Hey everyone. I'm about to build my very first PC, but I have a question about my motherboard. So I'm gonna make use of the NZXT H510 case. This comes with a front port for USB 3.1 Gen 2 (3.2 Gen 2) Type C. Of course this means I need to have a Type-C header on my motherboard. I've decided to make it extra difficult for myself because I want a white motherboard, for my black and white build. I've come up with two options: The ASRock B550 Steel Legend which comes in at around 180 euros and the Asus PRIME X570-PRO ATX AM4 which is around 220 euros. The difference however, is that the ASRock B550 has a 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C header (which means 5Gbps speed), whereas the ASUS PRIME has a Gen 2 10Gbps header. My question is, can I plug my Type-C connector into the slower motherboard port without problems? I don't know if the extra speed is worth the extra money (my original budget was set to 1500 euros). Also gonna be used for video-editing (4K) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Aiming for 1440p at 60Hz, maybe 4K? Long story: This will be my very first pc build so there's a lot of stuff I don't know yet. I already made a build, but I don't know if I chose the best parts for the money, or if there are better options out there. I don't wanna overspend. Some advice would be appreciated! From what I understand for the CPU, more cores would definitely help with video editing, whereas higher clock speeds would help with gaming. So I chose the Ryzen 7 3700x (8 cores, 3.6 to 4.4 GHz). For 40 to 80 bucks less I could go for the 5 3600(X/XT). Would this be a better choice? Has 2 less cores, I don't know how much of a difference that would make. Also, AMD will be announcing new CPU's next month. Will that affect the CPU prices much? If the 3700x would go down a lot, maybe that would be a better option for the money. For the motherboard: I have absolutely no idea what would be best, or what price point would be the best to set at a 1500 euro build. For now I chose the MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS, which is around 150 euro. Here's what I need on a motherboard: 4 DIMM slots for future RAM expansions, USB 3.0 connectors, a USB-C connector (I read the NZXT H510 case I wanna use has a seperate motherboard connector for the USB-C, so I need an option for that). M.2 slot(s) for my SSD. But I honestly don't know what other (cheaper?) board would be a better option. Again, I don't understand motherboards in the slightest, like what differentiates them. Is there a better (cheaper) option? Or should I spend more on a board and less on, for example, a CPU? I don't care much for RGB. So that saves me a lot of money, doesnt it! Haha. I can get a Windows 10 key for cheap, because I'm a student. Other things like monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset are not included in the budget. Storage wise: 500GB M.2 SSD and 2TB HDD. Lastly, if it matters, I'm in the Netherlands. This is gonna be my first ever build, so I'm curious to see what you all have to say. Thanks for the help!
