  1. I have a Lenovo Y27q 20 that I do everything on and want to get a second monitor. I never thought I would want a dual monitor setup, but I'm finding I'm tired of alt + tabbing on projects lately. Does it really matter what I get or should I get a monitor with similar specs? Thank you!
  2. I ordered a new mini-pc that I plan to try OPNsense on. I been using pfSense for about five years now. The more I think about it, I do like the idea of just having an AP out of the box and not have to mess with configuring OpenWRT. I just need to find one with an ethernet port out to feed my daughters computers that's in the general location of the existing AP she runs off of hardwired.
  3. You make a good point. I'll have to take a closer look at those. Thank you!
  4. Well I have it set up as a good ol dumb AP. I already had it and I knew I could put OpenWRT. At one time I was using it as a router but after I got into pfSense I converted that nighthawk to the dark side.
  5. Coil whine seems to be getting worse and it's annoying. I'm gonna have to find a replacement soon.
  6. Productivity software, games and occasionally compiling from source.
  7. I been using the Netgear R7500v2 as an AP for several years now. I use it inline with my pfSense router and a cisco sg300 switch. I know its getting a bit old and its time to upgrade. Whats a newer router yall are running OpenWRT on that won't break the bank?
  8. This is my parts list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/jaisonb/builds/#view=Gvt8TW Just wondering if you think there were any worthy upgrades for this AM4 system. Thanks.
  9. 1: Daughter has Win 10. I set her up to use Firefox with uBlock Origin plugin. Just today she couldn't watch videos until i disabled for the YouTube site. 2: I have Fedora. I am using Firefox and uBlock too. YouTube isn't prompting me to disable the ad-blocker. I can watch ad free with no problem. Why the difference between the two?
  10. I have a T14 Gen 1 AMD. I have the model with Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U and 16GB onboard ram. I added another 16GB of crucial ram. It's been about two years since I bought it. Back in August I started having browser crashes. I ran the Lenovo diagnostic utility which resulted in a failed memory test. I pulled my stick out and ran the test again which still failed. I backed up my drive with PartedMagic. I opened up a repair ticket September 1st. I received my shipping box September 8th. I sent it in and they did their thing. I got it back September 19. The work order receipt said they replaced memory. I really didn't think much of it. Later that day or the next day, I booted up PartedMagic and it was awfully slow. Something wasn't right. I ran another diagnostic and wouldn't you know that the memory test failed. I opened it up to pull the stick of ram. My memory I bought was gone! In its place was 8GB ramaxel. September 20th I called in to tech support and I stated my concern about the missing memory and the memory test failure. Dude said he's going to email the depot. A week later I haven't heard from anyone. I then went to the site to look at my ticket and saw an option to escalate unresolved service. September 28th I get an email from a case manager Rosemary regarding my case about the missing ram. I was told the depot had been notified and they would need some time to research the repair case. October 3rd I get another email from Rosemary that they will replace the memory and to verify my shipping address. I replied back but in my mind I am saying you folks have my address. I hear nothing more. October 10th I get a phone call from Delfina checking up on the case. We talked a bit. She asked to reply back to her email with the exact model of my missing stick of ram. Bam! They purchased it from a 3rd party and I got it the next day. That same day I received it, the depot was shipping out a replacement that I returned. Sweet! I got my memory but I still have an onboard memory problem. Here we go again. I opened up another ticket October 12th. I wasn't waiting for a box, so I just paid to get it there. They received it October 17th. I got it back October 27th. They replaced the system board. My plan was to put my ram in and restore my drive, but wouldn't you know that I cant eject the sim card tray that I need to remove to access the inside. I'm sure I could get inside but being under warranty still, I don't want to break anything. No more memory failures though! I been sitting on this wondering what to do. I tried reaching out to support and escalating it but I haven't heard anything. I can't believe it myself.
  11. True. They did replace it with a 60GB mSata Amazon renewed drive and apologized they were on a business trips.
  12. https://www.newegg.com/dogfish-ssdnow-ssd-64gb/p/0D9-00AP-00023?Item=9SIAG9J7CW7416 They finally got back to me today. I purchased it for $26 a couple years ago for my DIY pfSense router. I know it's not a lot of money, but a warranty is a warranty. The drive failed and it should be honored.
  13. They say you get what you pay for but there weren't many affordable options for mSata at the time I ordered it. Had a drive failure in my pfSense router. I tried to work with them, but I received no more responses.
  14. if you go into the UEFI and go to the boot screen, you should be able to see which one it is. You can also create a live usb of something like https://gparted.org/. in the gparted program there's a drop down on menu on the top right. Select the drive and you should see partitions similar to my screenshot. Remove a drive then refresh to see if its still there or not.
  15. Yeah. I'll probably upgrade it soon. Speaking of this AIO, pcpartpicker had a note on it"Note: The EVGA CLC 280 113.5 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard." Any idea what they are talking about?
  16. Knowing my luck, it probably is. It has been holding steady in the PCIe4 slot though. Definitely have some backups. That's what I thought.
  17. I forgot what a hot rats nest these corsair rgb fans were.
  18. Trying to figure this out and it seems a lot of folks seem to use raid in a nas.
  19. By chance does ASRock have software like EVGA Precision or maybe that will still work? I actually have to enable mine again because of the last time i updated the BIOS the other day.
  20. You're right. It is sagging. I never noticed it as I look downwards on it. Yikes.
  21. What CPU do you have? I remember when I had a Ryzen 2700x it wasn't compatible.
  22. I went from 2700x to 5800x when the 5800X3D wasn't around.
  23. They say NAS isn't a backup but I'd probably sync mine too if I had one.
  24. I had a hard drive fail recently just a month outside the five year warrant. Go figure! So I had to open her up to extract it. Its clear that I need to do some cleaning since its been about two years. Are any suggestions on making things a bit more tidy? Its the 4000d airflow case. I have the four corsair LL120 fans and the evga aio and its fans that came with it. As far as drives go. I have the two nvme(windows and storage) and two ssd(Fedora and backup to my old backup). I thought about getting different fans but maybe I'll just keep them and replace the aio ones. Also the power cable going to the graphics card drives me nuts because it blocks some of the rgb. Thanks in advance.

    thermal pads

So it there a data base somewhere with information on thermal pad sizes that graphics cards use? It might come in handy for those that want to redo their thermals but don't have a supply on hand at home and that way the end user knows what to order.
