I am. I select it and then it boots on to the old drive. I am wondering if I am missing a step or something? I will try again and remove the original drive and see what it does.

Hey guys, I've followed some tutorials with no luck. I am trying to change from my M.2 drive to a new PCIE M.2 drive I installed in the 2nd slot. I cloned my boot drive with Macrium and tried booting on the new drive in BIOS but it keeps going back to my original drive. Am I missing something? Thanks, James

Sorry for the late reply. It is an M.2. I put the new one in and used my USB Windows repair tool to get windows up and running. Apparently the activation key is built into the machine? I was able to install most of my old free programs and get them up. I then ordered a M.2 enclosure for the old drive and was able to transfer my files the next day. It is definitely faster and double the space. My only question is now, how do I reinstall the old programs without their installer. My 3d printer program for instance was specific to that brand and my old program has all of the custom settings and calibrations. I moved it over onto the new drive and I can use it, but it doesn't show up in the start menu. It's not like it's integrated into the computer but just running in the folder I pulled from the old drive. Is there a trick or should I just deal with it?

Yeah I don't have a cable. I was hoping to get it done today but cannot find the windows key that came with the laptop. I may have to order a cable and wait.

Hello. Is there an easy way to transfer my laptop's hard drive to my usb drive so I can replace it with a larger one and then transfer the image back? I only have one m.2 bay in the laptop and bought a brand new hard drive that was on sale. Not sure what would be the easiest way since it won't be able to boot up with no operating system on the new one. Any advice? James

I don't have a monitor so that was my reason for the all in one packaging. I'm editing 4k 30fps and 60fps and have been using Davinci Resolve. I believe it is H.264. It is being shot with a DJI Phantom 4, Mavic Pro, and Mavic Air. I have been downgrading it to 1080 because of my current laptop and that's why I need something better. I really like the idea of getting another laptop because of the portability but am figuring a desktop is more economical? I see all of the laptops rated for gaming but can't find any opinions on what specs would run Resolve smoothly. Especially since I usually have to color grade the footage. I have been looking at Ryzen laptops and they seem to fall in at a lower price point, but would hate for it to struggle after I get it.

With that desktop, I was budgeting for a gpu, ram and ssd. I'm wondering if I will get into the price of an entry level laptop though? I'd appreciate any recommendations on components as well.

I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible until I can get some paid jobs to upgrade to something a little better. I'm looking at this desktop on Amazon... But am open to any and all suggestions. I recently bought a laptop for night college courses and general computer stuff and got the bottom of the line one of these... AMD Athlon™ Gold 3150U (2.4 GHz, up to 3.3 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 2 cores) + AMD Radeon™ Graphics 8GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM Anyway, shortly after buying it, I got into drones. Then I really got into drones. Now I'm giving a drone business a go. Problem is this thing is lacking in the video editing horsepower. It will manage 1080 ok but really gets into trouble on 4k. I upped the ram to 16gb and while that helped, it's still a matter of making an edit, heading to the kitchen or the tv and waiting for it to apply the color or whatever it was you did. Since having sunk most of my money into drones and startup costs, what direction should I go here? 1) Upgrade this thing or is there some drivers or anything that would give me any sort of chance? 2) I have a family member willing to give me what I paid for it so they can have a new laptop. I could either build a desktop but then have to factor in a monitor, or buy a better laptop. 3) Is it reasonable to buy a refurb off Amazon with the monitor, keyboard, mouse setup and then just max out the ram and add a GPU? I liked Linus' cheap gaming rig he did with the Optiplex. Do the same principals apply for cheap editing? 4) ? Any other ideas? I used to be into building desktops and don't think I'd have a problem but the last one I put together was when the "new" Windows XP was released. It's been cheap laptops ever since. Thanks everyone!
