  1. Hello, my 4090 will arrive soon and I just want to know if a firmware update for the card is required upon installation or can I just skip that unless I have a problem with it? also when I install the card, do you think its better to connect the cable when the card is out of the case first or install the card first then connect the cable? if I don't hear a click when I plug the cable in, should I take it out and back in again until I hear one or just apply a bit of pressure to make sure its secure? thank you {I'm using the corsair cable with an HX1200w btw)
  2. You heard it here guys! when the 50 series GPUs come out, your 4090s will be "obsolete" and will spontaneously turn into rotary phones and floppy disks.
  3. Hello, I just have a simple question regarding the 600w pcie 5.0 12vhpwr type 4 Corsair psu cable. I know it makes things a lot more neat in comparison to the nvidia adapter that is supplied with the card and I know both cables are rated for 600w, but something about using less wiring to supply the same amount of power makes me feel like its potentially more dangerous to use. I already have the Corsair cable and plan to use it when I get my Msi Suprim X 4090 soon with my 1200w corsair PSU. Is the Corsair cable safe to use with the 4090 or at least just as safe as the Nvidia adapter?
  4. Well i'm using the Corsair cable, but are you saying that after looking at the dimensions of my case and this specific card or just as general advice?
  5. Hello, soon I'll be getting the MSI 4090 Suprim X to fit in my Corsair Icue 5000x and I know the card should have no problem actually fitting but will it be a problem with regards to the cable itself? I now have the 12vhpwr Corsair cable .....this one...https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Power-Supplies/600W-PCIe-5-0-12VHPWR-Type-4-PSU-Power-Cable/p/CP-8920284 and I'll be getting the 90 degree adapter from Cablemod about 10 days or so after I get the card itself. Should I just install the card when I get it or wait until I actually get my hands on the 90 degree adapter before I even try to install it? Specs: i7 12700k rtx 3080 32gb DDR5 Corsair HX1200w
  6. You won't have a bottleneck if you have a 12700k or better so a 13700k is just fine. Have you figured out if a 4080 would fit in your case without adapter cable getting too squished? the 40 series cards are comically enormous so I'd be more worried about that and whether you have a good enough power supply for it.
  7. oh, nice! the cables look like they have ample space don't even look like they're mushed up against the side panel or anything. Maybe I don't need that 90 degree adapter then and could just get that Corsair cable. Thanks for the info this really helps me visualize what it would look like in my case.
  8. This looks pretty good actually. What height is that 4080? is it also like 140ish mm? I'm just wondering if this is how it'll pretty much look in my case as well.
  9. they halted 4090 production just to sell 4080s? wow, that really sucks. I decided I don't want a 4080 unless they lower the price by $200 or so...that's how they could sell more 4080s, not halt production on the better card.... I need the 90 degree adapter because the cable needs at least 35mm of space before a bend to avoid problems and if I don't get the adapter, then I'll only be able to give it about 30mm or less assuming my case's max cpu cooler height clearance is the same as GPU, which is 170mm. btw, would something like this vertical mount work for my Corsair icue 5000x case or no? https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Vertical-GPU-Mounting-AB-RH175-B1-175/dp/B0B1L86PMQ/ref=sr_1_21?crid=3ONQNE3ZSNJ4G&keywords=4090%2Bvertical%2Bmount&qid=1677179380&s=electronics&sprefix=4090%2Bvertical%2Bmount%2B%2Celectronics%2C71&sr=1-21&th=1
  10. Hello, sooner or later I'll be upgrading into a 4090 and I've figured out almost everything that I need to do in order to get it installed. I have to buy the MSI RTX 4090 Gaming X trio (140mm in height) along with this cable https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Power-Supplies/600W-PCIe-5-0-12VHPWR-Type-4-PSU-Power-Cable/p/CP-8920284 and this 90 degree adapter https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-12vhpwr-90-degree-angled-adapter-variant-a/ (protrudes 21mm from the gpu so 140+21= 161mm) and I'll be putting it in a Corsair icue 5000x case (has 170mm cpu height clearance) . Mounting the card vertically would solve the issue too yes but 4090 is a 3 slot card and my case only allows 2 slot cards to be mounted vertically and I've never even mounted a card vertically before and don't really know how to do that anyway. My problem now is, I thought those 90 degree adapters are available for purchase and it turns out its just a preorder and it'll be a while until I get my hands on one. Is there any other company making these adapters besides cablemod? has anyone even got their hands on these adapters yet to confirm if they work well or not? the MSI 4090 Gaming X trio to my surprise is out of stock everywhere for msrp. I thought they had an issue selling these cards and they were sitting on shelves collecting dust, why are they out of stock all of the sudden?
  11. alright, sounds good. So basically this cable https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Power-Supplies/600W-PCIe-5-0-12VHPWR-Type-4-PSU-Power-Cable/p/CP-8920284 will work with this adapter https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-12vhpwr-90-degree-angled-adapter-variant-a/ and the MSI 4090 gaming X along with a Corsair HX1200w psu. Is that correct?
  12. Sorry I edited my post after you commented already. I was saying, MSI 4090 gaming x trio is listed here for Variant A https://store.cablemod.com/compatibility/ but not here https://store.cablemod.com/12vhpwr-angled-adapter/ for the part where it lists compatible cards.
  13. https://store.cablemod.com/compatibility/ scroll down to "12VHPWR 90/180 Degree Angled Adapters" if you go to the main page for the adapter itself, it doesn't mention MSI 4090 gaming X trio at all. scroll down to right under where it says "awesome styling" https://store.cablemod.com/12vhpwr-angled-adapter/
  14. The compatibility list says Variant A "MSI Gaming X Trio 4090 90 Degree Variant A (backplate side), 180 Degree Variant B (backplate side)" while the Variant A store page itself doesn't mention MSI gaming X trio, but mentions that it supports other cards. The Gaming X trio isn't on the B variant store page either. That's why I'm confused.
  15. I've never mounted a gpu vertically nor do I really want to learn how to mount an expensive card vertically for the first time. I just need answers for the questions I asked in my opening post.
  16. yes it will work with the Corsair type 4 12vhpwr cable I linked? or yes it'll work with an MSI 4090 gaming X trio? if so which variant? A or B? Can both the 90 degree adapter along with the Corsair cable work together with my PSU? is there any downside with using the corsair cable and the adaptor together? does the cable even work with my psu?
  17. Hello, I'm trying to upgrade to a 4090, but I have several issues that I need to help with figuring out before I make any purchase. 1- I have a Corsair icue 5000x case and in terms of length (max gpu length for the case is 400mm), a 4090 will fit just fine, but the problem is with the height since I need 35mm of clearance before any bend on the cable. The case says it has 170mm of CPU cooler height clearance, but I don't know if that applies to GPU height as well. 2- since I need 35mm of space just for the cable and no 4090 out there is shorter in height than 140mm, 140+35= 175mm and assuming the max cpu cooler height for the case is the same as the GPU, i'll be about 5mm short not matter what so I'll need to use a 90 degree adapter from cablemod. 3- the 90 degree adapter from cable mod does not mention the MSI RTX 4090 gaming X trio (shortest 4090 I can find in terms of height besides the founders edition) as compatible on the store page for the adapter, but it does mention it in the compatibility list, so can I use this adapter with an MSI RTX 4090 Gaming X trio or not? https://store.cablemod.com/12vhpwr-angled-adapter/ if I can, then which variant am I suppose to get for the MSI RTX 4090 gaming X trio? Variant A or Variant B? 4- I have a Corsair HX1200w PSU and I have to get this cable https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Power-Supplies/600W-PCIe-5-0-12VHPWR-Type-4-PSU-Power-Cable/p/CP-8920284 Will this cable work fine with the cablemod 90 degree adapter that I linked along with my Corsair 1200w PSU? I know this might sound like a dumb question, but I really need to make sure since making mistakes with this kind of stuff can cause some real damage. Thanks in advance.
  18. Can someone please help me with the 3 questions I asked in my opening post?
  19. I would like to go ahead and just upgrade into a 4080 sooner or later when prices drop so I would really like to stay on topic and discuss mainly the 3 concerns I've outlined in my opening post and not talk about anything else for the time being. Even if I don't upgrade at all, this information would help me in the future anyway since I don't think Nvidia is going to stop using these 12vhpwr connectors anytime soon. P.S if you guys could find me one of those 12vhpwr 90 degree cables that I would work for a 4080 and my PSU that would be awesome. That way I don't have to worry about issues related to bending it.
  20. I think I would like to upgrade, but I'm going to wait a little while for the rumored price drop. I would like to get some of these concerns addressed for when that day comes.
  21. Turning Ray tracing off helps A LOT yes, but turning settings down on a somewhat "high end" system just feels horrible. I feel like a lot of these new games are counting on you to use DLSS/frame generation in order to run their games well with raytracing. Even if I turn off RT AND turn DLSS on, the game still gets frame drops into the high 50s. While Hogwarts Legacy doesn't really stutter as much for me, frame drop is still just as bad of a problem. Stuttering I get in games like MW2, Returnal, and dead space.
  22. Well, my stuttering issues come from triple A titles mainly. I don't have this issue with older games that use less than 9gb of vram basically the second I start the game, that's why i'm thinking this is a vram related issue.
  23. Yes I do, all of the games I mentioned automatically use at least 9.2gb of vram at least, which is near max. That number fluctuates, but I don't think always being near max vram is a good thing and that's likely the reason why I have this stuttering problem in so many new games.
  24. Hello, I've been getting a lot of trouble lately with my 3080 where a lot of the new games (even some of the older ones like call of duty) would constantly stutter no matter what I did. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that my 3080 is the 10gb version and that amount of vram simply isn't enough anymore it seems especially at 1440p. I was really hoping to wait at least until the 50 series cards come out to upgrade, but the performance right now is so bad already that there is no point waiting 2 years. Some of the games that stutter heavily or get a lot of frame drops are basically all the new ones like Dead Space, Hogwarts Legacy, and Returnal. I feel like now I have to upgrade, but there are a bunch of concerns I have that I'm hoping you guys could help me address. 1- I have a Corsair HX1200w PSU and that's just a 2.0 PSU so I would have to use an adapter, however I heard that Corsair made their own 12vhpwr cable and I need to know EXACTLY which cable I need to get for my particular PSU because there are multiple versions of that cable, do I have to get type 4? if possible just give me the name of the cable i'm suppose to get. 2- GPU clearance in terms of length is not a problem, my problem is with GPU height because i'm trying to make sure that I have at least 35mm before any kind of bend on the cable to avoid any problems. I would like to know which 4080 would be small enough in height that would allow me to do that with my case? I have a Corsair icue 5000x case 3- Are there any risks of using a 2.0 PSU or do I really really have to get a 3.0 PSU? my problem is, not only do I have one of these HX 1200W PSUs but I have two of them since I had one in my other PC so getting another PSU just because its 3.0 feels like a terrible waste. 25. So quick update, build the pc and everything ran perfectly fine. Bios came out of the box with version F7 or F8...idk don't remember but its one of the more recent ones. I decided to keep XMP turned off and never tried to enable it just because I don't want any instability right now. Maybe some time down the line I will enable X.M.P. Thanks for all your help yall, much appreciated! <3
