  1. There are a few OLED monitors. Most of them are in the 50-60" range or ~20" though From what I could tell they're not the best for pc monitors mainly due to burn in and limited sizes/refresh rates Here's a decent list of OLEDs available Could always just use a TV like the LG CX 48"
  2. Vessel: Bananabotomy https://www.vessel.com/videos/LCoY5zfFf https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0
  3. I've had issues with it For some reason it sets everything to 2715x1527 resolution, even after I tell it to do 1920x1080 Some games don't like that
  4. Dear Linus & team I've actually learned a lot about tech from watching your videos over the last 4 years or so and have been thoroughly entertained the whole time. It's gotten to the point where all my friends are asking me computer questions and I can actually answer all of them So thanks for that and also I hate you for that Sincerely, generic tech nerd #265485
  5. he has a couple TB of storage already, and he needs it by September/October I'm very sure he's going to end up buying it in the next few weeks due to 'want it now'
  6. So my friend asked me to give him a list of parts for his first computer that he will use mostly for gaming and school work (nothing too intensive for school, mostly word docs I think) Budget of $700-800 CAD This is what he sent me PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($204.00 @ Canada Computers) Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($133.50 @ Vuugo) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($84.79 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($84.99 @ NCIX) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($149.99 @ NCIX) Case: Fractal Design Core 3000 USB 3.0 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($64.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($77.99 @ Canada Computers) Total: $800.25 These are the changes I've made: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor ($79.99 @ Memory Express) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9B SE2 37.9 CFM CPU Cooler ($56.98 @ Newegg Canada) Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.11 @ DirectCanada) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($84.79 @ DirectCanada) Storage: A-Data Premier Pro SP920 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Canada Computers) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB ACX Video Card ($261.98 @ Amazon Canada) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Blackout ATX Mid Tower Case ($92.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($69.99 @ Amazon Canada) Total: $840.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available I'm looking for any input you fine people may have for me Specifically I'm looking to lower the cost of the CPU cooler (I'll more than likely end up OCing it for him) or if it may be worth it to switch to AMD based PC (I know very little about AMD unfortunately) Also he won't be needing it until September/October so I'm wondering if it might be better to hold off until GTX800 series? (I know that nobody really knows when that will be coming)
  7. A couple things to add: Halo: Nightfall is a show done by Ridley Scott, I think it's separate from the Spielberg dealio Forge is confirmed for Halo 2,3, and 4 custom games are also supported Split screen is included, and they're working on system link Online co-op for all the games (confirmed for 2,3, and 4 but Halo: Anniversary had it afaik so it should be in this as well) I think Halo 2 only has 2 players while 3 and 4 have the normal 2-4 players All the various cool glitches in halo 2 like super jumps and button combos should still work although super jumps may be different due to the changes in resolution There will be six additional 'remade' maps using a current gen engine, the first announced was Ascension from Halo 2 (I think a safe bet for the others would be fan-favourite maps like Lockout, Hang em High, Blood Gulch etc) A PC port is not being worked on but isn't being ruled out (So don't hold your breath)
  8. If you're with a reseller I know that most places will do it for you if you create a support ticket with the new one If you're not this might help
  9. Thanks a lot guys, I mentioned both the 2i2 and the e10 to him and told him to choose which one he thinks he'll need since I have no idea what he'll actually be doing lol
  10. It says they're out of stock with 2-3 weeks wait time, but I'll keep that in mind for myself thanks That would add a lot of downtime to get a proper stable OC that he's not willing to deal with I think this looks good, maybe the one I'll go with? 11. I very much doubt he will be overclocking anything so I figured it wouldn't really be worth it, ssd would add to the cost and not add enough to the system to make it worth it for him, if he really wants it he can buy it later and I went with the mobo mostly because of cost savings if there are any features that z87 adds that would make it worth it I don't really know (I don't know much about the differences in chipsets tbh) the o2 and odac are hard to comeby quickly in canada afaik, unless I've been looking in the wrong places, I don't know what headphones he'll be using. I mostly chose the sound card assuming that he would want to use speakers as well as headphones, time is a big factor since he says he needs ASAP for school (by the end of the week even) most,if not all of the parts on the list he could most likely pick up tomorrow/substitute something that he could grab tomorrow or the day after The E10 could be a good idea, I'm not sure if he'll solely be using headphones though
  12. What would you recommend instead? A good sound card was one of his three only requirements
  13. So my friend just texted me and said his current computer crapped out and is asking me to help him build a new one Now, he needs it for school and says he needs it by next week (I have my doubts as to if that can actually happen but whatever) This is something I just threw together as quick as I could and figured I would come to you lovely folks to help me give him a decent setup PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($227.99 @ NCIX) Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($63.98 @ Newegg Canada) Memory: Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.99 @ NCIX) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($89.79 @ DirectCanada) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($289.99 @ Memory Express) Sound Card: Asus Xonar Essence STX 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card ($193.44 @ DirectCanada) Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($64.88 @ Canada Computers) Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($49.99 @ Canada Computers) Total: $1050.05 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) (Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-11-05 23:01 EST-0500) He's in an audio program so it'll mostly be used for recording/editing audio (he says it needs to be able to handle upwards of 4 virtual instruments) Probably some gaming on the side,he really likes skyrim and the sort (I really want him to get into dota2 lol), but that's not the main priority The only real requirements he gave me were that it needs to be 1k-1.1k CAD preferably under 1k though, a 2TB HDD, and a good sound card He needs this ASAP but he seems to be asleep at the moment so I figure I have some time to bang this out as properly as I can Any suggestions would be appreciated
