  1. Hello everyone! I've been looking to upgrade my PC a little bit and am hoping to snag myself a cheap (used) graphics card in the near future. I've been watching Ebay as well as local classified ads. Are there certain things I should be looking to avoid in the used market? I've been advised to avoid brands such as MSI, Gigabyte & PNY. Is that solid advice, or am I limiting my options needlessly? Any advise you have is appreciated. Thank you for your time!
  2. Hey everyone, I'm looking into getting a new TV for the basement. I've narrowed my search to something akin to either an LG C1, a Sony A80J, or something similar. Do any of you have personal experience with these TVs and can speak to their pros/cons in day to day use? An example would be the Vizio I'm replacing had a good (for the time) picture, but the smart UI was slow to load and react, and after some time the wifi became less reliable. My main use for this TV will be console gaming (I'm currently running an Xbox One X, but am looking to upgrade to the Xbox Series X), followed closely by streaming services such as Netflix, HBO, etc. Any insight you guys are able to provide is greatly appreciated! I tend to stress out a little bit on larger purchases like this, I find it helpful to get others opinions before diving in, so thanks for that!
  3. I'm in the market for a new Wireless Router. The number of options out there is somewhat overwhelming, but I think the TP-Link AX6600 should fit my needs. My question though, is what (if any) real world difference can I expect to see from the normal model and the "gaming" model? Currently on Amazon the gaming model is slightly cheaper. If they're essentially the same thing, I figure I might as well save a few dollars. Are any of you familiar with this model and/or know the real differences? 4. Hello everyone, I'm hoping you guys can help point me towards a few good options for wireless earbuds. My main concern is the quality of the microphone. My primary use case is going to be for phone calls, video meetings and conferences. My environment could range from a quiet office to a noisy data center with thousands of servers running in the background. I need to make sure that my audio is coming through clearly and with as little distortion and background noise as possible. I'd much prefer earbuds, as a headset would be a little more cumbersome than I'd like, but I'd still consider it. I've poked around the internet, and find myself drawn to the following: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093SLWMS7/?coliid=I3KQMGNA8O13UM&colid=22I9POOOB7T30&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 If you guys have any input, opinions or experience you'd like to share, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
  5. Do you use these for phone calls very often? I've also been looking at some of Anker's Soundcore lineup, but my main need is towards microphone quality rather than sound quality. Was wondering what your experience is in that regard.
  6. Budget (including currency): $500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Will be performing DOD 3-pass for SAS drives Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello everyone. I'm here because I was trying to get this figured out on my own, but I got a little overwhelmed. Thank you for any help you can provide. My needs are as follows: From time to time, my department will receive various HDDs, some of which we're asked to keep as potential spares. We receive any possible mixture of 2.5" & 3.5" drives, including all makes and models, but always SAS. Per policy, we're required to perform a minimum of a DOD 3-pass wipe on all drives before they're eligible for re-use. The volume of drives we need to wipe at any given time is rather low, I don't see us needing to wipe any more than 1-4 drives at a time. My struggle is how to do this efficiently. Ideally, I'd like to be able to purchase, or build a machine that will accept and recognize the drives without any configuration changes (specifically hoping to avoid needing to change any RAID settings, etc), and be able to execute the wipe via DBAN, or another similar tool. I'm hoping to make this as close to plug-and-play as possible so that any member of the team can learn what to do as simply as possible. Thank you all for your time!
  7. Hello everyone! I've been watching Linus Tech Tips for years now. You can imagine I was rather surprised to see one of his older videos appear inside some computer-based training that has been assigned to my department. I had a couple of thoughts though, 1) That's pretty cool! / Good for Linus! 2) Can they do that? Specifically they used this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvuHsu8S6v8 cutting off at 5:41. As fun as it was to see Linus become a part of my job, I can't help but wonder if this hasn't happened without his knowledge. I figure the forum here is a good place to start. :)
  8. Hello everyone! In the near future I will have the ability to acquire some decommissioned equipment. I've been fascinated with the idea of a home lab, but don't really know what I would do with it. What do you all use your home servers for? What have you found the most useful vs the most niche? I'll likely be able to snag either an HP Proliant DL380 Gen8, or a Cisco UCS C240 M3. Thanks for your input! EDIT: spelling
