  1. Yeah the issue is limited data at remote work sites ie satellite internet that's capped at 5gb a month so not much streaming ability. The 32gb ram is due already having it on hand from a repair job I did a few years ago. Thank you everyone for the suggestions, and yeah high capacity drives are the plan as the currently in use ones die
  2. Budget (including currency): CND $3500 Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Plex Media server + home assistant+ encoding Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I plan to use some old gear like my gtx1080 and 32 GB ddr4 2666 cl16 ram, will need a mobo and cpu but looking at ryzen 5900 territory for dealing with multiple Plex streams (think 4x 4k60fps or more). Would also possibly host extra steam games when going to remote offline work sites for 6 months at a time doesn't have to be easily portable and rack mount is easier to manage. Case is the biggest issue ATM.
  3. I prefer the discreet gpu, however I can't remember the specifics for performance on the ryzen processors atm and have to look into the functionality. Also originally had a different case that didn't have room for gpu + hdd bays
  4. Budget (including currency): $1,500 CDN Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS, Plex server, Home Assistant, possibly unify OS VM based on what I upgrade the network to further down the road. Other details: Already have a giga-bit switch which is more than enough for network use as there is only 3 users. Have 5xHDDs already as I'm currently using my gaming rig to host Plex Media Server and as a windows file share for backing up laptop. 32Gb DDR4 2666Mhz CL16 ram I'm looking for something that is more expandable for future use i.e. as the plex server grows and home automation becomes more involved plus data back-up with 7 year retention requirement size would become an issue. I have experience working with different server configs etc so am comfortable building one myself as I would love not to pay the costs for pre-built systems Was thinking along the lines of this: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fW798r CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor ($272.98 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black 55 CFM CPU Cooler ($79.95 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard ($199.00 @ B&H) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($129.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate IronWolf NAS 12 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($229.99 @ Adorama) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1650 G6 4 GB D6 VENTUS XS OC Video Card ($189.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define 7 XL ATX Full Tower Case ($242.98 @ Newegg) Power Supply: SeaSonic PRIME Ultra Titanium 750 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($209.99 @ B&H) Total: $1554.87 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2022-06-18 09:48 EDT-0400
  5. Did you end up getting a m.2 cooler for the m.2 connected directly to the CPU? If yes which one as I'm running the same board with a samsung 970 evo and due to the aging graphics card is heating the nvme drive to much (+60C) on the controller reading. As a temp solution I increased my chassis fans just to try and getting more air flow into the system. Thanks
  6. Do you think the D15 would fit (it's currently on sale in my region for the same price as the 12S) or would I have to contact noctua to see if it does fit?
  7. Yeah, I would be concerned after I upgrade in a year or two to another i7 or i9 whether the EVO would be enough to keep the thing cool. And the mag lev fans from noctua would be less noisy... just asking for general opinions
  8. I'm currently running a ROG Maximus Extreme 8 board with an intel i7-6700k, ROG Strix GTX 1080, Corsair SSD, 32GB RAM. The CPU cooler that I currently have is trying to bite the dust (Corsair H100i v2) and I'm debating between replacing with the cooler master 212 Evo or a Noctua 15D or U14S. I'm using a corsair 750D case so I have the room for 140mm fans and don't have to worry about ram spacing. I will need to upgrade the rig in a couple of years when the FPS finally drops below 60. I would like to keep the air cooler and not have to replace due to upgrade. At this point I do need to overclock a little bit to even keep some games at 60FPS so having a decent cooler to handle the extra heat would be great. Thank you
