  1. Unfortunately, you will be hard pressed to find any cable modems for less than the $150-200 range that are capable of gigspeed (unless you buy a refurbished unit, or find a used one for sale), and I would check with your ISP first to find out what modems (aside from their own rental units) are compatible with their system. Most out there are certified for Cox, Spectrum, and xFinity, and while it is possible that they will work with your ISP, there is no guarantee. I personally have a Netgear CM1000.. I've seem refurbished Netgear CM1100's for sale on for $129, but again, I would check with your ISP before committing to a purchase.
  2. I use Isopropyl Alcohol and Q-tips, gets the job done easily and cleanly
  3. As an owner of two nVidia Shield Pro boxes (2017 pro & 2019 pro), I can say for sure, that these units, although expensive, Are definitely the way to go if you want to have an android TV box that will pretty much handle anything you throw at it. I have had several Chinese off brand TV boxes and none of them really did very well... I stream my media library from my NAS to both units in the house with no codec issues or lag/stutter at all, stream live TV via Sling TV, Netflix, CBS all access, and Disney+, play android games butter smooth, and occasionally play a game using Geforce now or Gamestream.. As for replacing your cable company, Youtube TV, Sling TV, Hulu, as well as several others, Are great options for cable TV replacement, they cost far less than cable (especially comcast) but you may not get every channel you had with the cable company. I would suggest shopping around with the different IPTV providers/streaming services before you commit. I have sling TV, and though I do not have the premium channels like HBO, showtime, etc. etc., I do have a decent amount of channels including a good amount of my local channels (the major networks) for right around $40 USD per month.. They have two base packages to choose from, or you can get both together (so technically 3 options), plus several ala carte options for adding additional channels on top of what ever base package you go with. The ONLY thing you need to consider beyond this, is whether or not you have a data cap with you ISP, as streaming, especially with multiple devices, CAN eat into that data cap every month, and if you are sheltering in place, could exceed your limits which in turn, obviously, would raise your bill with your ISP. As with most things, getting started and buying the gear is usually the most expensive bit, but can in the long run save you a few bucks down the line. I hope this give you some food for thought.
  4. What Shield TV do you have? 2015, 2017, 2019? Is it the pro, or standard version? I have both a 2019 pro and a 2017 pro, and it works with both the slim remote and the new "Toblerone" style triangular remote.. you might need to temporarily connect a USB mouse to the unit so you can navigate the menu and place the Shield into search mode so it can find the remote.. I believe that's what I did when I bought my new one for my 2017..
  5. Just by reading your post... here are my two cents, for what it's worth.. Firstly, If you only have a single case fan (which I hope isn't the case), you should probably consider adding additional fans to increase the air flow though the case (if you are able) .Fan air flow has a factor in the overall temps of the system.. my system, the way I have it configured pumps hot air out of the back with a single fan, as well as 4 120mm fans at the top to pull more heat out of the case (as we all know heat rises) with an additional 3 in the front to pull air into the system.. there are many schools of thought on negative pressure VS positive pressure airflow on a PC case, and there are many valid points to each line of thinking... What works for some, may not work for others.. I know that the 3080 pumps out massive heat when a load is applied to the GPU so that could be another factor... then there is the possibility that there might be a void between your heatsink and your CPU, it might be a simple issue of there not being enough thermal paste applied, or it might have been too thick or too thin when applied. the type of thermal paste you use is also another factor to consider. My system isn't as high powered as yours, but I run in temps of 70-75c (CPU) on full load and around 40-45c on idle... I hope my thoughts on this give you some help in possibly diagnosing the issue.
  6. Heya Spectrum? so I'm guessing from the post on the folding month thread by MISTERDIEABETIC referencing me means that my points during the even mean nothing and I'm not getting any credit towards the event? I entered it almost a month before it started.. I was not aware there was some issue with my entry, or that something went wrong... I sent him a message on thursday but it appears even though he's been on, he has not bothered to respond to me..

if I'm not getting credit toward the event, that sucks big time, but it still won't stop me from folding, I've been doing it off and on for years along with the seti@home program, but lost access to my original accounts (BOINC included) and had to create a new one about 8 or so months ago..

What do you mean by credit? Of course you get the Points you fold towards your account and you will even be eligible for an event badge.

I'm the one who runs the event, you're best dropping me a message if there is an issue :)

I'll try My best to get it sorted for you but I'm limited in what I can do obviously.

  7. I'm still hunting for a decent one myself.... Stay away from the Respawn RSP-110... I've had 3 now in the last few months and every single one of them has had a defect of one kind or another.. the most recent one I have is a perfect example... the armrests specifically, the foam cushioning has compressed and will not release, causing huge dents/divots in the armrests making them very uncomfortable to rest my arms on (bear in mind, I'm not a huge person, 5'10" @ 177lbs..) the hinge system for the reclining feature also is poor quality and slips when in an upright position if you happen to lean back against the chair while sitting, and the foot rest seems very flimsy and I am hesitant to use if for fear of breaking it off the chair.. at $180 USD for a "gaming chair" I would expect better workmanship from the company, but it does not surprise me in this day and age.. quality chairs are hard to find these days unless you spend over $300+ for one.. I'm starting to lean toward purchasing a mesh chair.. specifically the Hyken Mesh Task Chair from staples... granted, it doesn't recline, and it does not have a foot rest (two features I was looking for initially and found with the respawn chair) but at this point, I can live without those features as long as I have a decent chair that's not going to go to crap on me within a month of ownership.
