That looks very much like something sprayed on your case.

Spilt soda on the carpet then when you run the vacuum over that bit...?
Air freshener usually sprays into the air and evapourates but sometimes it lands on surfaces as a fine set of droplets ?

soup got a reaction from DHelios in Help!! Can i play Games without Onboard Graphics/Graphics Card
    Onboard graphics ≠  graphics card(GPU)

On board graphics can be thought of as, part of the CPU is providing the picture (if you can see Facebook the system must be generating some kind of picture so I suggest you do have Onboard graphics [Onboard as 'in the system' not Onboard as 'on the MoBo' just before some pedant says that isn't the definition of onboard]).  Obviouslly if a seperate GPU is providing the pictures (and doing some of the work) the system can play  higher spec games at more details, or higher frame rates or even at all.   Onboard graphics are perfectly adequate for 'ffice tasks' and 'teddy bear games' but for gaming you really should have a seperate graphics card(GPU).

Sort of (to my mind anyway) is  50% depreceation as soon as you open the box, which goes down to a third even if they look brand new on someone else buying them.

The main takeaway is that there are very few people who will pay for second(third) hand server grade proccesors IMHO.

Bung them on eBay with a minimum reservation of 150 + fees+whatever incidentals .
And hope there is some sort of bidding war and you get a lot more.

soup got a reaction from Xiauj in Is it possible to "Move my PC" into a new case?
If the case your system is in is a standard one (ie not propreity) there is no problem doing this

Treat it as a chance to clean ALL the items thoroughly, and just treat the whole thing as building a new machine without having to take things out of boxes (and dispose of the rubbish ).

soup got a reaction from WkdPaul in How do people learn all this stuff?
Yup, that was sort of what I was getting at, you can't say A will always bottleneck B it all depends .  The idea is to choose components such that  everything performs to roughly[1]  the same level in whatever use caseyou are going for (Game X, game Y or WHY) .

[1] To my mind 100% CPU use being at 90% of GPU and 90% of RAM is not bottlenecking but 100% of CPU use at 50%GPU and 50% RAM is.

soup got a reaction from fueg in New MSI Mobo - onboard graphics occasionally stop working, advice needed...
AIUI the motherboard has all the connections etc for on-board graphics but it is the CPU that does all the work for on-board graphics .

There are a few special cases where a graphics chip is enbedded in the MoBo but I think it would be safe to assume that your CPU is doing the actual work .

Or even better use a screenshot of their desktop as their wallpaper and untick "show desktop icons".  They will spend ages clicking on the images of the desktop icons wondering why nothing happens.  For added evilness pretend ignorance when they ask you to "fix it" and let them pay a small fortune to a computer fixing company to fix this.
This does require unwatched access to their computer but no doubt this could be arranged.

soup got a reaction from ChrisCross in Asus Strix 1080 GTX TO have Modular Shrouds
Yeah but I read your post as meaning if you go this 3d printer way then your ASUS warranty will still be intact. But it states in the OP that ASUS will NOT be held responsible if you manage to do any damage to your card.  Knowing ASUS if your input voltage circuitry(no idea if this actualy exists)goes 'kersplooie' ASUS will say it was when you modded the shroud so they are not responsible .
Either way; dedicated modder or 3d shroud your warranty is toast

soup got a reaction from neemasa in (Router Recommendation) also What is the deal with ADSL Router vs Non-ADSL Routers?
RJ11 is usually the type of termination on a telephone line, RJ45 is bigger and terminates CAT 5.
MODEM (ADSL) connects via RJ11 to a telephone wire., MODEM (non ADSL) connects to a cable, looks a bit like TV coax with an F connector.
After this ADSL or non-ADSL doesn't really matter .

From this modem runs a piece of cable terminated in RJ45 this plugs in to the WAN port in your Router.(sometimes Routers and MODEMS can be combined into one unit).
Cables run from the LAN ports of this Router to various PCs/Laptops etc it may also pump out a wireless signal to various phones/tablets etc

I run an ISP supplied hub(router and MODEM in one)however in its control panel you can set the "hub" as a MODEM only and use your own router. I have found no need, as yet, to do this so just use the supplied equipment.  Like all things there are pros and cons with either route

RJ11 is a smaller looking version of RJ45 and though of the same family they are not (normally)interchangeble in any way
ADSL and Non-ADSL are in no way compatible.

TY that worked. I do not like not knowing why things don't work but I have chalked that down to "ah well".
Playing with it now; have uninstalled some things that I wont use, some will take a bit of getting used too. , but so far nothing seems to have drastically changed( had classic start installed before so didn't have that boot into start screen nonsense).

soup got a reaction from Hulkbert in How do you get and install your own modem?
Not always. My TV supplier and my ISP are the same 'people' (Virginmedia).  One line comes into the house it is split (actually into three) one for the TV one for the MODEM in the lounge (one for the TV upstairs)

Next time I decorate will have to dismantle all that as is it is in a normally unseen corner (behind the couch)  was brushed around last time .
Just shows how unseen corners get very dingy if unkempt

soup got a reaction from SlackAssassin in Anti*-Anti-Anti-Virus Rant (me complaining about people saying you don't need anti-virus)
What you have to consider is it is "horses for cources". I do not need anti-virus (though I use defender as a 'run full time' and scan now and then with Malwarebytes also scan now and then with Panda as although Malwarebytes is good it doesn't get everything), but  those who give a blanket "an anti-virus is NEVER needed" are not considering others use cases.

Linus does lots of build videos.  If you want more hand holding/explanations at (extreme) length try Carey Holzman.

It has been advanced that a "if the socket fits that's were it goes" level of knowledge is all that's needed.

    Yup.  Principally because.
Remeber not everyone's needs are as high as yours, to someone the fact that it is only high end not ultimate  at half the price is good enough for them.

Especially then, even better if you had screen shots of what exactly you had altered to enable these OCes.
Not just "card will overclock to 1.48GHz " But screenshots of what (afterburner or WHY) settings you used to obtain this

Not at all.  Take your time and enjoy it , you will get an immense sense of satisfaction doing it yourself.

Avoid touching metal bits on your components and don't do anything silly ESD wise and you will be fine.
Lots and lots and... of build guides on YT , virtually all of them state how easy it is (adult LEGO is an oft used phrase).

Carey Holzman (whilst a tad disliked in here) goes into excruciating detail on EVERY aspect of building a PC his videos are well worth a look .  Linus, especially now, not so much in the old days, has what could be considered a "well if it breaks I will use another one" attitude, so maybe only watch his older build guides.

Realistically what difference will that make.  I already have 100(soon to be 150) Mbps on VDSL, the servers will only dish out data  so fast so what difference NOW will FTTP make.
