I bought a broken GTX 580 off a friend for 5 dollars just to see if I can fix it, he said when he tried to use it would sometimes boot to desktop but then a pattern of green squares would appear all over the screen. At the time safe mode also worked. When I took it apart i noticed a capacitor fell off and I resoldered it back on, but when I was doing that I noticed some white stuff on the pcb and the screw point for the bracket has some green on it. Is it safe/ would it work to leave the card in vinegar overnight to get rid of this stuff?
I have not tested the card yet because I'm waiting for thermal paste and pads to arrive.
