  1. Nah! Unless you have a multi thousand pound (dollar WHY ) desktop rig you are nothing.
  2. Maplins. http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?text=anti-static+strap&x=0&y=0
  3. Get a new one? Get a whole new band? Bare the end of the wire and wrap it around a bulldog clip? Edit :- Or you could stop being so paranoid about ESD and not wear one, but as others have said 'do whatever you feel comfortable with'
  4. Linus has a couple of videos on this very subject. The "mowing lawns" route was acceptable, whilst selling fruit wasn't.
  5. VLC is a standalone it doesn't use WMP at all
  6. What OS are you running? Windows removed playback of Video DVDs using WMP, (data ones are still fine) in Win 8 and 10, due to having to pay a licensing fee for every system capable of DVD playback. You will need a Video player (VLC is reccomended)
  7. Remove all information you may actually need in the future, format the drive and install one of the (many) distros of Linux. Unlike dual-booting this will mean you can ONLY use the distro so making you learn its intricacies
  8. I know you are not talking about a phone, but it is the same idea Rice is maybe not the best drying agent however it is what most people have lying about. http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/how-to/myth-debunked-uncooked-rice-isnt-best-way-save-your-water-damaged-phone-0154799/
  9. What I use is an air pump meant for inflating air beds/beach toys etc . Looking about for it seems that particular one is no longer sold, all the ones I can see do NOT have a hose . This can be very problematic when trying to get the air stream into tight places. Sure if you looked about you could find one that is suitable. Air pumps like this are about half the price of even cheap compressors mind you there are NO controls on it, you can't adjust the pressure (beyond swapping nozzles), you can't adjust the flow rate, but then all you really need is a flow of air that will blow dust off
  10. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_20?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=scales+digital+0.01gram&sprefix=scales+digital+0.01g%2Caps%2C263&crid=1FMC3GV6FIN06 Basically all these have a precision of 0.01g, no idea how accurate they are. If none of these will do, is there a (erm) 'paraphenalia' shop near you ? They may well have something that will do. Edit :- To cope with higher than this precision you would need proper scientific scales which will indeed, as mentioned above, need a cover to stop air currents/your breath etc altering the reading these can go into the thousands for decent ones obviouslly no good for a school project.
  11. Called it. Consumer version in the offing ? Remember if a service is free YOU are the product. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3094785/windows/yes-windows-10-subscriptions-are-coming-at-least-for-enterprise.html
  12. Yes (-_-)ゞ゛ , 1 CPU 2 Chassis (case) 1+2 =3 (all 4 pin) 3 is what you wanted wasn't it?
  13. Wouldn't fancy using ebay. Would rather put up with ignoring nagging. Had a quick look on Kinguin (£ version) and they didn't seem to have any keys left. You could always go penguin and ignore all this 'license' hoo-hah. ASIDE :- do any distros play games decently, or is it still a WINE job. <-- Bit out of the loop as regards game playing on Linux
  14. Note from the year head? Mum or dad a teacher ? There's bound to be some way you qualify for a free education license. Additional if you are upgrading Win10 can still be free - When you are upgrading state that you use assistive technologies (AFAIK they don't check) but this loophole may well be closed now. After installing Windows 10 use an old Win 7,8.1 key (again they may have closed this loophole). Just ignore the ACTIVATE NOW etc messages. Yes Win10 will still nag you to activate but it doesn't do any of that reduced functionality business (again loophole that may be closed) Personal opinion - As MS want everybody on 10 can't really see them getting around to closing these (Minorally technicalish) workarounds Edit:- This puts into (better) words what I was trying to say http://www.howtogeek.com/272201/all-the-ways-you-can-still-get-windows-10-for-free/
  15. You may get it free then. http://onthehub.com/download/free-software/windows-10-education-for-students/ No idea what Win10 education entails or even if your school qualifies but there is a search tool on that site. Regardless of whether you qualify for Win10 E I would investigate school/education type licenses to see if I qualified in some other way.
  16. Legal grey area is right. The only (TIKOBICBW) fully legal way to get a Win10 'License' is from Microsoft themselves, lots of 'greyish' places are much cheaper though. I would say Kinguin are less shady than some (esp Reddit) group type sites. Take the $1 insurance from Kinguin, a company is much more likely to reimburss you than some private (no matter how dressed up it is) sale, and sleep easy knowing that all should be well and if not you will get your money back. Obligatory link to Paul buying a Win10 'license' from Kinguin
  17. Looks like they are between the case umbilical pins and the USB-3 headers.
  18. Sure it's the DRAM_LED ? Here is a YT video showing what and where the DRAM-LED looks like/is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9azllBzU5PU The orange makes it sound like it's the power light letting you know the MoBo has power to it (even when switched of with the power button the board is still powered) this is just a reminder that the power has to be switched off or unplugged at the wall
  19. Is the LED shining orange or could it perhaps be perceived as red?
  20. I wouldn't worry about that My MoBo also has an LED thats lit all the time.Check your MoBo manual to see what light should be on all the time.
  21. He is supposed to be an alien So troll much funny
