  1. Hi everyone, A long time ago I bought a humble book bundle that included the following titles (as in the picture provided) : Bash_cookbook Bash_Pocket_Reference_2nd_Edition Classic_shell_scripting DNS_and_bind_5th_Edition Essential_System_Administration_3rd_Edition Learning_GNU_Emacs_3rd_Edition Learning_the_Bashshell_3rd_Edition Learning_the_Vi_and_Vi_Meditors_7th_Edition Learning_Unix_For_OSx_2nd_Edition Lex_and_Yacc Linux_Pocket_Guide_3rd_Edition Network_Trouble_Shooting_Tools Sed_and_Awk TCP_IP_Network_Administration_3rd_Edition Unix_Book_Bundle_Freetier_Updated_1479930452 Unix_In_a_Nutshell_4th_Edition Unix_Power_Tools Are these still relevant for me to jump into and start learning or is it a complete waste of my time? Thank you for your time.
  2. Thanks for all this info. You threw in a bunch of words that I'll go read on. And yes the prices are Canadian. I will keep looking around. Very appreciated.
  3. Hi everyone, I've got my eye on two refurbished servers but I'm not sure which would be best. Option 1 : Dell poweredge T320, Xeon E5-2470V2, 96Gb ram, 1×480 GB SSD +8×3 TB HDD, raid5 PERC H710 ,2x PSU 750 watt, $1100 Option 2 : Dell poweredge R510 , 2X Xeon X5650, 128 Go DDR3, 8x 3TB HDD , 2x PSU 750 Watt, $990 Use cases : Gaming servers, teamspeak, NAS, Jellyfin, for fun, any other use case down the road Things to know : Out of 100, I'm level 3 in server hardware and software (No problem with learning, part of why I'm doing this is for pure fun and learning). I understand some of the recommendations will come in saying this is too much hardware for my use case and because of the price. I understand there are options out there less powerful and less pricey but I'm ok with spending this much money since these are pretty decent systems. My concerns : Systems are old and therefore difficult to find parts to replace. The R510 has 8 drive bays and they are all populated. I seem to understand from the official spec sheet that some of these can be replaced by 2.5 inch SSD's but I'm unclear on this (documentation seems to say it's either all HDD or all SSD). Can any graphics card be dumped into a server? (I have a spare GTX750 lying around but I always see servers with quadro cards, can anything work?). Can any Raid controller be dumped in these? (Planning on hardware Raid5). From videos, I understand that all the drive bays of any server chassis is always connected to two wires to allow them to hook up to a raid controller, is this correct? Opinions? Recommendations? Tips? Thanks for your time.
  4. I have realized that I might've made a mistake in ordering the RAM. I got this model and I just now realized it states Intel XMP 2.0. Will this be compatible with an AMD config? CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2D3600C16 MOBO : https://www.newegg.ca/asus-rog-strix-x570-e-gaming/p/N82E16813119111?Item=N82E16813119111 CPU : https://www.newegg.ca/amd-ryzen-9-5900x/p/N82E16819113664?Item=N82E16819113664 RAM : https://www.newegg.ca/corsair-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236694?Item=N82E16820236694

  6. Budget (including currency): 200-250 Canadian dollars Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: ARMA III, Ground Branch, Streaming, gaming recording Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hey everyone, I'm upgrading my PC and I need a recommendation with regards to the PSU. I know there's the list of PSU's but I don't quite get it with the multi-rail and single rail stuff. Here are the new specs I will have : Ryzen 9 5900x (just bought it) Nvidia GTX 1060 FE 6gb VRAM (already have) MOBO : https://www.newegg.ca/asus-rog-strix-x570-e-gaming/p/N82E16813119111?Item=N82E16813119111 (just bought it) 2 x SSD (already have) 1 x HDD (alrady have) 1 x optical drive (alrady have) 16 gb ram 3600mhz (just bought it) Once things become normal, I intend on buying a 3070 so I need the new PSU to be able to power that as well. What PSU would you guys recommend for this build. I'm biased towards corsair, evga, and seasonic on that front.
  7. Ok. Noted. I won't be using any of his stuff. His stuff is pretty recent whereas mine is 10 years old so I won't risk it. Thanks for the quick replies
  8. My bro has a spare PSU cable that is a 8 to 4+4. Is using it not recommended since it's not something my PSU was built for at the time or will no harm come if I just slap on that cable (or is it absoluetely unnecessary to add it since it won't be using full 8 pin pwer anyhow?)
  9. Hey everyone, I just bought a new motherboard and I realized that the CPU has a 8+4 pin for power. My current mobo has 8 pin only. What I was wondering is if I can use a free 8 pin slot I have on my current PSU and get a new 8 to 4+4 psu cable or if I need to buy a new PSU. My build : 1 x HDD 2 x SSD 1 x DVD drive GTX 1060 FE 6gb VRAM Ryzen 5900x (I just ordered this) My current Items : PSU : https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/47mLrH/corsair-power-supply-rm750 MOBO : https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/jrkD4D/asus-motherboard-p8z77v New MOBO : https://www.newegg.ca/asus-rog-strix-x570-e-gaming/p/N82E16813119111?Item=N82E16813119111 Thanks for the help.
  10. Thank you for the awesome quick reply.
  11. Hi everyone, I'm not sure this belongs here but I wasn't sure where else to put it. I want to make my own ethernet cables and I don't know how it's done. I found this guide and was wondering if it's legit and if the recommended tools are accurate or if there are better options out there. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.howtogeek.com/60486/how-to-make-your-own-custom-length-network-cables/amp/
  12. Searched the forum and you're right the AIO pump header can be used for a regular fan and even has pwm capabilites. That kinda solves my problem.
  13. Hi everyone, I'm looking for motherboard ideas. I've been shopping a lot and researching but I am absolutely not sure at this point which one I'd grab. Here's some info to help : CASE : Cooler Master HAF XB EVO (I know it's an old case but I look it too much compared to standard cases) FANS : I plan on having 2 fans at the front of the case pulling air in, 1 in the rear pushing air out, and 1 x 200mm at the top pushing air out. BRAND : By preference, I would want an ASUS, I have just always liked their product line in general. Other requirements : X570 My concerns which are making this complicated way more than it should be is the fan headers. I have read up on what I could connect where and yes I know it is probably overkill to have the top 200mm fan considering I'm gonna go with a Noctua U14S 140mm CPU cooler but I'm not sure in what cpu_fan header I should plug the top 200mm fan versus the rear fan. I've read that people recommend plugging the rear fan into the CPU_OPT so that they can somewhat be in synch but then that means the top 200mm needs to be plugged where the rear fan would usually be. What do you guys think about this and which motherboard would best suit what I'm trying to do? Other notes : - CAD$ - Ideally do not want to pay more than $500 taxes included for MOBO (going somewhat balls to the wall with the build) - RGB is really really not a necessity (not a fan, pun intended) - I realise that since I won't be overclocking, the Noctua cpu_cooler is not necessary and the top 200mm is probably not necessary either but I want this bad boy to run super cool (will be putting RTX 3080 in it) and I don't like water cooling. Any help or feedback is appreciated (^_^).
  14. Yeah. I had initially started there and then realised my post was more for this thread. As soon as I've got everything selected I am definately posting here for peoples feedback. Also, thanks for the acrtic p12 fan info. I checked out a review and they are amazing for the value.
