I think my 4 year old EVGA P2 650 just died. The system simply wouldn’t power on at all after shutting down the day before. Power would be delivered to devices connected to the case USB ports but that was it. No Mobo lights come on, no debug led, no fans, no response at all when pushing the power button. Here’s what I’ve tried so far with no effect:
Different power cord
Different outlet
Removed GPU
Removed RAM
Cleared CMOS
I also swapped in an OCZ ModXStream 550 from another system and plugged that in. Before clearing the CMOS, this also wouldn’t power on. After clearing the CMOS, the system powered up and posted fine. Also posted fine with RAM reinstalled. Swapped back to the 650 P2 and same issue as before.
Basedon this, it seems pretty certain that the PSU is dead. However, the PSU fan turns on when using the self-tester that EVGA supplies.
Is there anything else I should check that could have contributed to this failure or have I done everything to isolate it to a PSU failure? Also, should I be concerned about using my 11 year old OCZ ModXStream 550 in this system while I wait for a replacement? Here are my system specs:
i7-6700k
Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3
MSI R9 380x (4 gb)
2 x 8gb Corsair Vengeance (can’t recall speed)
480gb OCZ Trion 150
Win 10 (64 bit)
Thanks in advance for the help!
