OxideXen reacted to Techstorm970 in Nvidia App goes beta
The convenience of having everything in the same place is what I'm excited about.
Otherwise, hard agree. Utility apps can look like Windows 95 for all I care as long as it actually works as advertised.

Because it just works. What is wrong with it other than it looks old? And how would a new one fix that?
And the beta one is everything I hate about modern UI design.

OxideXen reacted to Uttamattamakin in OpenAI unveils "Sora." A prompt-based short video generator with amazing results
The obvious implications for all content creators really might be an issue. There will be deep fakes of adult content and people doing it who never did. For that matter.... remember the Endless Seinfeld forever "show". There could be a version of that that looks as good as an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Endless Curb Your Enthusiasm.

OxideXen reacted to creat0r in OpenAI unveils "Sora." A prompt-based short video generator with amazing results
So much AI generated videos of political figures saying things they never said will surface when these models can generate audio. Humanity will just universally have to agree to never trust anything shown on video anymore. Imagine if Russia made an AI video of Biden saying he'll begin bombing Russia in 5 minutes to fuel the Russian people to protect themselves from a threat that doesn't exist, and therefore start a war. Police will no longer be able to use video tapes as proof of anything, since it might just be AI generated.

I don't know. I knew a person who was basically a Sociopath in terms of not understanding empathy. Did some horrible stuff and didn't even know it was wrong. Admitted to everything and was confused as to why he was in trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't a similar situation or some other reason that has little to do with book smarts.

Work in my sleep? They can fuck right on off with that idea.

OxideXen reacted to Agall in It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...UltraRAM - New experimental NAND that can do literally everything
I'm going to guess it's in the metric of MB, which doesn't mean it's useless even now. Having your OS built into the SoC using this stuff for some products would be useful in some cases, practically a more useful EEPROM. Entirely negate the necessary for DRAM and L3/L4 cache in an SoC if its fast enough to act as L3 cache.

Don't see any mention of capacity, probably for a reason.

OxideXen reacted to Fasauceome in In military simulation, AI-enabled drone kills its own operator [Update: USAF issued clarification that no tests performed; 'hypothetical scenario']
We need to dispense with the idea that somehow a machine at the helm will be flawless. Any machine built by humans will contain flaws, because humans are flawed, and cannot make flawless systems. Problems like this with future development are inevitable

OxideXen reacted to OhioYJ in Experimental Youtube "feature" detects and blocks some users of ad blocking browser extensions on Youtube
If a site doesn't work with ad blockers I just leave.
All I see this doing is creating a increase in YouTube piracy.

Yep. Game of cat and mouse - Tom and Jerry. It will never end.

OxideXen reacted to Uttamattamakin in I'm Stepping Down..
The whole point of owning a company is to reach a point where you don't have to run it anymore ... BUT can make big decisions. So basically Linus is the Rupert Murdoch of LMG now. So Linus and Yvonne own it, they're the bosses, but won't be bossing anyone around full time anymore.
So good for you Linus you're living the dream.

OxideXen reacted to Ferkner in I'm Stepping Down..
He's still the owner. Now he can concentrate on the content creation part and not the CEO stuff.

OxideXen reacted to soldier_ph in Intel Rebranding "Core i" Brand to "Core Ultra"
Great, way to go Intel. Now you're gonna confuse non Techies and especially Techies even more with your utterly Stupid naming schemes. I really liked the "Core i" branding, imo it was legendary. Stop fixing things which actually work and you're better off investing that time into fixing things which are actually broken like your High End Chips which are a real Pain to cool.

OxideXen reacted to MageTank in You're gonna wanna brace yourself for this - GPU sag might be killing RTX cards
This has already been solved, ironically by Lian Li, the manufacturer of the O11 Dynamic, lol.
https://lian-li.com/product/gb-002/
This bracket is actually installed through the motherboard standoffs on standard ATX motherboards (the two bottom right standoffs). The bracket is adjustable both vertically and horizontally to avoid fans and contact the card itself.
This design is far more universal than the ones coming from card manufacturers since the ATX standard has been around for years. ITX or Micro ATX boards won't be able to use it, but you are far less likely to pair a 5lb 4090 with a micro or ITX board/chassis. At that point, I'd recommend the Bracing Retention Apparatus, or "BRA":

OxideXen reacted to da na in You're gonna wanna brace yourself for this - GPU sag might be killing RTX cards
Haven't 2080 series cards had VRAM problems for years? This is nothing new. Also, GPU sag is easily preventable with literally any moderately long stiff object

Next time I'd recommend actually reading it and trying to google for anything you didn't understand before sharing it, otherwise it opens up for the possibility of sharing fake news or other incorrect information to a wider group.
