  1. don't assume that just because it's a "good brand" of tv that It uses an IPS panel

Wasn't because they are 'good brands' but because LG is the manufacturer of most IPS panels and Samsung makes all PLS panels. Figured they'd be inclined to use their own products, turns out PLS isn't used for TV's.

Most TV panels seem to be either IPS or VA variants.

  2. The only 2.5k monitor with Gsync is the Swift. The price won't drop any time soon, it's a unique monitor.

A 2.5k IPS 120Hz Gysnc monitor would cost double the Swift given both IPS 120Hz & IPS Gsync are yet to exist, on their own they are niche products.

  3. This is how it'll play out...

GM200 is 28nm. ~40% more shaders than the 980. ~500mm2 die. Increased effective memory bandwidth by tweaking existing technolgy

390x is 20nm. ~40% more shaders than the 290x + GCN 1.2 improvements. ~?400mm2. Increased effective memory bandwidth with new memory tech. Lower power consumption & heat output = maybe better OCing headroom than GCN 1.1?

    Sooooo

    980Ti - ~20% performance over 980

    290x - ~30% performance over 290x

The 390x will ship for the cost of a 980 at the time. The 980Ti will ship for $700.

Just as about every other GPU launch seems to go

  4. I've decided I need to play Skyrim again, but would love recommendations of mods from you guys. A simple texture mod I could maybe get away with running on my Macbook... I do have windows installed so yea

Anyways, I want to do a realistic playthrough. So any realism mods are appreciated. Also, do people still use Nexus Mod Manager?

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

    SkyUI

Nah not unless you are getting too hectic with it. Steam Workshop is easier and has most of the popular Nexus mods.

  5. This is like rating a game with a numerical score, it does more harm than good. Creates controversy that isn't needed. A games worth can't be determined unless you play it/read a few reviews.

Focus on creating interesting characters, suited to their role, in their game and diversity should be inherent. Diversity is lacking because most games use 'safe' characters, catered to the majority & social 'norms' or it takes a backseat to other aspects like gameplay or graphics.

  6. I know the difference between panels, but what are the standard for TVs? is it the same as computer monitors?

No decent TV is TN. It doesn't have the viewing angles for it.

LG TV's would be IPS, Samsung PLS. Or atleast very similar panel technologies.

  7. I agree I guess, but would that not make someone, who spends lots of our on facebook playing candy crush, a gamer by that definition? Indeed what would be a passion for that person, if he/she spends a lot of time and money on that game? I don't identify with that person, and I personally don't see that as a gamer; at least not the same way I am a gamer. But this IS semantics, definitions. And they are blurry and greyzoned at best.

Do you have to have a good camera to be passionate about photography? When are you just taking pictures, and when are you actually a photographer? It's not easy to draw a line.

I see your point. I've got good camera gear, know most of the ins and outs of using it effectively, know photography theory & take 1000's of images on a trip but I wouldn't call myself a photographer. I wouldn't even call myself a gamer, owning a gaming PC, loads of cheap Summer Sale games & plenty of hours invested.

So I guess, for mine, regular participation in the activity (ie; take many images), maintain some deeper interest/passion/investment (eg; enter photo comps, further photography knowledge, keep up to date with latest gear, etc) & identifying yourself (eg; as a photographer) are the requisites.

But w/e, what's it really matter right?

  8. It'll get finished.

And when it is, all but the few "hardcore" PC players will have moved on. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if most already have. I certainly have.

True, it's still in Alpha. Yes it's going to be buggy and take time to develop. But issues that were present on launch last December are still present today. Adding some new items or emotes don't make up for zombies that still magically walk through walls, or that fall through the ground, become invisible and chase you until you are dead.

I'll give it a chance again in another 6 months, but at this rate I'm expecting more of the same.

    Yeah, spot on.

It's hard to keep an audience during such a long Alpha, and most people not willing to buy the unfinished work will have forgotten/moved on by the time 1.0 is released.

    It's certainly made me disinterested.
