  1. I found the issue, and yes, it is Tailscale... Without it I can get a 3GB file on the NAS in about 25 seconds which is reasonable (over WiFi). So.. any other suggestion how can I access the NAS from offsite?
  2. Thanks @An0maly_76, it is also possible, I wasn't aware of the 2nd gen not being compatible with 1600 RAMs, will look into that.
  3. No I don't need it when I am on that network. I might just try to connect my laptop directly to the NAS and see what happens. The NAS is running on TrueNAS rn, all network related settings are rock solid, that shouldn't be an issue.
  4. Guys thanks a lot for the comments, see my answers below: @BismutIt's 600-800Mbps in both directions, most of the times it caps out at around 770Mbps, which i think is fine for a 1Gbps connection. @Budget DIY Modem, router and switch are all set up by me ( I used to work at a telco company in the network department, it's a piece of cake), I also tried several software (trueNAS seems to be the best -- controversially). @Tomberry nope, that's why I suspect the NAS itself to be at fault, but you never know with a remote connection. This would be an easy explanation, but unfortunately when I tried it over LAN, I ran into the s ame issue. @manikyath thanks for the advise, I'll look into it. @jaslion It's around 600-800Mbps IRL, which is sufficient, yet the upload shouldn't be 2Mbps imo. Can you guide me where I can find that function in Tailscale?
  5. Hi guys, I have a NAS for my photography business, I find it cheaper and easier to store my stuff local rather than in the cloud. BUT! I oftentimes need remote access which I luckily have (Tailscale VPN). My issue, however, is that the up-and download is terribly slow from remote. I have two internet connections: one in my studio (the NAS is located there) with 1Gbps and another at home at 1Gbps, yet I find that the up-dowload is around 2Mbps overall. This makes life haaaard. I am not sure if the problem is with the internet/Tailscale/NAS, but I suspect that I do not have enough RAM. Also the NAS is pretty old. NAS spec: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Do I need more RAM, a beefier CPU, both or neither and that's as good as it gets for me? Thanks in advance!
  6. I had it calibrated at the shop where I bought it, they are specialised in displays and also asked for my laptop to have the settings aligned. So I assume it is correctly calibrated.
  7. Hi there, I am looking for a new monitor for my profesisonal work. Currently I am using a 27" LG HDR 4K monitor but it is slightly off-colour even after multiple calibrations. I would also like to get an LED display for more accurate colour. Problem is, there are sooo many options I'm kinda lost what actually suits me best. The budget is around 700EUR, must be available in Europe, Thunderbolt is a nice touch but not necessary, HDMI 2.1 same story. I am not asking for exact matches, I just need some guidance of what exactly it is I need to be careful about. Thanks in advance! Bearded
  8. Thanks for the recommendation. Sadly the CalDigit costs 350 EUR here, for some reason... The Anker one seems promising, I'll give it a try
  9. Hi there, you beautiful tech-minds! I am in search of the best ever (for my use case, will be described later) docking station for my Macbook. I am a photographer and I carry my laptop to my studio from home, hence the drift away from PC. I already have a dongle for the go, I need a sturdier, more reliable and more feature packed solution for home. At home I find myself plugging and unplugging all the time on my teeny-tiny USB-C dongle, and I find it frustrating to say the least. I want something more stationary, perhaps something mountable on the wall for more desk space. What I really need are following: - HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 - a bunch of USB-As, preferably 3.0 - USB-C x2 -power delivery (at least 65W) - networking is a nice bonus, but not necessary - stationary, should stand on it's own or mountable - must be available in the EU My budget is around 250 USD. Am I chasing the dream? Help me please! Thanks a lot! Bearded
  10. Yes, that is not the best solution for me, I have my monitor for editing photos already set up and calibrated so that stays. Price range is "reasonable". I know, it is not much to work with. I'd like to have a stable, hot-plugabble docking which is working flawlessly. If it costs 200EUR then it costs 200EUR, but at the same time it must work like it's worth 200EUR.
  11. Hi all, I bought a pretty standard little dongle for my MacBook, which is "fine", but sometimes it goes dark when plugging or unplugging something in or out of it. It really drives me crazy sometimes as I pretty much just hop to my table for 10-15 minutes, then take off like a rocket etc. I am looking for a bit heftier version of - let's say - a docking station for Mac. Any recoms? Thanks!
  12. Hey guys I need some advice to choose my go-to latop/notebook for web development. Critical factors: - must be lightweight - decent battery life (let's say 10-12hrs+) - screen size: 13" - 15" (optimal would be 14") Nice-to-have aspects: - USB 3.0 - SSD - backlit keyboard The point is to have a system on the go with me in case I need to fix/edit something, or just want to lay on the couch while coding. No fancy stuff needed, I'm down to new as well as to used offers/suggestions. This will not be used to anything else, perhaps the usual stuff: YouTube (to watch Linus ofc), social media, office work (Excel, Word, maybe PPT) Budget is around 400 USD. Thanks four the help!
