  1. So, after more research, I'm leaning towards either the Corsair RMX850 or the Super Flower Leadex III Gold 850W. Thoughts?
  2. Says the user with a water-cooled 3700X and a $300 Strix X570-E board, which a few months ago was only $35 cheaper than the Crosshair VIII Hero. Wow!? Really?! No way!? I'm well aware of the list...I had been hoping for some more personalized feedback and recommendations from folks here on particular PSUs based on their real-world experience, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen (notwithstanding Ankerson's earlier comment), which is quite disappointing.
  3. My thinking exactly. I've gone down the list of X570 motherboards and while I'm tempted by the ASRock X570 Taichi, its $290 price tag puts it too close to Crosshair VII Hero and the Aorus Master to be competitive, same problem with something like the ASUS X570 Strix-E. I'm partial to ASUS given that my current board from them has lasted over 8 years without a single hiccup. Actually, depending on sales, they're between $300 and $350. Pending real-world benchmarks from Zen 3, the 3700X is the best bang for buck CPU out there on Team Red. I primarily use my PC for gaming and while I'm starting to get more into photo editing, the idea of getting a 12 core CPU when games are still barely utilizing 4 cores let alone 8 doesn't make much sense to me. As for cheaper boards, I've long held the view to buy the best you can afford without going overboard. Cheaper boards might get the job done, but they have their inherent limitations given that they're often just cutdown versions of the same boards I'm already considering. Thank you! This is exactly the advice I was looking for! I'm leaning towards 80+ Gold PSUs simply to keep price down as it seems like the advantages of Platinum/Titanium don't make up for the accompanying sharp price increase.
  4. A 3900X/5900X would be total overkill given their price points, lol. My thinking is that I'm not planning on upgrading this rig for at least another 5 years and I'd rather get the best board I can afford right now which will handle Zen 3 CPUs with plenty of room for overclocking if I feel so inclined. I'd add that the price variation around $280 - $350 has become much tighter in recent months, thereby negating the advantages some "cheaper" boards had earlier this year. I've seen the tier list, it has dozens of entries at Tier A, which is helpful for highlighting which PSUs to look at but it doesn't exactly help with comparing how those PSUs stack up against each other, nor accounts for price points, etc.
  5. Hi! I'm in the process of planning out a new rig that I'll get later this year around Black Friday / Cyber Monday. Its specs follow below: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X (unless the Ryzen 5 5600X turns out to be a truly a much, much better buy at that price point) MOBO: ASUS X570 Crosshair VIII Hero (no-WiFi) / Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master (final decision pending price, availability, etc.) GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 SSC (this is my current card, but I'm planning on upgrading to a RTX 3080 later on down the line) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 16GB (2x8GB) Case: Cooler Master TD-500 / Cooler Master H-500 Blank (as Steve from Gamers Nexus likes to call it) As you can see, I still have some final fine tuning to make on the case, MOBO, and CPU decision front, but the one thing I know is that I'll definitely need to replace my ancient SeaSonic 620W 80 Bronze, which is almost a decade old at this point. Given the expected high power draw from the RTX 3080, I have my sights on an 80+ Gold 750W or 850W PSU, but would appreciate some advice on the "best" options because it's been far too long since I built a new rig and I'm feeling swamped with too much info on which brands and models are worth buying. Case in point, I was seriously considering the EVGA Supernova G3, but then read here that its fan is loud and the unit has not insignificant issues. On price, I'd like to keep my PSU budget between $100-$180. Thanks in advance!
