  1. I have an HP 840 G10 laptop which has 2 Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports. I want to connect it to 2 QHD monitors (60 Hz refresh rate), USB mouse, USB keyboard, and ethernet cable with the fewest number of cables possible. One additional requirement, since Thunderbolt 4 supports DisplayPort alternate mode, I want to deliver the video to my monitors using the native signal and not rely on compression or external GPU in dock. Monitors support DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI, but not DisplayPort daisy chain / MST. What's the best solution for that configuration? Preferably cheap as possible, but meeting those requirements. 1 Gbps or even 100 Mbps ethernet is fine, I don't need anything faster.
  2. I have two ASUS PA278QV monitors connected to an HP 840 G5 laptop via display port. When the laptop goes to sleep and the monitors power off, the monitors will not wake up from sleep mode once the laptop restarts. I have to manually turn off the monitor and then turn it back on in order to get the monitor to display. Does anyone know of a setting to fix that? I'm not sure if it's an issue with the monitor or PC.
  3. I bought 2 ASUS-PA278QV QHD monitors that I am very happy with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088BC5HMM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_nmUPFbAQM7ZM8 Image quality looks amazing. I use it for productivity though and have never gamed on it. 2 monitors fit my use case well. I would have liked to have tried a 32" 4K monitor for a week or two, but I think 4K on 27" would be too small without scaling. You might want to look into this: : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J2C9MMD/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_LkUPFb4FQ955M I wish there was a place that let you try out monitors for a week or two. I spend so much time behind a monitor for work, I really want the best setup.
  4. My employer has given me $500 to spend on home office gear. I don't really need anything, but have been looking at a new monitor. I'm currently using an HP 2509m and a Samsung SyncMaster 2232BW+. Both are about 10 years old although I like the HP2509m. At the very least, I am thinking of upgrading the Samsung to a HP E243 that I have at work and like. I've also thought about just getting 2 and using them side-by-side like my current setup. That's probably the lowest-risk option. But I'm also looking at replacing both with a LG 34WN80C-B. I am a software engineer and only use my home office for work. Most of the time I have an IDE up in one display and a text editor, e-mail, or Youtube up on the other display. I have never used a wide or curved display to display 2 windows side by side. How do people like that setup vs 2 HD monitors side by side? Technically the 2 HD monitors would give me a little more horizontal real estate. Is a curved display really designed for productivity or better suited for gaming / single display? I also considered a 4K display, but not sure if 4K would be too much resolution. Any other displays that I should consider? I'd like to keep the cost close to my $500 allowance.
  5. First question, will a Galaxy S7 from Sprint that is unlocked work with any US mobile carrier? (Or at least the big 3 - ATT, Verizon, Sprint/TMobile) I have a Sprint S7 that is now unlocked and out of service. The current firmware is G930P. I heard that G930U is the universal firmware that will work with any US carrier. I even found some sources that claim to have the firmware such as here: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s7/firmware/#SM-G930U However, I don't think sammobile is an official part of Samsung. When I download firmware and drivers, I like to get them from the source and not be worried about infecting my device with a trojan. The reason I want to upgrade from the Sprint P version to the unlocked firmware is because I am selling the device and want it to work with any carrier without needing to have whoever buys it take it into their carrier to flash it...or is that irrelevant? Is it even worth doing? Also, there are some Sprint apps on the phone that cannot be deleted (hidden, but not deleted). I heard that the unlocked firmware does not have that bloatware crap. Is this worth doing or will the new carrier upgrade the firmware on the phone anyway? Should I just sell as is?
  6. Agree, I never had any trouble on my S7 with Google Maps. Although I mostly used Waze which I consider infinitely better at least for driving. I recently upgraded to the S9 and I kinda miss the S7. I liked the size of the S7 better and battery life was better too. Only thing definitely better on the S9 is the fingerprint sensor and camera is a little better. Not worth the upgrade in my opinion.
  7. My provider Sprint unlocked the phone for free.
  8. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 that I no longer need after phone upgrade and I plan to sell it on eBay or Craigslist. The carrier was Sprint and I have read online that a network-unlocked phone is worth a lot more. What's the cheapest way to network unlock the phone? Aside from wiping all my data off the phone, is there anything else I should do before selling it?
