Butterhörnchen reacted to Ashley MLP Fangirl in Apple fined for slugging phones
I had a 3GS and when that got old the random shutdowns drove me absolutely insane.

I'm very glad apple chooses this route rather than letting the phone shutdown. the fact they can get fined for this amazes me. besides it's a feature you can disable if you want a terrible experience.

Butterhörnchen reacted to RedRound2 in Apple Watch Series 5 Display: Inner Workings that made Always on Display a possibility + iPhone 11 Pro Display
Then your opinions don't carry any value for you start fucking generalizing, without any substantial proof or evidence of the so.
They didn't market jack shit about the back glass. Get your facts straight before you indulge into a topic. Everybody's, including mine concern was how the matte glass back was going to hold up with scratches. Yes, it will break if you drop it of at 8ft to brick wall, but that o my applies to 10 percent users while minor abrasions caused by other material will happen to 100 percent of all unprotected phones no matter how careful you are.

The fact that they made it in a way that doesn't easily scratch at all, giving it a more metal look and durability in the scratch department is something to give credit for.

And no, 100 dollars is not going make break through in material science for you to justify pixel's crappy matte finish.
So you justify pixel, but not iPhones then. All high end flagships from tier A phone manufacturers cost about a 1000 dollars. This year though, it was Apple who actually surprised everyone and released a near flagship iPhone minus like two features for 699.
No, I never fucking said that. Apple watch was way ahead of the competition since series 3 and series 4 widened the gap a lot. Series 5 is a refinement and they brought in a feature that a significant amount of people always wanted. And they did it in a way without sacrificing too much battery life. That's the innovation there. You guys really can't stand it when Apple does something can you? Makes your blood boil?
By touch if, I meant biometric on phones smartass. Touch ID was the first entree of biometrics on phones and every phone out there today has one or the other form of biometric, because of Apple. At the time, people were skeptical and called it a gimmick
A phone would do what in an emergency? Is it going to detect when you fall? Is it going to detect when your heart rate is irregular? What the fuck are you even talking about? And nobody, who buys an Apple watch buys it for just looking at the time. They want those features and extra capability it offers.

You're sounding more and more like a religious Apple hater as I keep progressing through your string of Apple hate blood boil comments.
So? Design is subjective. I don't mind the square look and so does a lot of people. Square for factor is so much better for a smartwatch UI and circular is inconsistent. It's Apples choice and if you want circular, go ahead get a galaxy watch. For others, we care more about what the smartwatch is capable of, and again as I said, it comes with premium materials and bands that makes it look classy and elegant, enough for many people that's it's the most common wearable available in the market.
NOBODY, said that Apple watches AoD is industry first. are you really tech illiterate to not understand how an underlying technology can change but can have the same output, but with better performance or efficiency. An analogy to your comparison would be Tesla isn't anything great because commercial high performance cars came over a 100 years ago.
Dumb memes that scream a clear lack of knowledge and understanding is something I do find pretty offending. Would meme about racism be funny? No. Similarly, these kind of posts makes me realise how dumb and ill informed people. It's just a technology and a company and it ultimately makes no difference, but it's easy to extrapolate that thinking into places where it does matter.

Well the display is said to be cinema grade monitor. Apple isn't going to make wild claims like they did if it wasn't even close to a performance grade monitor that costs about 10000 dollars. But don't believe me, I've followed Apple enough over the years to know that there might be something to be true. But let's both wait for Linus's review to find out who wins in this one.
Fast charging was there from iPhone 7, I believe. They didn't include it, and it's true. That's maybe one of the two flaws I can find with a 700 dollar phone though. And it excels in pretty much everything else, especially for the price point.

You seriously have some reading comprehension issue, don't you. Red is targetted at professionals, hence its expensive. Apple's display and Mac Pro is also targetted at the same professionals. So the analogy does fit there.

Hm. How often do the average apple user actually need to use their 2FA codes though?
From my perspective you only really need it when setting up a new device. Or if you for some reason would be logging in the apple/iCloud websites. But who does that on a regular basis?

The implications are relativity minor. The vast majority of macOS users would never save a password locally. If you have iCloud on (which you should), your passwords will be stored in iCloud and will not be vulnerable to this exploit.

Amusingly, neither of those quoted issues are valid arguments. Though perhaps it was more valid at the time.

Also huge variation in quantities has no impact (statistically) on comparability. It does have impact on confidence interval ranges of the individual drives, but when we make the assumption that individual drive failures are independent and pseudo-random, it also then follows, through simple statistics (central limit theorem), that the drive failures of specific models are independent of each other and generate a normal distribution.

Of course, when Blackblaze makes a chart/table (even if they have others) that fails to include the confidence intervals they themselves calculated... that is less than ideal intellectual behavior.

Butterhörnchen reacted to 79wjd in iPad Pros Shipping Bent from Apple, new feature
Everyone has a different idea of how durable a device should be -- so yes, but it would also make a bend test actually mean something.

    'practically no effort'

Care to define what that actually means? Is that equivalent to the force that the device would exert on itself if you held it from one corner? Is it the force of that the device would exert on itself when flapping the device around from one corner? Is it the force exerted on the device by someone who weights a couple hundred pounds sitting on it?

Bend tests are worthless without some absolute measurement. Saying he could bend it with minimal effort is meaningless if that minimal effort is actually a decent amount of force or if that minimal force was applied in a non-realistic distribution.

Again, as @firelighter487 mentioned, that doesn't excuse the problem. It is just refuting the validity of a bend test as evidence of anything meaningful.

Butterhörnchen reacted to 79wjd in iPad Pros Shipping Bent from Apple, new feature
No, you really can't. Some asshole on the internet bending an iPad means absolutely nothing without some data supporting the amount of force required.

Butterhörnchen reacted to Scheer in Spotify screws over Premium Users and lets Free users use Spotify Connect
I guess I just see things a little differently, I don't quite understand how you can be mad that features you like are now free? If its no longer worth it to you to pay for premium, then don't pay for premium...

Paid tiers don't have to be value adds, the new thing to do (and I'm a huge fan of it) is for the paid tier to simply be the "fast ring", and eventually it trickles down to free and the paid tier gets something else new to themselves. Plex does a great job at this.

Also, from a quick search, the 20% are using more bandwidth as they have a higher bitrate (costs Spotify more money) and don't have to listen to ads (Spotify makes less money), so there is some of the skew in your numbers and I'm sure there is more.
