  1. sup everyone, I was wondering what would be the best OS for a home server. It is going to be accessed by 3 windows desktops, and 2 Macbooks. it will be primarily used as a Nas, but will also be used as a media server for Jellyfin. I would also like to use it as the ingest station for physical media that would be Uploaded to Jellyfin. So if anyone has some recommendations or knowledge I would appreciate it. I know That if you want to run Jellyfin on Truenas you need to use scale not core, and does anyone know if it supports running a 5.25 in drive for reading DVD's. Thanks everyone
  2. awesome thanks I will pick one of these up, they are significantly cheaper than the external ones with the same feature set. Plus I will be able to watch dvds at my computer!
  3. I Don't care about a movie, but I would watch a mini doc about LTT. or a Docu-series about Large and successful YT channels, like LTT would be cool.
  4. So I just checked thingaverse and there are several cages to hold a internal reader like this externally, so I have a couple questions you might or might not know the answer to. Is there a negative to running something like this externally, similar to running running a hard drive externally? And what is the reliability like, have you used one
  5. My case does not have a 5 1/4 drive bay, so i would prefer a external reader, but if they make external cages for these I would totally run one. sorry should have specified. Also does this have playback support? because if so it would make my desk more functional
  6. I am a physical media fan, and because of this I have a somewhat large collection of CD's and DVD's. I am also a Zoomer though, and the only device I have that can actually play DVD's is my Xbox that is hooked up to the family room tv. So I would like to watch my media on my phone or pc. I don't have a home server but My desktop could totally run a small plex server for myself. What CD/DVD reader/burner is good. I want mine to last for a while, because I plan on collecting more media, plus I don't know how to privateer stuff from the internet. I looked on amazon but they all look janky, and my sister got one that immediately ate her DVD, and I would prefer for that not to happen to any of my DVD's. I wouldn't mind spending around 60 bucks. Read and write is important because reasons. Sorry Mods if this is in the wrong spot, feel free to move if necessary. TLDR: What CD/DVD burner/reader is quality, and wont damage my media
  7. Optimum tech is awesome. He is a sweaty fps boi, so that is often the angle he pursues when reviewing a product. I'm still going to watch ltt, but I haven't watched their product reviews in over a year. I watch their fun content, intel/amd tech upgrades, house content
  8. Thanks everybody. I am going to list ram and try to sell it. and donate everything else
  9. What do you do with old hardware and cables? haven't thrown any of my old stuff away, but I have 3 or 4 European cables that came with a some monitors, and a bag of ddr3 ram. Its literally like 20 sticks. I don't have space to keep it, but I don't to just toss them IMG_0593.HEIC
  10. Thanks I will definitely take everyone’s advice, and get a more generic, but over specced arm. I appreciate it, thank you.
  11. Hello, everyone. I have been rocking the stock feet on my gigabyte m32q, but they are big (if you got a feet fetish I can wholeheartedly recommend this monitor). Yet I have been tempted. I saw this video on a cable free desk, and the monitor arm in the video is sick, but it costs a lot (150 dollars on amazon https://a.co/d/79dm9tW ). In the video they talk about it being made by a bunch of different companies. Does anyone know a similar monitor arm that is less expensive. My budget is about 80 dollars
  12. So would it be better to get a core series chip then?
  13. would a system like this with decent HD's be a decent home nas/plex server?
  14. Thanks everyone I will probably go 4k if it goes on sale in the next month or 2, if not I will try the 1440 and if I don’t like it I will return it.
  15. so you dont think it matters that there is a slight benefit over 1080 at 27
  16. my pc can play most games at 4k pretty well(I have a 3080 and 5950x), and I have no problem using dlss as well. I would prefer the savings of 1440p vs 4k, the 4k monitor is 200 dollars more expensive. and I would prefer the higher refresh rate as well. and ppi at 1440 at 32in is 91 so the same as 1080 at 24in so slightly better density, but the 4k ppi is just crazy. is that due to size or ppi?
  17. Hey All. Finally looking to upgrade my monitor, now that I have everything else sorted in my setup. I currently have a 27 in 1080p monitor and I notice significant screen door effect when typing or playing games, and am unhappy with it. since I do not own a tv and have one room this is the Primary display I will consume all content on, play Games, Watch YouTube, twitch, Tv shows, Movies, Etc. So I have chosen 32 in as my desired screen size. from people who have these monitors of this size in 1440 what is your opinion, is it good do you enjoy 4k content? if you could go back would you switch to 4k? 4k users what do you think? is gaming performance good enough? Do like it. Responses appreciated. have a great day!
  18. I agree about getting one two Terabyte instead of two one Terabyte drives. Also if you can swing a 6900xt in your budget that is a much better card if you don’t care about ray tracing. between a 3080 and 3090 in traditional rendering. But I would recommend the arctic freezer 34 esports duo or the noctua nhu 14 redux for a cpu cooler both come highly recommended from gamers nexus
  19. I think that there could be a couple really good videos. Maybe some unboxing videos on short circuit on helmets with heads up displays, and airbag vests and jackets. or best helmet cams
  20. I live in California and we are one of the leading states in terms of ev adoption, at around 14% of new car sales. But in socal where a majority of ev sales in the state are located. I for sure think Tesla specifically is the most represented luxury vehicle. I think I see more of them than other luxury brands like Audi BMW Mercedes’ Lexus etc…
  21. You could probably swap a intel nuc into one. it would probably be super difficult, and I don’t know why you would want to.
  22. I have a GMMK pro and I really like it. They fixed most of the early issues and I think it sounds/feels great good first custom board
