dmc595's Achievements

  1. I've flipped the PSU so it's intaking from under the case, and removed the front drive cages. The PSU fan is now also randomly spinning up when the PC is idle. And is still making quite a lot of noise when gaming. I'm less sure it's a thermal issue now or at least one caused by the GPU. The PSU is 750W and the system hardware at idle draws nothing close to that, so I would have thought it should still operate in zero rpm fan mode. Maybe some of the components are wearing out and generating more heat, although I would be surprised if that was the case.
  2. Case is a Coolermaster CM 690 II Case. Bottom and front fan are intakes, rear and top fans are exhausts, there are two intake fans on the side of the case but, they are only set to switch on at high system temps as they are quite noisy. I'm considering flipping the PSU so the intake is on the bottom of the case. My previous GPU was a blower, so it could be thermals related issue. The new card is also quite large in the case so it restricts the airflow a bit.
  3. The PSU fan is non-adjustable and all the other fans have custom fan curves. The CPU is not currently overclocked, the CPU is cooled by an H100 exhausting from the top of the case. The GPU runs at 40 degrees C idle and the CPU does as well. CPU maxes out at 70 and so does the GPU. The PSU is noisy when I stress the GPU, not when the CPU is being stressed. It's definitely coil whine as I can here with all the PC fans stopped. The PSU fan is still noisy even when I crank up the case fans. Edit: The power temperature gets up to 80 degrees C
  4. When playing graphically demanding games on my RX480 STRIX that I purchased a few months ago I get really loud coil whine. Also at the same time the fan on my PSU a Corsair HX750 ramps up to full speed and is very noisy. The HX750 should be totally overkill for my CPU, the i7 3770k and the GPU, so I don't understand why it is being so noisy. Is the coil whine likely to be an issue with the GPU or the PSU, don't want to RMA one and find outs its the other. The PSU is 2 years and 10 months old.
  5. I purchased an ASUS STRIX RX480 a few months ago, and I'm having some issues with it. I bought it during my uni term hence the delay. The GPU does not seem to be properly recognised by my motherboard (ASUS p8z77-v pro), as the VGA_LED on the motherboard is illuminated, and I'm unable to access the motherboard bios via the GPU. When I turn on my PC the first thing that appears is the sign-in screen for windows. To access the bios settings I have to remove the GPU from the PC, and use the iGPU on my motherboard. In trying to sort these issues out I reset the bios back to the default settings removing the slight overclock I had on my cpu (i7 3770k). This didn't sort the issue. When I tried to put the overclock back the PC refused to boot despite working previously. The motherboard bios is the latest version, and the issue occurs in both the pcie 16x slots. The motherboard still works perfectly with my previous GPU a gtx 660ti. Has anyone experienced any issues like this or has ideas for sorting it? I may try and RMA the GPU anyway as when the GPU is heavily loaded it makes an electrical clicking noise that occurs even when the fans are temporarily switched off. These two things probably aren't related though. Not being able to overclock is especially annoying for games I play like cities skylines, where the overclock does seem to improve frame rates.
  6. I was planning to buy this 1080p IPS monitor from LG and a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070. I noticed later that it supported free-sync over HDMI, so I was wondering whether it was worth buying an AMD card instead, like an RX480 or something better? I don't know that much about AMD cards so I was looking for some advice. I assume if the GPU can drive the monitor at above its refresh-rate there is no benefit of free-sync.
  7. I'm planning to upgrade my current setup: GPU: GTX 660ti and Monitor: 23" 60Hz Samsung TV (T23B350EW), with a new monitor and GPU. I am probably going to get a gtx 1060 but I need some help with the monitor. I'm looking for a 1080p IPS/PLS monitor that's 23-27" that is good for gaming. I've found the following so far, but there isn't much between them and I'm looking for some other options. Budget is max £500 (UK). Asus PB238Q 23-inch Widescreen IPS Multimedia Monitor(1920 x 1080, 6ms, VGA, HDMI, DVI, Display Port, USB) ASUS VC239H Monitor, FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Frameless, Flicker Free, Low Light, TUV Certified, 23 inch - Blue
  8. I am planning to upgrade the GPU/Monitor for my current setup: Processor: i7 3770k, RAM: 16 GB, GPU: GTX 660ti PSU: 750W Monitor: 23" 60Hz Samsung TV (T23B350EW) I have a maximum £1,000 (UK), and I was considering purchasing a gtx 1070 and better 1080p non-gsync monitor. I don't particularly want to upgrade to 1440p setup due to scaling issues with watching movies and TV shows which I do quite a lot of. I want the gpu to be able to achieve 60 fps on max settings on games like GTA V and the new BF1 game. Is the gtx 1070 the right gpu for achieving this or is it overkill for 1080p?
  9. I would like the kova I prefer the design and the sensor is nicer. I need one as I am still using a cheap generic mouse
  10. I've tried disabling startup items and non-microsoft services with msconfig, but I still get the glitch appearing. It only occurs only on my user and not others on the PC. And only for the aero desktop theme and not the basic or classic ones.
  11. It still happens when I do a clean boot. It only occurs for my user account and not the other user accounts on the computer which makes me think the account could be corrupted
  12. Yeah it happens everytime I log on. Restarting explorer doesn't help. Changing the number of icons in the notification area by enabling showing all icons just moves the problem to wherever the end of the notification area is
  13. I have a weird taskbar glitch on my pc where either the taskbar is mis-colored and/or displays ghost icons from the notification area (screenshots below). This occurs only when using the aero desktop theme and not the basic or classic themes. The glitch only appears in my user account and not in the test account I made. So basically any ideas on fixing this short of making a new user account and transferring everything. PC is Windows 7 Pro
