  1. Hello LTT, I know it's Christmas so I don't expect you to answer this right away but I have a question about my gift I received. I got the Dell Inspiron 15 500 (model i5558-5718SLV), and I'm replacing its slow HDD with a Samsung 850 EVO. I was wondering, when I install vanilla Windows are there touchscreen drivers, Dell drivers, etc that I need to install, or will Windows just recognize the touchscreen and work with my machine? Thanks in advance!
  2. So I have just got a new SSD, and I'd like to install Windows 10 on it. The thing is, I've already upgraded from my personally bought copy of Win8, to Win10 on my current HDD. I want to use the SSD only, and not use the HDD at all anymore since I am completely fresh installing and I have a newer, 1TB HDD that I want to use alongside the SSD. I've heard that Windows is tied to the motherboard, not the install disk so would it be as simple as running the USB boot media and using my win8 product key, or is it more difficult? I've also heard that if you go about it the right way, reinstalling Win8 will let you upgrade to win10 again. Is this correct? I would be willing to upgrade to 10 from 8 again, the one thing that I am unsure about is using my product key when it is already in use by my HDD, even though I won't be using it anymore. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Sorry, this wasn't really clear. I want to literally take out my current hard drive from the computer and replace it with the SSD, so the HDD will not be formatted. Is this the correct way to go about fresh installing?
  3. The most generic connections are 24 pin (giant one) from PSU to mobo, ATX (4x4 pin, for cpu) from PSU to mobo, 6 pin (for GPU) from PSU to GPU, SATA Power from PSU to storage, SATA from mobo to storage, molex (fans, other addon/12v stuff) from PSU to various devices, and USB headers. I may have missed one or two, however. Consult your mobo manual for the front panel pins and other additional stuff, plus to deduce where the connectors even are. Just watch a tutorial on how to build a PC on YouTube, they should cover all the connectors.
  4. The motherboard? No. All my components are new.
  5. So recently I wanted to boot off a flash drive to see if it worked, but I forgot the password to my bios and it asks for it when I hit f12 for the boot device menu. No big deal, I'll just clear the CMOS, right? Wrong. Multiple times now I have turned off the PC and PSU, held a screwdriver to the CLR_CMOS pins for 30 sec, and booted the PC. It still needs a password. I have also taken the 24 pin connector out, turned off the PC and PSU, and taken the battery out, letting it sit for 30 min. Then I put it back in, boot up, and it still asks for a password. I've also tried some of the "backdoor" BIOS passwords and none of them work. The wierd thing is, however, the PC doesn't boot up normally anymore. There is no splash screen, and it doesn't boot into Windows. It just goes straight to asking for a password. My motherboard is Gigabye G2A88XM-HD3 (check my signature, I might have gotten that wrong. It's correct in my sig). Any suggestions? Thanks! EDIT: I should mention that I have done absolutely no overclocking whatsoever, or any changes for that matter. No BIOS/hardware changes have been made since my last successful boot and now.
  6. That was my first guess, as it was probably corrupted. I'm going to try Zorin later today, though,
  7. How so? If I knew how to fix the drive I can get Zorin up and running to do so.
  8. Hello LTT, I have a bit of a dilemma for you. A while back I was flashing Chromium OS onto a flash drive but (stupidly) managed to unplug the drive before it was done. Thus, the drive is corrupted. I can access and view the drive, however it is empty. The drive is only recognized as being 200MB when it is actually 16GB, and most of all it is now write-protected even though I did nothing to make it appear that way. There is no physical write-protection switch and no formatting I have tried (Disk Util, Windows formatting, SDFormatter, direct UNIX Terminal erasing) is able to bypass the write protection. I have tried to edit the StorageDevicePolicies/WriteProtect registry key but I can't find it. Is there any way I can bypass this protection so I can format it and hopefully be able to use it? Right now I think I've bricked it but if anyone has suggestions I'll definitely try them. Thanks!
  9. I would say S6/edge as it is the perfect size and exemplary build quality, but the battery life was nerfed so hard. I have hardly any apps and no games on my s6 and I still barely make it through the day. If you're anywhere near a power user stay far away from it. EDIT: I can't speak for the S6 active but it seems like a good phone, maybe look into that.
  10. Python's a perfect language for beginners but you can't use it with Unity and definitely not applications.

Steam In Home Streaming supports Xbox One contr…

Why would MS stop making 360 dongles? That's kind of stupid on their part.
  12. Depends on a few things. Do you have a certain color preference? What size do they need to be? Any other prerequisites?
  13. This is certainly not as helpful as any other answers, but I just wanted to say that your rig looks absolutely amazing imo. Perhaps you are just getting bored of it as a lot of people do. Maybe change the layout, lighting or something else? Either way I prefer the H440 over the luxe for the sharper edges and more geometric shape but I see no reason to downgrade to one.
  14. It's been a long time. How have you been? You know, since you murdered me.
  15. Are you kidding me? This is the best site ever! It's so hilarious for people who know it's a joke and hilarious for those people to watch other people who think it's legit actually try to use it.
  16. Thanks for the reply! Just wondering, what's your rationale for the 380 over the 960? Pure performance/compatibility/something else?
  17. I wouldn't know about GPU's but Hackintoshes generally ONLY run on Intel CPU systems. Maybe that's what you're thinking about.
  18. Hello LTT, So my mom uses this absolutely terrible old Mac Pro to do her professional photography, which involves Photoshop and a ton of huge files and hard drives. She's been using these years-old 5400RPM HDDs that are bound to fail any second to store her photographs, and I keep telling her she's overdue for a new computer. Well, she finally accepted that fact as her OS drive (luckily not any mass storage drives) recently failed. I've got her set up with an old HDD I had lying around now but she needs something new. I will be building a Hackintosh for her with a budget of about $1,000. There's no need for peripherals, monitors or anything of that sort. I'm generally great at building machines but mostly hopeless at making part lists, so any help is appreciated! The machine will be used primarily for Photoshop (CC and CS6), storing large files, and web browsing. Basically just a well-rounded computer that excels specifically at photo editing. Here's the part list I have so far, if you have suggestions I will take them gladly. Please note that so far I only have the SSD as a boot drive and storage for Chrome, Photoshop, and other important applications, and a 1TB HDD for mass storage. More storage will undoubtedly be added on later and does not factor into the cost of the build as of now. Thanks!
  19. Not really some amazing "tech news", but this is pretty cool. In today's issue of the New York Times, home delivery subscribers will find not a newspaper, but a cardboard box that folds into their own Google Cardboard 2.0 VR headset. It also comes with instructions detailing how to download the NYT VR app, where you can view New York Times stories in VR. I got one this morning, and I have to say that it is very cool. The quality is very good imo and it works as well as expected, with some unavoidable slight blurriness. It does not have the cardboard piece in the middle separating each eye but it works fine without it. The touch capacative button works flawlessly. Also, you do not have to fold it yourself. It comes pretty much finished right out of the box and all you have to do is put the blinder-things on the sides of the lenses and put your phone in. The NYT VR app works well but you will have to download all the stories to local storage, which is to be expected. It is fairly low resolution, however, even on my 1440p screen, but I will say that the UI is very sleek. Anyways, that's pretty much it. Check if you got one today, it's like Christmas morning if you did!
