Just look at the cooling. Only one fan (when literally every other gaming laptop in the market has two). No wonder it is thermal throttling/overheating.

You can try undervolting and repasting, but I doubt it will do much, since the root cause of the issue is the terrible cooling system.

Apple fanboys rationalized the iPhone 4 dropping calls and still bought it. Apple counts on their  logo doing all the talking. You could stick an apple logo on the worst knockoff and fanboys would still defend it and buy it at any price.

You think theyre a trillion dollar company because they make quality products? Its because they use lowest bidder manufacturing(Foxconn) and sell at a huge premium.

The kinds of people who buy this stuff know nothing about computers. Has been that way since Wozniak left Apple.

Most consumers are happy being fooled these days. Like Oscar Wilde said "Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing".

Very helpful. The SSD wasn't a problem when I got the machine and isn't really a problem now. I'm just looking to upgrade because I can. Not everyone needs a lot of storage.

970 EVO Plus does get hot. 60+ degrees when under a medium load for some time. I was not too confident to try 100% load for prolonged time when it reached near 70C.
Thats why I switched to 8200 Pro - with motherboard heatsink temps rarely near 50.

WD is often recommended for low to mid range builds because their blue series is one of the best for its price.

You know what also matters? Design flaws that break the machine fast.

    Like the following.

If your laptop is in a humid room, the display connector shorts out the CPU data pin to the Display VID pin and sends up to 52 volts to the CPU, killing it instantly.
The fuzes are low quality and never serve their function of saving any component when there is overload.
The TB3 controllers frequently fail and explode (literally, look at Rossmann for evidence)
The display flex cables are super fragile and tend to tear if you open it slightly more aggressively.
The internal power circuitry is routed via the keyboard and trackpad so if your tracpad has issues, the whole system fails. For comparison, most laptops can have the trackpad explode and still continue to work fine. Even 200$ chromebooks aren't this retardedly designed.
The cooling solution runs the CPU and GPU at 100*C so as to be thin which in turn causes damage over time and destroys them as anything over 90 is not safe for them long-term
The Apple customer support on offer is utter shit and you will get quoted 300-1000$ for their design flaws even if it's not your fault

Just, this is in 3000$ laptops. This is insane. Even 500$ Acer Aspire models are more durable, not to mention the military standards of business-class laptops like ThinkPads, EliteBooks or Latitudes.
Apple's laptops LOOK good but are absolutely terrible if you know the basics of electrical engineering or PCB design

The more I read, the more I'm stupefied that Intel doesn't have a better solution than "nerf every Intel chip." I decided to try my hand at undervolting my old 4810mq and it's crazy how much it improves thermals without impacting clock speeds at all. Well at least MSI seems to have let their users work around it.

    Thanks for the reply!

    I'm sorry, but I don't think that's enough for an i9 8950HK + Radeon Pro 560X combo.

pilot35 reacted to KenjiUmino in Does thermal throttling really affect the performance of the laptop? If so, how much?
reasons not to buy a thermal throttling laptop:

    - you will not get the performance you paid for
    - it possibly shortens the lifespan of your laptop
    - a thermal throttling laptop is a design failure and failure should not be rewarded

Time for you to learn a lesson: if you are buying a laptop and plan to use it for heavy workloads, research its thermals before buying. Notebookcheck, for example, does a reasonable job of looking at such.

pilot35 reacted to Wufflez in why are laptop hard drives so slow?
Laptop Hard drives run at 5400 RPMs. This is much slower than the already slow 7200 RPM. Laptop manufactorers won't put the 7200 RPM hard drives in their laptops because laptops are portable, and can be moved around. A 7200 RPM hard drive will fail very quickly (1 year or 2) if it's moved around frequently. Also 7200 RPM Hard drives consume much more power compared to 5400 rpm hard drives

One hour of battery life (light usage) is quite low. Have you tried checking the health of your battery? It may be defective. Ask razer if you can swap it out with a new one

Not to mention their customer service is one of the worst in the industry. That is why literally nobody here will recommend razer laptops
