With the PCIE gen 4.0 compatible gpus from Nvidia people have seen a difference of few percent in gaming benchmarks so I guess that when Direct Storage comes around the difference will be even more apparent. So my question is if motherboards with multiple PCIE 3.0 slots could potentially be utilized to work in tandem with a single gpu for example an rtx 3080. Could this be possible, would it be beneficial and if not what are the possible problems, like delay, limited number of PCIE lanes that could bottleneck other components, making physical adapter for that and so on. (side note: My knowledge about intel/amd motherboard traces/layouts and PCIE control is nonexistent, I'm sorry but that's why I'm asking and also because it's kinda sad how many last gen pcs will leave some performance on the table, me too since I hope I can afford it one day).
