one. If card works and has no issues along with a valid warranty I'll use it. I might contact the seller and ask for a coupon or few dollars back but I wouldn't be mad if I didn't get any.
