I hate to derail this thread even more, but Darwinism is taught in schools because it's the most prominent scientifically backed up theory of evolution. Are there alternate explanations? Sure, but the burden of proof lies with those that wish to change the modern view of Darwinism. If you want, you can go to a private school where Creationism will hold more value than a public school, but much of biology is based around the concept of non-Creationist evolution. Actually, Westernized schools outside of the USA seem to have a lot less of a problem portraying evolution as the truth as we know it.
