  1. https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-to-acquire-arm-for-40-billion-creating-worlds-premier-computing-company-for-the-age-of-ai/ Nvidia has already made their move. Anyone who wants to license this stuff will go through Nvidia and feed Nvidia. <content removed by forum staff>
  2. Anyone who's conscious of what they're doing and has any sense of integrity or morality would think the same.
  3. If you can't go wired, consider powerline networking adapters. <content removed by forum staff>
  4. Worth a try: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan For full hard drive back-ups (and less-than-ideal interface) you could look into CloneZilla . I save all important files manually to Blu-rays these days. I only occasionally do full-hard drive back-ups (usually of a 'new' drive in a 'basic' state). I am prepared to re-install the OS if something goes wrong with the drive, but irreplaceable data is backed-up (or at least should be). Frequently-edited data is saved on USB sticks, SD cards, etc. for the short-term. Long-term it's all optical. I wish I could tell you the stories of corrupted data on SD/USB sticks and hard drives, but the flashbacks would not be pleasant.
  5. I still occasionally eat products with butter in them, but definitely avoid it whenever I can. I just have to look at my sister or my brother-in-law (both large people) to be put-off. Fried foods are a rarity here too.
  6. Depends entirely on what you do with it and user demands.I would argue that what matters most to most people is simply disabling updates to keep the thing responsive well into the future (after trimming the fat).
  7. My guess is end of March for GPUs. I have no inside knowledge, so your guess might be as good as mine. The instincts say end of March. If I am right, I want some points to be tallied somewhere. Incidentally there ought to be a fun scalper game if there isn't one already.
  8. All of them siphon user data. I don't like any of them but use Firefox and Vivaldi.
  9. Each to their own! I have bought hundreds of items (perhaps thousands) from both with a very small minority being refund-worthy and most being absolute bargains that I wouldn't dream of buying locally (if I could find them to begin with). CPU coolers in particular are over-marketed rip-offs locally.
  10. AliExpress is very similar to ebay. Many sellers selling many things. Some good deals, and some stuff you can't get as cheaply on ebay (or locally). This just happened to be one of the crappy ones. If I can find it cheaper on AiExpress (cheaper than ebay or local stores), I use them. I would sooner buy on AliExpress than pay for many components at the local rip-off PC stores. A particular favourite are the SNOWMAN cpu coolers (and many other brands from unknown Chinese manufacturers who happen to make great stuff).
  11. Only if the PC case requests new footwear.
  12. That's what came to mind here...that announcement years ago. I bet it never really dies. We will see a limb emerge from the tombstone, ready to live another day.
  13. So I checked him out. He has over a million subscribers. I looked at this video, so I can be disappointed with the state of e-ink in 2020 2021 once more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlnzrxaZViU I find him long-winded, like a lot of YouTubers. I can say what he said in no more than 3 minutes. Good production values though. I honestly respect the work it takes to make something like this (I could never have the patience to set up all these shots, write that script, etc.). Good luck to him.
  14. * the masses will continue to be spied-on by Intel, AMD, Apple, Google, Microsoft and countless third-parties who are using their hardware and software * the masses will continue to buy disposable batteries in droves despite the existence of low-self-discharge rechargeables like eneloop. Manufacturers will continue to bundle disposables with many devices too. * Sales of UPSs will increase among The Sheeple due to some planned 'essential infrastructure' outages primed to herd The Sheeple into their new realities. * Cash will continue to die. Or rather, private transactions will continue to die in favour of 'everything tracked & taxed' electronically * device manufacturers will continue making devices (phones, laptops, etc) with hard-to-remove batteries (and other Designed-For-Disposal methods) in service of the Landfill Economy * automatic updates will continue to bloat, making older hardware slow while installing the latest State Mafia exploits on devices. In doing so, both the Surveillance Economy and Landfill Economy will continue being served * millions of LED lights will need replacement as we see the Landfill Economy continue to shine * billions of lithium-ion batteries will need to be replaced but instead the whole device will be tossed out instead because it's easier / cheaper / too expensive to fix or replace * millions of devices will continue to be discarded due to cracked screens * AMD/Intel/Nvidia fanboys will continue to support their teams as these companies make incremental speed bumps on the road to nowhere. Hah!
  15. Write with LibreOffice. Export to PDF. Email PDF. As mentioned above, PDF is pretty universal.
