After spending a long time thinking, I figured out there was only one thing missing from my life....  I was really missing giving facebook hundreds of my own dollars so they can put microphones and cameras in my house. Seriously though, "sure" they put a camera off button but, unless that button physically disconnects the power to the microphone and camera, it might as well not be there. I hope facebook paid good money for this video, it sounded like you were just reading the provided script from facebook. Where's the Linus that takes the whole thing apart to see if the button does any actual switching, or if it's just a gimmic to provide an illusion of safety?

I wouldn't worry about it. You said the card's overclocked so that'll add extra heat. IMHO: unless it's throttling because it hit 95C, don't worry about it.

It's a significantly better looking game, new setting, new movement mechanics, completely different weapons. I'm not sure what you want. If you want some long drawn out simulation go play Arma 3. Battlefield will always be the in between game between COD and Arma as far as game play goes. And that's what the community wants.

Thats the limit for most 1070s so Im not surprised your temps are high. Nothing strange there.

Go watch Jayz2cent videos on thermal throtling he did with gtx 1080, he explains everything. That will answer your 30Mhz decrease.

The GTX 980 ti was very early spotted as an excellent overclocker with proper cooling, some of the aftermarket cards overclocked extremely well when provided with the right care.

The GTX 1080 is overclocked almost to the max already when shipped by manufacturers, the average overclock will max at around 2050 mhz and the lucky ones may get it just beyond 2100 mhz, the highest I personally have seen is my neighbours FE edition with 2110 mhz and he is happy to have won the lottery. Mine reaches 2050 and wont go any further in spite of heat not being an issue.

I am seeing some very fancy solutions coming out for the GTX 1080 which includes awesome water cooling but that has to for the noise right? I have seen a lot of testing and reviews of this card and they all stop at 2000-2100 mhz unless they have been modded heavily (home made), with an unlocked bios there may be an extra 100 mhz in storage. Overall however the 1080 unlike the 980ti just doesn´t show the same improvement when overclocked.

My MSI 1080 gaming X is extremely silent even when under heavy load, it just wont get much better than that and due to the locked bios the extra 6 pin power connector is just there for the kicks, I guess a hacked bios might change things if I am willing to scrap the warranty on the card but with my card stopping already at 2050 I will never take that bet.

Are people cheating themselves when paying absurd amounts for cards which will deliver nothing more than the cards available today offer?

With the 980 ti I could really understand water cooling and overall improved additions to the card, as for 1080 ... it just seems rather pointless.

tldr the card melted in a spectacular fashion

I think this is a good idea. From what I've head from people with a Vive is that the more power you have, the better. So unless you're buying a vive right now, I'd hold off on a 1080 till we see 2 things:
1): Retail stock without nvidia price gouging (there could be stock but nvidia is holding back to generate more hype (no 1080s = more disccusion about 1080 and less about RX 480 and 'exclusivity')
2): A Competitive AMD offering. While the 480 is this supposed great value for money, it isn't a high end card and for those going with VR, it's irrelevant. When we see a fully fledged Vega card, 2 things will happen: 1080 price will drop to compete with Vega & Nvidia launches a 1080 Ti (aka fully unlocked big pascal)

    Bruh......
A 390 IS a 290, it just as higher clocked ram and more of it. They also generally clock a little higher. But you can't get that from a bios.

You would be side grading really.  A overclocked R9-290 is going to be right on par with the RX 480.  So, if you're willing to spend the $250 to get essentially the same performance (in non VR games), then you're doing the right thing.

Because people are stupid and think if they don't sell now it'll be worth nothing. Same thing happened with 7970's before 290s came out. They dipped in price and became stupid cheap. Then after launch prices came back up. Mind you all that happened before the mining craze.

That being said, if you want to sell your 209 for 100 pounds, do it. Or buy another for 100 pounds and have more GPU power.
