Only if one is doing games and other graphically intensive apps. Most coding, including web intensive stuff doesn't require more than an iGPU.

Yeah the 4.3 is a gas motor. Its a 350 with two less cylinders. Unbalanced as hell, leak oil everywhere, but reliable. I liked mine when I had it.

Don't plan for that far out but your going to anyways so I would recommend watching the ltt minecraft server videos, with over 50k people you will have to do multiple minecraft servers there is no system I know of that can support that many people at one time on one server.

50k users is pretty unrealistic. I need to ask, have you ever operated a hosting server business before? This sounds like a teenager's pipedream.

I'd get a 4 bay and not worry about the cache. The network will be the limit almost all of the time, and the drive setup is way over kill for a few 4k streams.

I'd go raid 5 over 10 here if it was me too.

I'd try to get a company to help you that has experience with setting up networ storage for video editing. Thats gonna save you a lot of time tweaking and configurating the system yourself, and these companies have a lot of experience of setting up systems like this, much more than most people online.

That is a single slot card so it will probably run hot, be loud, or both but it dose look like a decent price.

As you can see there's nothing available for your needs within the budget. Have you looked at the used market in your region?

Yeah it tends to be the pitch of the fans, I suffer from tinnitus which seems to stem from being highly sensitive to higher pitch noises.

I'm one of those people who could walk past a room and tell you if the CRT TV was on, because I could hear from some distance the whine.  Thankfully mostly not had issues with coil whine in PSUs (well technically most do but aren't audible from a distance), I did have one awful motherboard that started to whine and made the PSU whine too, fortunately within the first month so returned it.

My surround receiver whines in standby but I mostly only notice it when the room is quiet.

But back to OP, I'd be wary of anything cheap as its going to be noisy and its always a bad idea to cheap out on a PSU as if its poorly made it can take out your whole PC when it dies.

Use two of the drives in RAID 1 and then use the 3rd drive as a backup that you take off-site when you are not using it.

Depending on your electricity costs an older enterprise system might be more expensive in the long run. Do you really need the power of a socketed CPU or would a efficient Atom or ARM board be enough? Do you need to transcode?

    Absolutely horrifying.

That open electrical panel with all the wire bunches coming out of it is an electrocution and fire hazard.

I applaud your use of a backup system and your DIY spirit but I don't condone such dangerous installations.

That looks like an old Dell XPS 720. Those were nice systems in their day. Does it still work? If so it's a shame to recycle it, unless you're passing it along to someone who would actually use it. And yes, Dell did occasionally use red boards for things, including some motherboards and Dell OEM graphics cards.

That's a BTX system. It was somewhat common in the 2000s, especially in OEM systems. Dell loved using BTX boards, and the entire OptiPlex line was BTX based for ~5 years or so. HP also used them, and some other manufacturers did as well.

The cooler mounting on Dell BTX systems wasn't too bad from my experience, and it made for easy cleaning. I serviced a fleet of BTX Dell OptiPlex systems several years back, and I needed to pull the coolers out to clean them more thoroughly. Two screws and it hinges out of place.
