It's nice to know I'm not alone. I just thought it was really odd. I've never encountered it in any of the builds I've put together since 2008.

Mine does this when I turn the monitor on at just the right/wrong time during post, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

The OS works great. However, for the best experience, wait until the next version of Windows 11 coming up later this year (prob Oct).
In terms of stability, performance, compatibility, and support, it is excellent. In terms of polish, wait until the next version of Windows 11. Lots and lots of improvement (the majority is minor stuff, but it all ad\ds up to deliver a superior experience).

Depending on your system specs, you may need to ensure that you have the latest UEFI/BIOS installed on your motherboard.
Of course, ensure that you have the absolute latest drivers for everything once you upgrade. Pay special focus for chipset drivers.

My personal recommendation for upgrades (beside suggesting a clean installation to be favored).
If you have any security software, uninstall it before upgrading. Re-install them once you have installed Windows 11. Make sure you have all your software updated to the latest version, including installed Games. (This is related to DRM and Anti-Cheat systems which tend to be in the form of poorly made drivers and can cause issues with the upgrade process)
You should be fine. Windows 11 is based on Windows 10.

Not worth it right now unless you have HDR monitor since there are some more optimisations for HDR but otherwise it behaves like W10 with more bugs right now... and some other things are just stupid because they messed up the UI to such extent that you may throw your PC out of the window if it gets on your nerve.

If you thought the search in W10 was bad... oh boi...

Instead of asking other people, who might have personal opinions about Windows 11 rather than purely technical responses, why not use an app like Macrium Reflect or Aeomi to create an image (and start up flash drive, tested to make sure it works) of your current system drive, then 'upgrade' to Win11 to try it for yourself, or even better do a clean install.
With a backup image of your Win10 ready to re apply any time you want you will have plenty of time to play with Win11 (the 10 day rollback doesn't matter with an image of current system) to find out if you can get on with the Ui and whether your apps and games will play nice with it.

I suggest just doing what @DigitalGoatsuggested.

That being said, if you want to try Windows 11, do whatever you can do to clean install it and DON'T upgrade. I cannot tell you how often we're helping people with old and messy installs of 10 who upgraded and started having strange issues. Clean installs are far preferred.

I've been running its on 3 machines daily for 9 months, over a year on one of them. They're all perfectly fine.

You might be able to get it running at different settings, but it gets pretty complicated. I just finished memory overclocking on Ryzen and it took me almost a whole week. The best advice I could give if you're going to go that route is to download Thaiphoon Burner to find out what die type your memory is (Samsung B-Die, Micron E-Die, etc.). Then download DRAM Calculator, punch in your memory information, and then make the changes to the settings it churns out for you. That was the most helpful for me. I had a 3866mhz 18-19-19-39 kit that I down clocked to 3733mhz 15-16-14-28. I probably wouldn't have been able to get a stable clock going without those two programs. You have your speed and main timings which are pretty easy for the most part. You have to match your memory speed with your infinity fabric. Since it's "double data rate" memory you'd divide the memory speed by 2, which in my case, the infinity fabric ended up being 1867mhz to match the ram. Then you have to worry about sub-timings which is where it really gets difficult. That's where DRAM Calculator really shines. And don't forget about voltages and other power regulation settings.

If you're just looking to quickly set XMP settings, it would probably be easier to return that kit and just buy a new one on the QVL list. Otherwise, you're going to have to go down the rabbit hole that is memory overclocking. Although maybe in your case you could just reduce the memory speed or increase the DRAM voltage if you don't want to worry about timings too much.

Here's a good post about memory overclocking:

It matters because a lot of PC games are just ports from console games. If you have similar hardware to what the consoles are going to be built on, then they'll likely run better. Now, I haven't heard anything about the consoles using the 3700X specifically, but you may still see better performance and any AMD CPU in future games just because the CPU architecture is similar.Again though, that's speculation and remains to be seen.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people are suggesting cheap ass motherboards for a top tier CPU. Personally, if I had the money to drop on a 3950X, I'd probably grab either a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master or Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero. For RAM, I'd definitely be at least looking for a 3600mhz CL14 kit. Ideally (and this is what I did for my 3700X), I'd get a 3866mhz kit with the lowest timings possible, under-clock it to either 3800mhz or 3733mhz, and then tighten up the timings and much as I could.

Yeah, definitely just go for whatever is cheaper if they're the same specs, unless you're going to be overclocking. If you are overclocking the ram, then you're going to want to check what die type the memory on each stick is. That can be easier said than done, but the best way to find out, that I've noticed, is to check your motherboard's qvl. They'll usually list what manufacturer made the memory dies for any of the approved kits they have on there. Other than that though, I'm not sure how you check something like that other than buying it first and then checking with Thaiphoon Burner.

I have to ask... Why an FX-8350? I avoided these chips like the plague when they came out nearly 10 years ago, and I'm sure they've only gotten worse with age? If you're looking for something cheap, why not go with Ryzen? Zen and Zen+ are a bargain right now and will perform orders of magnitude better than bulldozer.

Yeah, I guess that's true. You're probably going to need a bigger VRM for the 12 and 16 core parts. I forgot about the extra features that come with the chipset as well. I guess we're just going to have to wait for B550 to see what that looks like.

I think I'm just going to go with the SG10. I haven't found anything I like more. I was kind of hoping that case design would have improved in 5 years though. Just going to post this in an attempt to embarrass Linus though.

There was a reddit post I found where someone was able to do it, but they had to use a specific radiator. I'll probably buy the case first so I can make some measurements of my own before deciding on a radiator. If it doesn't work, I can always just grab a 280mm.

OK, I think I'm sold on the Define Mini C. It has better overall airflow, I really like that there's a tempered glass version, it's smaller than the Phanteks equivalent, and I'm fairly confident I can jam a 360mm radiator in the front with a little elbow grease, assuming I ever want to run dual graphics cards. It seems to be a very well thought out case, and it's probably about damn time I went with Fractal. My previous builds have all been Cooler Master and NZXT.
