When reading 4 or 5 posts and they all have an erratic gif it's just too distracting. I'm clearly not the only one so it's not just my problem, but this is what gif blocker is for, and I never said the forum needs them gone but having a disable option within our own profile to disable it for our profile wouldn't be bad either. Hardly punishing.

Well you can always put them on your ankle, but then you're tied to a 4 foot radius and they always seem to break one way or another. I think the danger of static is overstated, as long as (like everyone said) you aren't using a vacuum or rubbing your wool socks on the carpet before putting a computer together.

I keep them to resell later, eBay loves when you have original packaging

Currently neither rigs are folding and I've sold both of them. The BigAdv folding requirements were raised and I now neither meet the specifications. Because of the costs to upgrade I have no intention of changing my rigs. Updated 1/26/2014.
 
This is a thread showing off my two 4P Folding Rigs! The first rig (top shelf) makes ~120k PPD at minimum, the second rig (bottom shelf) makes ~90k minimum, combined for ~210k PPD with BigAdv folding. This only happens when Project 8101 comes along. Rig 1 cost me $250 out of pocket, Rig 2 cost me $200. Combined I pay roughly $60 in energy a month, and that's just for these two rigs... As far as noise levels go, it's about as loud as one of those giant 20" fans you find at the store on the lowest setting.
 
Since they're both complete, I won't have a huge amount of pictures of my progress. I didn't feel the need to detail each and every step, but I'll keep a text-log about my experiences for those interested.
 
1st 4P Rig Specs:
Motherboard: Supermicro H8QME-2+ Processors: 4 AMD Opteron 8425 HE @ 2.1GHz (24-cores total) PSU: Seasonic 760w Platinum RAM: 16GB DDR2 HDD: Seagate 500GB (overkill for folding, but it's multi-use. Mounted in my unused Fractal Define R4 cage) Heatsinks: 4 copper heatsinks, included with bundle Fans: 4 80mm Antec with 3 speed options (I usually have them on medium for noise reasons), 200mm Cooler Master fan & 120mm Bitfenix Spectre fan Case: Custom-built, but mostly went naked. I put the shelf together, named it the Plank 2.0 2nd 4P Rig Specs:
Motherboard: Supermicro H8QM3-2+ Processors: 4 AMD 8386 SE processors @ 2.8GHz (16-cores total) PSU: Seasonic 760w Platinum RAM: 24GB DDR2 HDD: 32GB PNY USB Drive Heatsinks: 4 Generic Copper-Aluminum heatsinks Fans: 4 80mm Antec 3-speed (kept on high because these heatsinks are picky), 200mm Cooler Master & 120mm Bitfenix Spectre Case: Custom-built, but mostly went naked. I put the shelf together, named it the Plank 2.0 For both rigs, I use an IBM Model M Keyboard, a $10 Walmart brand mouse, a Dell monitor found at a garage sale, Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, and a Mionix Deskpad. I thought the deskpad was ridiculous when I first saw it, but after the plywood on my shelf made my skin sting, I freaking love it. The motherboards are held off the surface by a bunch of (wait for it) Rubber Erasers. I had fancy rubber standoffs but lost them sometime during the coffee-table-to-shelf transfer, and the erasers are working perfectly.
 
1: Initial testing for Rig 1. The 200mm fans were all I had at the time to cool the heatsinks, and this was before I built the shelf.
 

 
2: Both rigs fully assembled, also initial testing for Rig 2. I put the wooden shelf together with four 2x4 boards, metal rails, and two plywood sheets for each shelf. Measures 24"x24"x46". The purpose of this was to get the coffee table back, allow me to put two rigs in a more compact space, and have room to add another shelf in the unlikely event I want to add a third rig. I may, or may not, organize the cables one day.
 

 
3: The rest are close ups of each rig and different sides of the shelf. I would paint the Plank 2.0, but I don't currently have a garage or any well-enough-ventilated workspace. Both systems are on in the pictures, even though the fans aren't moving because of my camera.

5: My friend suggested this, it's somewhat meaningless but fun to look at. All 24 cores at 100% in Rig 1. Rig 2 takes way too long to load to bother with this, as I'm running it on a USB-drive at USB 1.1 speeds.

As for periphals, I use a Ducky Shine Cherry Black keyboard, Mionix NAOS 3200 mouse, Bose 2.1 speakers, Panasonic RP-HTF600s, ASUS 1080p monitor, Mionix mousepad, Blue Snowball mic, and various other hardware lying at my desk at any given time.

Time for my attention whore post: I'ma leaving. I've gone through some forums before, always joined and left without making a fuss but why not this time? Here are my reasons:
 
Blatant hate toward all things Nintendo. Did all of you forget how to have fun?
 
100% blatant hate toward religion and all things religion (my religion doesn't teach 99% of the evil things I'm told it does)
 
The difficulty of coming across someone who doesn't lean to the left on this forum (some spawn of Reddit, or I'm not a wizard)
 
And my most important one: Arguments turn into eight-paragraph essay-length posts where both people "didn't read the other argument" or "puts words into their mouth" or "creates ad hominem's" when I'm convinced both forgot what any of those statements actually mean and the original argument is lost by the third response.
 
It was fun when I was folding around a year ago, then addicting for the months after that. I learned a lot from the olde Whaler and that was worth the cringes I've seen

There was this person I knew that had been going through a rough time - divorce, lack of money, taking care of 4 kids, extremely difficult ex, that sort of thing. She had two computers: A really old IDE one from the 90s that ran Windows 98, and a garbage Dell laptop (I don't mind Dell laptop's but this one was especially bad). Both ended up failing, and of course, all her pictures/kid's documents were on them without a backup.
 
My mom told her I was into computers so she ended up talking to me, and she wanted to know what would be the best one to buy. Now enter classic story of how I built her one for around $200 after combos/sales/rebates since all she did was browse Facebook and had her kids play flash games. I remember her saying how quiet it was and how much faster it was, and I was worried it would be too slow.
 
As for the actual "cringe"worthiness: she gave both her computers to "technical professionals," who are also relatively well known people in my area. They aren't actually technical at all, they just do an engineering job at the labs on computers that I still think use Windows 98... Anyway, they told her there was no hope for her pictures and documents, and said the computers were dead and the data was gone.
 
They were partly right. The gigantic old desktop wouldn't start and I didn't even try to figure that out, so I just took out the two ginormous IDE hard drives. The laptop had the Dell Blinking Cursor of Death, so that was hopeless, but I also took out the laptop-style-IDE hard drive. I bought an IDE to USB adapter and voila, I got all her pictures and everything of value. I put it on an 8GB flash drive I had and told her about backing her crap so she could avoid this. I think she was happiest for that.
 
What bothers me most was that these so called "professionals" with years in the field (of engineering) knew nothing or so little about computers of today... or yesterday. I just imagined them plugging it in, turning it on, and when nothing happened they gave up. I was at one point somewhat rather maybe possibly attached to one of her older daughters in the past so maybe I'm more predisposed than I should have been, but it just bothers me they so obviously didn't even try.

Origin, Windows XP without the service packs, and anything that uses coaxial cables.

Republican? Don't make me fucking laugh, Michigan is a deeply blue state, the only reason this is possible of because Democrats love affair with unions (who are the ones blocking tesla from the sounds of it). Not to mention that New Jersey and Maryland are blue states as well, with unions. Try finding a less politically charged article, or at least one that's accurate.
 
Not to mention that it was the Democrats in the first place that bailed out GM when they should have let it fail. None of this would be possible under true capitalism because it's anti regulation, the other companies could complain, but otherwise do nothing against tesla, but no, we have to have regulations and unions "to make sure everything is fair and equal" except that it's not, everyone is equal you see, just some are more equal than others.

This already makes no sense. In America under the second amendment it's 100% legal and fine to make your own firearm, you just can't distribute or sell it. People are always putting together their own pistols and rifles, and they have lots of conventions and shows to show it off. It's not talked about very often, and the media seems to ignore that this is allowed.
 
As for Japan, they have problems of their own like supposedly going to be at 50% their current population by 2100. They have more than guns killing them off

It makes no sense because you can't get money from a dead man. It's more profitable to say "here's a cure to cancer, that'll be 1 million dollars" instead of "here's chemo, it might or might not work, that'll be 250,000 dollars."

I've always had aim assist off on any game that's ever had it, I hate that 'sticky' feel your reticule gets when it tries to lock onto a character. I can say that didn't make a dang difference when it came to quickscoping, and every big console quickscoper I've ever met plays with 10 sensitivity on a hyper sensitive controller with aim assist off, kinda like an 80,000 DPI mouse on PC but not.
