  1. Hey guys I'm a freshman IT student and our professor tasked us to make a POS System I want to make a temporary name for my JLabel so that I can just change the value when I call the method of the formula but its not working because it treats the name of the temporary variable as a String (I declared it as a String cus idk what else to declare it xd) Main method code: Method code with the formula that I want to call: What I'm trying to achieve: I placed a JLabel with the square thingy as the text ("") and I want to change its color depending on the value of the stock... It would basically act as a status indicator for the stock
  2. I installed Valorant and it told me to enable secure boot in order to play the game... After I did my pc wont boot anymore... Things I tried: -removing cmos battery overnight -unplugged all unnecessary things (keyboard, mouse, drives etc.) -tried every combination of ram placement I cant boot to bios... Gpu and ram leds turn on... Gpu fans turns on and off endlessly on a loop... Monitor is blank with an orange led... Its usually blue... I sent the motherboard ram and cpu back to the shop i bought them since theyre still under warranty... They cleared them and it booted to bios... Only suspect left is the gpu... Is it possible for a gpu to not be read by the system just by tinkering with the bios? Isn't removing the cmos battery supposed to fix it since it resets everything? I am yet to try the gpu on anither system since I dont have friends (i mean... look at my name) Assuming the gpu works just fine and is just not read by the motherboard... What do I do to fix it? Since it booted in the shop im guessing some gpus works on the motherboard and something about mine is the issue... Specs: Ryzen 5 5600X Sapphire RX 580 8gb 16gb 3600mhz ddr4 Gigabyte a520m ds3h
  3. Hi... i'm not really good with networking stuff... all I've been able to do so far is buy a 3rd party router and stream videos from my pc to my phone via VLC... Earlier today we had no internet and I wanted to watch some content on my phone but VLC won't open the SMB folder for some reason... it just keeps on loading... It's working fine now that the internet is back... Why is this happening? I can still browse and watch the files through FTP... only VLC is dead when the internet is down... Is there a setting to fix this? Or is it just how VLC works... I want to watch on VLC because it's the only player (that I know atleast) that automatically enables subtitles... If you know any better players (aside from MX) pls do comment...
  4. I don't know if I'm in the right category but I don't see any emulation category... Can the new chromecast stand long gaming hours? I mostly play SNES games using RetroArch and was wondering if it would overheat... 6-8 hours of gameplay...
  5. Hi guys... Any of you know whats wrong with this? I don't think the display itself is damaged because it still lights up and the pixel has color... Its just faded... Is it possible to just remove the top layer? (I think its just an anti glare film thingy) If so... Whats the best way to do it? Hobby knife? Or should I disassemble first? VID_20210125_164856.mp4
  6. Hi guys... I'm trying to learn this networking thing... Starting with routers... Why do some routers with a gigabit port have a wireless speed higher than a gigabit? Isn't it gonna be bottlenecked by the wired gigabit port? Is the speed beneficial on wireless to wireless only? Is it because multiple users can connect to the wireless port? (I'm thinking maybe the router has a max 2000mbps on wireless and there are 4 people connected... They're only gonna get 500mbps each?) Will the bandwidth even be divided? If so... Is it gonna be equally divided or is there a setting to allocate it? I'm planning to make a simple freenas plex media server on an old laptop... I'm on the market for a router (the isp provided one somehow have the wired and wireless on a different network? Also only 1 port is activated)... And was thinking if i should splurge on a router based on the speed or some other fancy features... What router speed do you guys think i need if i'm just streaming 1080p anime with like max 3 devices streaming on it? If theres anything i got wrong... Please feel free to correct me... I'm still trying to learn and any feedback would be nice...
  7. Oof... Was hoping it would... Guess I'll read on the pi thing now... Thanks...
  8. My router has no USB port... Is there a way to connect my external drive to router? Is it even usable? (Thinking if it doesn't have a usb port it doesn't support drives at all?) Also can I just use one of these? (Pic attached)
  9. I actually haven't checked... I was just testing it earlier and the PC was idle when I got those speeds... Will check tomorrow (in a few hours) haven't slept yet and it's already 5am xd
  10. Hi guys... I don't know much if any about networking... All I know is that I want to access files from the family PC from my Android phone (only 1 PC in the house and I want to watch my movies from my phone while my brother is using it) I did achieve it by using windows' folder sharing thingy... Now the problem is I'm only getting 4-8 MB/s transfer speed... I would like it to be faster... What should I do? Upgrade the PC? Upgrade the router? Buying a NAS or other storage solution isn't an option (I can't possibly convince my parents to buy one xd) FX-4300 RX 580 8gb Xiaomi Mi Wifi 4C
  11. this is actually quite nice and fast... but is there a way to also access the sd card of my phone? it only reads the main storage
  12. What's the fastest way to transfer files wirelessly for free? I'm still saving up for a NAS...
  13. Hi, I'm sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong category... I was gonna post it on the laptop category but I thought that the opinions of the people here would be more valuable... I'm gonna be an IT freshman this March and was looking for a laptop... I don't know what I should be prioritizing... 1. Are "programming" programs cpu or gpu intensive? 2. How much ram do I realistically need? 3. Is storage size irrelevant? 4. Can I use a chromebook? (Do Windows apps work on chromebooks?) 5. Will I ever get a girlfriend? Any input will be appreciated... Also if you could recommend a laptop that would be nice... Budget is around 500 freedom pebbles... Sorry if my English is bad... England is not my city...
  14. sorry... i don't know if i posted in the right section... but i made one in the programming section and i don't know how to transfer so im just gonna post a link to the post...
