  1. See my edit. Well not really an edit as such, more I had pressed submit when I was only half way through.
  2. NEVER, JAMAIS, NIE, NI, NOOIT, INOOIZ EZ, NENIAM ... hard wire yourself to an earth and a potentialy live (switches could be FUBAR[OK not very likely but possible]) circuit. A lot of people think the risk of all required switches failing closed is so low as to be discounted and allow the plugged in but unpowered PSU provide a path to earth I however think you do not want to earth anything you want everything at the same voltage Remember you do not want to reduce anything to zero volts you want to equalise everything to the same PD.

I am so sad for that other guy...but hey..congr…

Wheneve I see him on the bridge, it infests my mind that he is thinking "I am a serious Shakspearian actor and now I've to talk to the head of the fish people".

What's wrong with our paddy's name?
  5. Maybe a tad more, but certainly seems OK. Dont fret too much on getting the exact shape of the die, it doesn't make that much of a difference (line ,pea, spread out with tape on your finger....). 80° C in prime 95 is not THAT much of a problem, your system in normal usage will should see nothing like the amount of stress Prime 95 applies
  6. Mmm seems I am at fault here, saw 4800 series and thought "ah 4800" I minimized the word " series" in my mind. That pic I provided is of a 4800. Ah well still a complete bargain at $70
  7. Maybe clearing half the crap from between those fins will bring the temps down

How do you know what went on?. Just being nosey.
  9. Yes it does but I have a (semi educated ) guess that that is an aftermarket one. Below is a pic' of the card as supplied .. Have a look, seems diffferent to the one on your rig. Tad confusing as that cooler is made by Zalman Also yours seems to have some sort of box struture at the rear of the card whilst the "stock image" shows discrete componets.
  10. Eh ? The Gigabyte in brackets will be the manufacturer of your card.
  11. Not all graphics cards have a shroud/fan,. Especially those of an older generation. I have a rig upstairs that has a small graphics card that is passively cooled it was the office rig then when I gave it to my son one of his games was so slow it was unplayable so I put this card in that though whilst not at all powerfull did enough to lift his game into playable territory (it is now on its third life as a [very overpowered] radio streamer to fall to sleep too). For $70 as long as it works grab it then worry about what specific model each part is.
  12. I have had FREE upgrades from my ISP, but remarkbly a few months later the prices have to go up due to a rise in inflation or because of a rise in the price of potatos or because some new research has shown the moon isn't made of blue cheese or... any old bollocks to put the price up to cover the cost of a 'free' upgrade. However my ISP is definetly the fastest in the area (150:10 Virginmedia) and we get a bundle involving telly, telephone(landline we really are that old) and internet (it would involve mobile too but I HATE them) so we are unlikely to change
  13. Thing is, there must be some mugs out there who actually respond to these"ads" for them to do it. Same with Nigerian princes who have millions to put in your bank account, Russian girls who want to smother you in kisses {polite version] etc Same with SPAM if 1 in 10,000 reply and they send out a million spams thats still 100 customers they get
  14. Where I am it is actually easier ,can be faster, and is cheaper to get into and out of town using the bus . I live on the outskirts of a medievel town (Edinburgh) parking in it is HORRENDOUS and the roads are actually built (most of them) for horse and cart not cars . The council is actually pretty anti car and actually have a few no car areas . The wider roads have what are termed bus lanes and buses can speed up and down them but cars are banned from them so buses can travel faster than the rest of the traffic .The bus service here is excellent (ten minutes between buses and we are right on the edge/outside depending on your viewpoint of Edinburgh in a village called Balerno) so there really is no point driving into town.
  15. oh yes it does, they have to use more fuel to move your weight(else an empty bus and a full bus would use the same fuel) there is more stress and strain on suspension tyres etc and there is more wear on the seats. None of which they get paid for if you are ticketless
  16. Unless you have existing unused USB 3 ports on your computer case, you would have to mod something to use extra USB3s. Unless you have USB 3 headers on your motherboard you wouldn't even be able to do that. There is no way of coupling say 2X USB2 to get a USB3.. You can get a pci-e expansion board that has a USB3 on it but this would involve more buying. The cables would be attached to the USB3 port on the case, unless you get in to the world of modding

  18. Don't worry it quickly becomes really dry. Barnacules has (in his own words)"Raging ADHD" so at times his stuff can appear really quite manic, but he is very knoledgeable about software. Worked at Microsoft in the testing department as a software engineer for fifteen years. He appears with JayzTwoCents on "TechTalk"; mix Jay's building knowlege and his seriousness(I find his humour forced and not at all natural) with Barn's software knowledge and "oh look a squirell"attitude and the show is perfectly balanced.

  25. Mmm Ontario so your first language should be English.

I would have thought nearly all native English speakers would recognise Shakespear

The full qoute is "the lady doth protest too much, methinks" (it's from Hamlet)

But as you are not a lady, doth is a bit archaic and I had already used methinks I shortened the quote to "protest too much". Here is a wikilink to the quote, were it comes from and how it is meant.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_lady_doth_protest_too_much,_methinks

It has been used as a figure of speech, in various phrasings, to describe someone's overly frequent and vehement attempts to convince others  of   some  matter of which the opposite is true, thereby making themselves appear defensive and insincere

I haven't replied in the TS thread as I don't care about that situation but I did want to reply as to what I meant.
