  1. ah yes, i do understand your point, but covid in india is pretty bad, and i am actually an avid football player. because of covid im stuck at home with basically nothing to do, and ive always been interested in playing some games, so now seemed like a good time to make a purchase, especially with college coming as well
  2. yeah i agree, i would be ok with a regular laptop or pc with a dgpu in it, but considering the fact that those with a good dgpu are marketed as gaming laptops and look like theyve been ripped out of the control room of a spaceship, my options are rather limited. yeah xD, computer science and coding barely require any serious horsepower, but i was interested in exploring my options so i can have a clear idea about what i would like to proceed with and build a career, like photo and video editing, graphic designing, etc.
  3. im halfway through my 1st semester now, and ive been managing using a cloud IDE on my browser, but it is not what i would like to continue using. its a 32 bit system, so IDEs like spyder or pycharm dont work that well, leaving aside the fact that some of them cant even be installed on my system ah yes, i have heard that game dev is an intense job with not much return or benefits for the work you do, and youd be better off doing regular coding instead of game oriented coding. i was just considering doing it as a hobby though,
  4. oh i see, i dont think my parents would be ok with me working a job anyway, coz i have to study and stuff your earlier comment was helpful, thanks for those points, im bound to telll my dad that if he were to get me a high performance rig then i would take courses in video and photo editing.
  5. its a rather silly issue but numerous of my friends here are facing the same problem lmaooo
  6. not really, thats what i was taught in my social and politcal science classes, but that could be outdated or inaccurate. plus even if it was ok for me to get a job, my parents would disapprove of it anyway, plus since we dont struggle financially as a family, my parents would disapprove of it
  7. ah yes i agree with you. my initial plan was to build my own pc, and i had sorted my specs out and everything, but with college coming up, i would absolutely require a laptop. since i cannot afford to both build a pc and get a laptop, i decided i would just go with a laptop. what do you mean? is it legal for 16 y/o people and older to get a job in india?
  8. i am learning to code, and im interested in game development and graphic designing. would those be valid use cases of a high power machine?
  9. orrrrrrrrrr, wait for a few years and ask linus to buy all the ancient tech sitting in my house for lots of $$$ so he can review it while i buy a 6090ti
  10. kinda a mix of both actually, i want to get into graphic and game dev im sorry, i understand what you are trying to say, but his hatred towards gaming is pretty strong. he made me sell my ps2 which was gifted to me about 3 months after i was able to use it. i dont score bad in school as well, and i am physically active. so when i ask him why not, most of his arguments are pointless.
  11. the gpu enclosure shenanigan is WAY out of my overall budget i wish i could, i dont get any pocket money(my parents dont hesitate to buy me anything much), and its illegal for citizens under the age of 18 to get a job.
  12. as of now its a python programming and graphic designing course, but i am interested in things like 3d rendering and game development.
  13. just for some context, ive always wanted a gaming pc for the past 4 years, but my dad refuses to get me one, since he believes that it is "damaging to the health", "is a waste of time", "has no benefit", and "brings about violence in kids". im 16 years old and i live in india, so i am not legally allowed to get a job anywhere, coz thats how the rules here work, which is why i cannot earn money and buy a pc for myself. all this while, ive been using a pc with a AMD Athlon II X2 250 with no dGPU and 2 gigs of RAM, and it is honestly frustrating and puzzling as to how i managed all these years with that potato. now that i am almost heading to college, and am studying computer science and designing, my dad has agreed to get me a new laptop, since i will need a laptop for college and cannot carry a desktop around. he has given me a budget of 50000 INR (or 600-700 USD), and the only laptops that fit under this budget are those with a either a 1050 or a 1650, and since this is the system that i will be using for about 4-5 years, i honestly cant see it run games releasing within the next 2-3 years. my dad is willing to increase my budget all the way up to 120,000 INR(or about 1000-1100 USD) which would get me a laptop with a i7-10750H and an rtx 2060, but wont do so unless i give him a convincing reason as to why i need all that horsepower in the laptop. if i tell him that i would game on it, he would probably even take back his first offer of even getting me a laptop in the first place. id like your help in giving me some reasons as to why one would need a system of this power, that are not gaming related. im sorry if this post seems funny or desperate or illogical, but i guess desperate times call for desperate measures.
