Again things Nvidia has you may not need, but will pay for anyway.  Also there is the whole monitor vs. gpu thing. You don’t need more GPU than you have monitor.  If you can wait a bit though, waiting is preferred.  The gpu situation is something of a swirling morass right now. Build lists like that are generally good for only a couple of days.  Things have been changing very quickly as of late. Particularly prices.

@Le monke did a 3600 build. I don’t see anything wrong with it myself for what it is. My issues are more conceptual. I am not sure that a 3600 will be useful into 2022 for any random game.  Same goes for the gpu.  If you want to spend $900 on a computer though it’s a decent way to do it.  For all I know it may game into 2025.  I was merely pointing out that if you want to do a 3100 build it should cost a lot less than $900.  I do think a 3700 build will definitely  last into 2025 assuming gpu updates as needed.  They’re hard to do for $900 though and there would need to be functionality sacrifices.

You need to pay attention to monitor type. If your monitor is 1080p@60, it doesn’t make sense to try to drive more unless you update the monitor.

Means nothing.  What color a memory heat sink is painted mess near nothing. The bit you’re looking at that is colored isn’t even the memory.  It’s a heat sink/protector for the memory.  It’s just a hunk of aluminum.

PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 14.8 (END OF LIFE)
    Last Update: 27-07-2021

    Legend :
Gray - EoL/obsolete and/or otherwise not recommended for purchase.
Green - small form-factor (gold and blue colors are disregarded due to scarcity of SFX PSUs)
Gold - best units in the tier (includes requirements for blue color in tier A)
Blue - quiet operation under moderate load (see details in the spreadsheet)
Hyphen / Dash - Series / lineups separator
Slash - Models (inside one series) separator
Parenthesis / Round brackets - Model variations (which belong to the same position)
Square brackets - Additional description (wattage range, part of SKU code, label / casing color, release year)
Numbers in red colored square brackets - footnotes, see descritptions at the end of respective tiers
Low priority subtiers - Lack of info (no reviews) or minor issues (see the corresponding tab in the spreadsheet). Not recommended for purchase over any normal priority units.
Multi-rail units - Not necessarily better than single-rail units but provide an extra layer of protection by having 12V OCP set lower than total capacity, which is especially relevant for very high capacity units (=>1kW). Pay attention to rails configuration when using with high power draw components to avoid shutdowns.

See spreadsheet for changelog, methodology, detailed description of colors, review sources, notes on grayed-out units including issues like GPU incompatibility or quality and performance issues, and other additional info.

[1] Units experiencing tripping issues with high transient power draw GPUs like AMD Vega, 6900 XT and nVidia RTX3080 / 3080 Ti / 3090.
[2] Corsair SF units with LOT codes from 194448* through 201148* have potential problems, Corsair conducts a voluntary replacement, source.
[3] Units that don't reach full rated capacity under full rated input voltage range.
[4] Antec EA Pro Gold has versions for Chinese market made by FSP on competely different, worse, group-regulated platform (tier D). Source #1, #2.
[5] Corsair HX1200 and HX1200i units with LOT codes in range between 2030* and 2041* may exhibit motherboard compatibility issues, entitled for advanced RMA, source.
[6] Early EVGA G3 revisions had issues with out-of-spec performance under overload.
[7] Older Seasonic Focus revisions (made before 2018) had transient sensitivity issues. Some new SKUs are not affected because they were released later (Seasonic Focus GM/GX/PX refreshes, Phanteks AMP, NZXT C/E etc.).
[8] Seasonic PRIME based units experience shutdowns with RTX3080/3090 (and possibly RX6900 XT) GPUs, especially ones with unlocked power limit like FE and ASUS Strix. It is recommended, if going with such units, to overprovision wattage, 1kW for RTX3080 and 1.2kW for RTX3090, or power-limit the GPU, or performing a 'dirty' fix of disconnecting a pin of 12V V-sense wire from PSU-side connector of 24-pin motherboard cable (courtesy of Jonny Guru). Units based on post-2018 revisions of Seasonic Focus platform and majority of units by other OEMs are not affected.

eBay is eBay. Got to look at seller rep etc.  it’s unlikely people will do bitcoin mining with 570s which makes things a bit simpler.  Make sure the card works correctly as soon as it arrives, etc..  this means testing the card to not only make sure it runs but that it’s actually a 570. (Verify memory size etc).  As far as malfunctions go it’s like anything else used.  You accept the product as working or you don’t.  If it breaks later that’s on you.

    re: ram
got to make sure it the right kind.  For a ryzen2 build the stuff needs to be ddr4.  3000mhz is about as slow as I’d willingly run on ryzen2 but it will work. 8gb is also on the low end.  Also there’s the only-one-stick single channel issue.  Memory speed, memory size, and stick count could combine to cause significant problems with machine speed.  It will work though.   You could try it and change it later if you wanted. Bird in the hand and all that.

C1 & c2?! Ohshit! Those are the two top vertebrae that support your skull.  You nearly became a quadrapalegic! (Unless of course you did in which case even more ohshit!)

what you are building is a fairly fast 4/8 1080p system.  Not that different from an intel 7800 system. I’m not super fond of these right now.  It’s a good bit faster than my current system but whether or not either will be able to play games at all in the future is a bit up in the air.   It will play those games you mentioned fine though.

A system of the power you describe shouldn’t cost $900.
In the interests of bringing down costs a bit on the system you described:
    gpu
The 1650 is not especially cheap. It’s main trick is that it’s extremely power efficient so it doesn’t need pcie power connectors. This means it can run in old or prebuilt boxes with no power comnectors.  This is not what you have. There is a premium for this.  Considering the size of your PSU and that you have no need of the other special tricks of nvidia which almost entirely have to do with non gaming stuff, a rx570 is just as fast or faster, is available for less money, but DOES need a power connector.  It’s less power efficient, but it’s cheaper, and you’re buying a PSU that has a power cable anyway, so there may be some money there.  570s are also old.  Could pick one up used and save even more. Taking a quick poke at eBay I’m seeing them for well under a hundred bucks. The 1650 does tricks you can’t use and have no reason to pay for.
    PSU
I don’t know how good that PSU is. It might be fine.  I don’t know.  I’m not a PSU guy. Such exist here.  PSU quality is all about reliability. The good ones take longer to fail (they all eventually fail) and is likely to do less damage to the rest of the system when it does (PSUs that fail often take at least part of the system with them)
there is a PSU tierlist on this site that might help
    MEMORY
I’m not seeing a memory choice at all.  Gonna need some memory.  Ryzen2 likes its memory fast
    MOTHERBOARD
Thats a pretty good if not very new motherboard.  Not cheap.  Has a lot of VRM.  More than you need for a 3100.  Planning a cpu upgrade in 2021?  Might need one.  That whole thing is up in the air atm.  It will depend on the devs for games yet unwritten.  If there’s no upgrade coming something a550 might make more sense.  A lot less VRM, but it’s VRM anything 3600 or smaller won’t use anyway. Might find $30+ that way.

I could try building you a better $900 system, but for the games you describe you don’t really need it. At least right now.  Video cards in general and what will be needed in 2021 all depends on what is in the new consoles so predicting the future, a normally near impossible task, is unusually difficult.  There’s a certain argument for build small and cheap because 2021 may be totally different. I don’t know whether to try to build you a 3600 system or not.  I don’t know if even THEY will work after the new console games come out.  There was a take apart of a PS5 recently that shows the cpu to be what might be what amounts to a 2700 with liquid metal TIM.  I’ve heard speed estimates though which imply it can’t be a 2700 though. I just don’t know.

Your config is good, at least for now. You can upgrade gpu if you have money, but you can also think about different path, not so obvious. I mean SOUND. Some good amplifier, good big floor stereo speakers, music card and you'll be better than 99% users. And it last for many years. I don't understand why so many users ignore sound and focus mostly on graphics.

If you want to jump into 1440p gaming, you would need a 2060 super minimum, probably a 2070 super for best experience overall. 1060 is a bit weak for graphic fidelity with 1440p. Everything else looks good overall to me.

poorkidbuild reacted to Divisiondoorway1 in Switching to samsung s20 from iphone
I was curious to see peoples thoughts between the two phones, before I owned a LGG6. I really wanted to try getting an iPhone I bought into the hype of the iPhone 11, and now I kind of hate my phone simple things like transferring my music from my computer to my phone has become a frustrating process of downloading iTunes and still not getting it to work the way I want. I hate it when you open apple music, to play music you own and it gives you an ad to their subscription of apple music premium. Long story short I want to go back to android but not if its going to be a worse experience. I saw Linus made a video about why you should get the s20 ultra, but with trade in and promotional offers I can get the s20+ for 499 which I don't mind. I use metroPCS and want to make sure the phone works on my network I know samsung works on their network hence why I looked at this phone. Any thoughts or words of advice from S20 owners, maybe even people who did something similar?

Now there's some bad advice if I ever saw some.

There are other reasons to get a 3080 other than for 4k gaming. For example, if game devs decide to implement more of the ray tracing features into games, you're going to greatly benefit from the extra performance over the 3070 (we all know Minecraft with full ray tracing only runs ok at 1080p with view distance lowered with an RTX 2080ti, and don't even attempt to run additional mods on top of it). We've only seen the beginning of RTX potential in other games, so to just assume that an RTX 3070 is all anyone needs if they're not planning on playing at 4k is a very poor way of thinking.
