Doqtori got a reaction from Ben17 in valorant on linux?
Very, very, very unlikely it'll ever work thx to Vanguard. Unfortunetly, it's also very likely that all Riot games will stop working once they implement it into the other games as well.

Doqtori reacted to Luis Javier in Cleanest desktop environment for linux
I would suggest you to change distro instead of changing the desktop enviroment of pop os, as not everything will work fine, you can make it work with some tinkering but for the "I will probably switch to Manjaro once I get better with linux" I assume you are not a power user of linux, so change distro or use a theme that fits your concept of clean. I would suggest you to try elementary os, wich for me is very clean and is debian based as pop os.

Doqtori reacted to airborne spoon in Can someone tell me what kind of adapter I need for this plug?
I've never, in any context heard of plugs referenced in "type A - N". I work with electricians and have wired up houses and all kinds of electronics for more years than i can remember.
Plugs/outlets are either called by their proper name NEMA 1-15 in the case of the OP picture or for what you want to call a "type B" is a NEMA 5-15.
Or people call them by the countries they are mostly associated with like a NEMA 5-15 is north america, BS 1363 for England, BS 4573 europe, NZS 3112 for australia and asia. Just my .02 on naming conventions with electricity.

Doqtori reacted to FibonKylix in How can I download a bit for bit identical copy of a Youtube video?
Could you maybe email the channel, explain why the video is important to you and why you need a copy of it and ask them if they could send it to you? It is their property after all.

Doqtori reacted to GoDiegoGo in Nintendo issues CnD to tournament organizers for using "project slippi" an emulation mod allowing a 20 yr old game to be played online
Summary
Nintendo issues a cease and decease order against super smash Bros tournament franchise "the big house" due to the use of fan made technology that allowed their 20 yr old game to played online using rollback netcode.
Quotes
My thoughts
Nintendo is once again flexing their legal arm against the use of modding and emulation of their software. One reason this is important is because its happening during a global pandemic and this fan made tool allows an event that hosted 3000 people the previous year in 2019 to be played online where people can be isolated. Also not only has Nintendo taken down the tournament but has also sent cease and desist to past tournaments that were already held to take down the YouTube and twitch recordings of the matches played with this technology. This can create a huge precedent for companies that want to be overprotective with their IPs to crack down on gaming communities that thrive with the use of modding and emulation as well as the implications of how much control can a game publisher have in the context of eSports. A similar incident happened 2 years ago with Toei and Capcom and the game Dragonball fighterZ

Doqtori got a reaction from Artify in Optiplex Gaming PC
I bought a Optiplex 9010 for ~100€, + a monitor for free. You want to look for ones that are sold by schools/businesses, they'll usually be sold in a lot, but if you contact them, you may be able to get a single tower by asking. If you buy one from like Ebay, you'll most likely be buying it from someone who bought one of those lots, and is reselling them, so you'll end up paying more.
What I want to note, is that even the mini-tower models are quite small, and if you do decide to go for a beefier GPU, you need to make sure it's not too long (I ended up chopping off my HDD bay).
Also doing bigger upgrades (such as new mobo, new case, or smth like that) is difficult and you need to do them at once since Dell uses proprietary stuff for things like the power button and USB ports.

Doqtori reacted to LinasJ in PC in a car living. Will it break? How to do it safely? Will GPU wooble and break?
I sold my house to pay my wifes debt and right after i did that she left me. Even better, her family bought that house and offered to rent it to me.
So I'm forced to live in a car trough the winter. My job is fully on pc, so how can I build Car pc?
I'm afraid that GPU will break while driving. Can I build it not standing but laying? Will GPU mounting bracket hold my pc for at last 6-12 months till I have possibility of recovering?
Is portable monitors a thing?

Doqtori reacted to dasbene in EU governments plan to ban secure encryption
Summary
Like many before them the Goverments of the EU states want to enforce access to encrypted communication.
Extract from the draft
The bold parts of the document are the latest changes after an terrorist attack in vienna. For prevention of this a backdoor in encrypted coomunication was not needed.
My thoughts
I am annoyed by another try of a regulatory body to ban effective encryption. These backdoors can be miss used or leak to goverments or organizations that are not trustworthy. Its difficult enough to keep the ship of encryption afloat without someone wanting to drill holes into it.

Doqtori reacted to lazypc in Apple cuts off supplier Pegatron for student labor violations
Summary
After finding violations and falsified paperwork concerning it's student labor program, Apple has cut off major supplier Pegatron from any new contracts.
Quotes
My thoughts
We hear Linus speak fairly often on going to manufacturing facilities to inspect working environments concerning merchandise, and I know it is a practice that is becoming more standard with imported goods. But, rarely does it seem like any violations or corrective actions make the news. So I appreciate knowing when inspections do actually find something and what is being done to correct it. Not an Apple fan... but kudos

Doqtori reacted to tim0901 in Your debt collectors may soon be adding you on Facebook
Agreed. I cant see how ignoring their messages is any worse than ignoring their calls. Blocking them online is also substantially easier than blocking the number they call you from, which is far easier to change.
The fact that this opens another avenue to be used by scammers is more scary to me (although I imagine they were already doing this to an extent anyway).
