Spend 5k and use the other 5k a few years from now on a new CPU and GPU.
You'll be wasting a lot of money if you try to spend all 10k on a PC.

Zenith_X1 got a reaction from Kozouki in What is the difference of the gpu between brands?
If you search the review sites there are differences in performance that may arise from improved component quality, but it's rare that board partners offer anythibg significant over their competitors.  However, high quality binned GPUs vary from base-level boards in their ability to overclock, which is why the completely unlocked EVGA 3090 Kingpin is several hundred dollars more than other 3090 options.

Top end cards are only worth it for extreme overclockers, or gamers with high performance custom water cooling loops that plan to run a moderately-high overclock for daily use.

I was having issues with restarts for a few years.  They were rare and only occured when I had youtube + a game running at the same time.  Eventually I updated the BIOS which tweaked the default power management settings, and after 3 months my system is crash free

Yup, my mobo issue is with my aging Z190 by Gigabyte.  Update from 2016 version 6 to newest version 22f from 2018 did the trick.  It has made me more diligent about BIOS updates going forward.  It also gave a more stable, higher OC.

I had something similar too... never happened in games.
was a new mobo (tomahawk max)
I think I tried updating the bios but failed due to MSI's insufficient instructions and sloppy programming (it just wouldn't work)

returned the board, issue is gone.

so either it was a faulty board, or faulty bios (more likely)

Games tend to prefer clockspeed on the CPU, so a newer CPU with a bunch more cores but slower clock speed may still lose to an older CPU with higher clocks.  Depends on how well the game is multi-threaded

I don't know that it's bad for Bethesda titles.  After Fallout 76 I have so little faith in Bethesda leadership that maybe Microsoft's pressure with force them to reconsider their approach for Starfield and TES:6.  If Bethesda makes another terrible experience for its customers, it will look bad on Microsoft and XBOX simultaneously which would be a PR nightmare

    Zenith_X1 got a reaction from Tan3l6 in 3080 for 1440p at 60Hrz
1440p 60Hz might mean the 3080 is overkill in all but the newest titles.  3080 can make use of much higher refresh rates, which I think many of us would argue are preferable to gaming at higher resolution.  Do consider a 1440p 144 Hz monitor in the future paired with a 3070.  The savings from getting 3070 instead of 3080 will help you get a higher refresh rate monitor.

3080 can get you into the 90+ FPS range at the far more demanding 4k, so it will shred 1440p like nothing, giving you a literal "Monitor Bottleneck" in which your CPU and GPU are both held back by your display

Zenith_X1 got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in Since when did Resolution Scaling become a thing?
200% resolution scaling just means supersampling.  Native shouldnt look quite this bad unless you're running a bad antialiaser like FXAA that blurs to achieve smoothness, but yeah if you supersample the AA effect will be drastically reduced.  200% also means that you are now rendering at a resolution that completely eclipses your 1080p panel.

Try a 1440p or 4k panel and run TAA, MSAA, or turn AA off

Zenith_X1 reacted to Moonzy in Buy parts now while waiting for Ryzen 4000x?
CPU Mobo and RAM comes in a set, it's not a great idea to buy them separately
    1) not sure what RAM speed is sweet spot for zen 3
    2) not sure what new features are on new mobo, might be compelling to you

GPU, Casing, Storage, and PSU can be bought early, but only if you can verify they work while within the return period.
and it's not recommended to buy more than a few weeks earlier due to warranty period just being burnt off
but they can be a compelling buy during sales

I can't recommend spending $200 extra for a GPU that might see no benefit at 1080p, so I'm glad to hear you are looking at 1440p.  1440p would benefit from a 3080 more than a 3070

Buying a 3080 for 1080p resolution is like buying an LS7 engine for a Toyota Camry at this point.

This is true. Pci 3rd gen 10900k is giving more performance than a ryzen 4th gen in digital foundry's review. Hence my confusing and disappointment with the review.

Why would you use a 3950X for the test bench? Or rather, why only a 3950X, and not also a 10700K/10900K to see whether Nvidia's claim that "a faster CPU still is more important than PCIe 4.0" holds true (which it does)?

It was already known that Zen 2 holds back the 2080Ti even at 1440p, if not lower-end SKUs as well, so imo the testing methodology for gaming benchmarks made no sense. Just like including CS:GO in the benchmark suite, which is known to be a mostly CPU bound title regardless of resolution, making the CPU choice even more questionable.
