  1. Sounds like it is getting the signal to wake up the monitor but it never gets to the point where the system can display anything. It does not sound like the system is even able to POST. You can have your friend try removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard and then reinstalling it after a minute. This will reset the BIOS to the default settings. This can sometimes help systems that will not POST.
  2. Interesting, are you certain that the computer is actually powering on? I have had computers power on all the fans and LEDs without actually booting into the operating system. Can you even get the computer to POST? I am not entirely clear on whether he ever gets the computer to display anything at all. If he can get into the BIOS, then the issue is most likely an issue with the bootloader or the operating system itself. Perhaps he can try booting to a recovery USB or USB version of Ubuntu?
  3. That does sound odd, but PCs can make noises from components that you might not expect. Are you sure that the sound is not coming from the speakers? If you disconnect the speakers and no longer hear the noise, it is most likely interference from the power supply or other components.
  4. Try running the command again. From your first image I can see that it is a fairly low end router and that may have something to do with it. If you could run the command above again and reply with the results that appear at the end, that would help a lot. The results will look something like this: Ping statistics for 151.101.128.81: Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 32ms, Maximum = 35ms, Average = 33ms
  5. When you say that you tested the integrated graphics, did you remove the GPU from the computer before testing it? Many motherboards will not use the integrated graphics when a dedicated GPU is connected.
  6. Boot times can vary quite a bit for the first few days after a fresh windows install. It could be applying updates during the shutdown or start up processes. The wireless information that I see looks good. Signal strength seems good and ping times are consistent. If your download speeds are still suffering, the next best step to take here would be to restart your wireless router. Although, as I said above, Windows could be downloading updates in the background and that may have an effect on your download speeds in other programs. As far as the benchmark score goes, it looks to be in line with other systems of similar specs.
  7. Happy to help. Ping times look great actually, and there are no dropped packets. Another thing you could check would be signal strength. In a command prompt window, try running this command. netsh wlan show interfaces You can just copy and paste the results here instead of taking a screenshot if it will save you time. Selecting text in command prompt and then right the black area clicking will copy to clipboard.
  8. Can I please see the bottom of that command? It will summarize the entire test. It will look like this: Ping statistics for 151.101.128.81: Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 32ms, Maximum = 35ms, Average = 33ms
  9. Not criticizing your suggestion as you could be correct that it might be dead. Just trying to help OP and his friend get things working quickly. No offense intended @greenhorn ?
  10. Could be a driver issue. Have you installed the latest driver from the manufacturers website? Are there other devices hogging your bandwidth? Maybe the issue could be a router issue. Network issues can be tricky to diagnose without access to useful tools. Try running a ping test to bbc.com. Open the command prompt and type ping -n 100 bbc.com Then post the results here. This could give some insight.
  11. This is a good question OP, although I'm not sure that a dead CMOS battery would prevent a system from booting. It would just reset the BIOS settings to default. Most systems will tell you if the CMOS battery is missing. OP, what does the computer do when you push the power button? Any information can help.
  12. In that case, I would say that the benchmark you used is just misrepresenting your actual performance. Those numbers seem in line with what I would expect.
  13. I'd recommend the torrent download for that benchmark. You will get faster download speeds than their servers. Click the green arrow to the right of the download button and then fast torrent download.
  14. How is your performance in games? Are you finding that you are getting poor performance in real world activities? Benchmarks are not always the most accurate representation of performance. Some of them are iffy as someone said above.
  15. Can you please post a few images of the task manager performance tabs? Specs look like they should be great, but maybe there are some clock speed issues.
