Trik'Stari got a reaction from starsmine in Don’t Put Your Work Email on Your Personal Phone
I've no problem with email on my phone. My problem comes when you want to install something on my device.

Also I don't work outside normal hours without getting paid, but then again I'm hourly. It's definitely one thing I would specify when taking a salary position that I either get overtime or will not work outside normal working hours.

You can call me childish or naive if you want, but you're wrong. I've seen firsthand how companies go way overboard with demanding salary employees work extra hours without pay, to a ridiculous extent.

As for things like parking/tolls? I'd expect to be reimbursed or to pay with the companies money. That's how my current company operates. If I have to spend my own money to get a project done, the company reimburses me on top of what I already make.

Trik'Stari got a reaction from Blqckqut in Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
So here's a bit of an insane idea @LinusTech and @Slick (tagging you both to increase the chance that one of you sees it).

A collab video with Alec Steele. I don't know what, but have him forge something computer related.

My first thought is, get your hands on a Caselabs case and have him hand forge some outer panels for it to give it a unique look, then do a cool build in it, then maybe auction it off for charity or something?

I actually have a very specific idea for the panels. Specifically for an SMA8 Magnum case. Basically have him do the same thing that he did for his 2nd Chefs Knife, but for a computer case.
    Timestamped to the finished product.

Basically that sort of arrow pattern, running up the front side of the case. The panels themselves would be shaped in a sort of "streamliner" shape, similar to the old streamliner camper trailers. With the pattern running up the front like so

    \/
    \/
    \/

    etc.

Or hell, you could simply get him to make a damascus pattern front panel for some of the stuff in the server room or in the server rack style builds Linus had in his home.

The overall point, is hand forged case or case panels. It would be epic. Plus you could challenge your camera operators with shooting amazingly epic B-roll of the items being made.

Dare I suggest something as insane as putting a nearly molten hot piece of metal in Linus's hands, and having him feed it into a power hammer?

If you get the chance Linus, take it. There's few things in this world that are as immediately satisfying as hammering extremely hot metals. Something about it that is uniquely primal and visceral. Also, it's INSANELY GOOD for relieving stress. Just make sure to wear a hat or something under your safety hood for the inevitable and enjoyable shower of sparks.

Dunno. Maybe you could host a LAN party and use it as the hosting server for something like quake, CS:GO, Battlefield 3/4/H,

    Something.

I once witnessed an IT department for a very well paid law firm attempting to do data transfers to newly deployed laptops, using a residential grade router/switch.

We ended up having to stay until 4 am at one point because one of the lawyers ignored the IT departments very clear policy that personal music was not to be kept on the laptops. That person had something like 80 gigs worth. Eventually the sysadmin figured it out and deleted all of that persons music.

It was the most gloriously ruthless application of IT policy I have ever seen. He did not hesitate, didn't call anyone, just deleted it without a second thought. Then we all went home for the night.

Remember, communists care about what people think, more than what they do. Actually I don't mind people that are obviously using bicycles for transportation. I mind the jerk-offs who think they're in the Tour De France.

If they want exercise they can go to a park, or a gym, or go ****ing swimming or something, stop cluttering up my roads. Hell, get a stationary bike (I reject any argument that it's not the same, because it's better, because you aren't outdoors with bugs heat, and cars/trucks that can flatten you.)

As for that particular road, it's fine in a car, truck, box truck, dump truck, etc. (all of which make regular use of that road). It absolutely is not appropriate for bicycles.

And I don't live in the inner city so I don't really care what they do there. Just stop the damned cyclists from coming out to rural areas and causing traffic jams because they don't have the goddamn common courtesy to pull over and let traffic pass. They make themselves a road hazard by being there unnecessarily, and by going significantly slower than traffic. In a car that's usually considered "obstructing traffic".

I don't care if they get their own bike paths. Although I'd argue "that's called a sidewalk". Which, where I live, there are many, that see VERY little foot traffic and are well maintained. Yet cyclists aren't allowed to use them for some reason so ridiculous that only a government bureaucrat could potentially understand it. If I had to guess, it's because they had a cyclist run over their foot as a child and have harbored a grudge against them ever since, and thus want to make everyone else suffer these lollygagging fools.

The depths to which I loathe cyclists are Dr. Seuss levels. I do not hesitate to blow my horn at them, and I will never feel bad about it. I find it amusing when they wipe out all on their own.

I think our disagreement comes down to you being in Europe, where cars aren't as important in daily life. Remember that the state I live in is probably as big, or possibly bigger than your country. I currently drive about a mile to work each day, but that used to be 30 miles. This isn't even taking traffic into account.

I don't understand why one is not able to cycle in parks. That just makes me angrier because I can't think of any place more appropriate for it.

I just fell into it. Started working on mainframe printers and it became quite lucrative. I specialised in big machines and was considered a bit of an expert. It meant I did almost nothing and got paid to sit around only being called in for emergencies, or as a trainer. Did it for about 10 years then things changed so I moved into enterprise IT and mainframe support with a shed load of storage systems. Had a lot of learning but am still in the position of getting paid to be available for emergencies.

Learning printers is not that hard really. Learn the basics of ripping things apart and putting them back together, learn the basic fundamentals of how they work and you can blag your way into a job. It pays well and is in great demand. I did have a good background in electronics but that really is not needed. I studied electronics and physics and made money as a student buying broken TVs and videos from the dump, fixing them and flogging to other students. So working on printers was an easy change. In my years as a trainer I trained chefs, postmen, ex army etc for their new career. Usually it took about three months on the job and they were ready go it alone.
