  1. Hi guys I'm working for a company of around 500 people. We are currently looking to integrate lastpass enterprise into our business for both safety and convenience reasons. Does anyone use lastpass enterprise and could you give me a review / feedback on it? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hello guys, I recently went from windows 10 to linux (parrotos) as my daily driver. Although I can use linux for almost 90% of all the things I want to do, there are a number of things i want/have to use windows for. The "windows 10 Pro" virtual machine is installed on my first storage device (M.2) and needs access to my entire second storage device (the HDD). Is there a way to pass my hard drive directly to my "windows 10 Pro" virtual machine? If I edit the XML file from my "windows 10 Pro" Virtual machine like I do with my linux virtual machines I cant find the hard drive anywhere. Information: Linux distro: parrotOs Kernel: Linux parrot 5.9.0-2parrot1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.9.6-2parrot1 (2020-11-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux Virtualization technology: kvm version 5.2.0 First storage device: M.2 512GB Second storage device: HDD 1TB Solution: Linux virtual machines: 1) Go to the XML file of the virtual machine 2) Edit the file like below (change "source dev" to the device you want to add). Thanks in advance.
  3. First of all, thank you guys for all your helpful responses. I think I'm going to use KVM for my virtual machines but damn proxmox is looking very nice.
  4. Hello guys I have a lot of VM's spread over 2 computers and wanted to collect them on my server. Now I don't just want to store the files on my server but actually run the VMs on this server (so the VM's would use the CPU and ram from the server). As virtualization software, I'm using VMware. The only way that I know/have found to do this is if I set up my server as an ESXi host. My server is currently running Debian and I have already installed a few things on it so I don't really want to change the Os to ESXi. A solution I was thinking of running ESXi in a docker container but even if this is possible will this solution not extremely hurt the performance of the VM's? Do you guys know a better solution or has anyone tried this and know a guide that I can follow to achieve this? Information about the server: OS: Debian 10 CPU: 2x Intel® Xeon® Processor X5650 Memory: 9*8GB 1333MHz (72GB) storage: Currently I have 1 SSD (128GB) and 3HDD's(500GB each) in the system. The SSD is in raid 0, and the 3 HDD's are in raid5. Thanks in advance.
  5. @Jarsky Oke the shared network connection setting works then completely different from how I thought it would work. Thank you very much for explaining this.
  6. Hello guys, I have a HP Proliant ml370G6. Unfortunately, It didn't come with a regular ethernet port only the ilo2 port. From what I have read I should be able to use the ilo2 port for regular network traffic and network traffic intended for the ilo2 port. Each time I set the ilo2 port setting to shared network connection (see other settings in the image below) the traffic to the ilo2 port stops working and there is also no regular traffic possible (the ilo2 port does nothing). Does anyone know how I should configure the ilo2 port to use it for ilo2 network traffic and regular network traffic? system information: system: HP Proliant ml370G6 system ROM: P63 05/21/2018 ILO2 Firmware: 2.33 03/20/2018 OS: Debian 10 ILO2 port settings: DHCP/DNS settings: Thanks in advance.
  7. After some Thinking and reconsidering I don't think I'm going to use OMV. I was going to use it because a friend of mine showed it to me and it looked pretty cool but because I'm just starting to use Linux I will use a more know Linux version (Debian). Also, my backup works on Debian and I value a good backup (aka a backup I understand and have tested) over a cool looking interface that I'm probably not going to use as much. Maybe I will try again when I am a little more familiar with Linux in general. If you want to know this was the output of the 2 commands you suggested. I can't find anything that would interfere with my backup. @Wild Penquin Thanks for trying to help and investing your time.
  8. Hi @Wild Penquin Yes not creating a backup from the /boot and /etc/fstab directories is intentional because the system wouldn't boot if I included these. If I'm correct the only downside to not creating a backup from these directories is the fact that I will first have to install an operating system and then restore the backup. In openmediavault you have these things called plugins I thought that these were the same as packages unfortunately they are not. "Normal packages" (packages that you install with apt-get install package-name) are restored whit the backup. I think if I can find where these plugins are stored the backup should work. Thank you very much for your post because of this I took a new look at the operating system to understand it better and I found that plugins and packages are not the same.
  9. Thanks for your reaction. Clonezilla looks awesome but if I'm right I will not be able to automate this and run a daily backup without doing anything(sorry if this was not clear from my original post I will change it). In case there is a way please let me know .
  10. Hello guys I'm trying to create a backup of my Linux system in case it fails. From what I have read online the best / easiest option would be to first install the operating system and then restore a backup on the system. As backup solution, I want to use borgbackup because it is a deduplicating backup program (It will only store the changes so it is more storage-friendly) and it also encrypted the backup. I also want to create the backup over ssh so that I don't have to plug in an external hard drive each time I want to create a backup. The operating system I wish to backup is openmediavault 5.5.6. How I create the backup: Borg command to create the backup: How I restore the backup: 1) First, install the operating system on the system. 2) Plug the hard drive into a different system and cd into the hard drive. 3) Extract the backup onto the hard drive with the command below: The problem: When I restore the backup the folders and files I create are back but the programs plugins that I installed are still missing/not installed. How could I also backup all the programs plugins that I had installed on the system? What I want/need: 1) Full backup of Linux system. In case I need to restore I'm oke with first installing the operating system. 2) send the backup to a different device (probably using ssh). 3) Encrypted the backup with a password. 4) Automated the backup so that I never have to think about making a backup. 5) The backup solution should be a deduplicating backup program so that it is storage-friendly. Thanks in advance.
  11. In an another topic that I made about which hard drives to buy for my system the user @svmlegacy gave a very useful link. The link is a whitelist and blacklist for which hard drives to use in a lot of hp Proliant servers. This is no guarantee that these will work in your server but its better than nothing.
  12. Oke thanks. Well my headset that I have now are still working and I don't game as much so what do you recommend if I don't care about the gaming aspect?
  13. @BlueScope819 yep it's a real pain in the ass but it is what it is @svmlegacy yeah they are very picky. I had some drives but they were too hot for the system and it ramped it's fans up to 100% what was extremely loud. At this moment I have 3 WD drives (2 installed in my server and 1 in my desktop) all of these drives seem to stay between 33C-37C what is perfect for the server so that's the reason that I'm looking to buy from this brand. Could you be able to answer my following questions: 1) For what do you use your server And what is the effect of smr on your usage? 2) What are the temps that your WD drives are operating under? Thanks in advance. @Electronics WizardyThanks, I forget to look if the drives where smr sadly they are. So maybe I should buy 5x 1TB (WD Red Mobile WD10JFCX, 1TB) Or I should go SSD 2 x 2TB or 4 x 1TB. What do you think is the best? Should I set the SSD also in raid 5? SSD's have no spinning parts so they should not break so easily. I will update my original post with the new options. Thanks to all 3 of you guys for your reactions.
  14. Hello I'm in need of a few new hard drives for my server (HP proliant ml370G6). Because of some issues that I had with my server (fans ramping up to 100% link to topic). My hard drives need to stay around 40C or lower. I can insert 8 hard drives in my server. The hard drives need to be 2.5". The hard drives will be in raid 5 and will be used to store movies, series, virtual machines and backups (desktop, laptop and phone). Looking for 4-6TB of storage. My server will not be active all the time. Currently I'm thinking to buy 3-4 x "WD Blue WD20SPZX 2TB". Options: option1) 5x 1TB (WD Red Mobile WD10JFCX, 1TB) . These will be in raid 5 for a total storage of 4TB option2) 2 x 2TB (WD Blue SSD 2,5" (3D v-nand (TLC)) 2TB). These will NOT be in raid 5 for a total storage of 4TB option3) 4 x 1TB (WD Blue SSD 2,5" (3D v-nand (TLC)) 1TB). These will NOT be in raid 5 for a total storage of 4TB Thanks in advance.
  15. Hello, i'm looking for a new pair of headset because my current one is still working but it has some issues. I would like to replace them but i don't know which headset would be the best for me. I'm currently thinking about buying "Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless". All reviews about these and other headsets are welcome. The price doesn't matter as much because I will be using them daily I'm willing to spend quite a bit of money but probably not more than €300. Need: 1) Good sound Quality when listening to music/youtube/watching movies/series. 2) Wireless (would be nice if I also could use a cable probably for charging but use the headset at the same time). 3) Long battery life (12h+). 4) Good build quality. 5) Active noise canceling. Nice to have: 1) Good build in mic for meetings / when using discord / in game / phone calls. 2) Option to use cable (charge and use headset at the same time). 3) Button/touch to easily: lower/up volume, switch to next song, switch to speakers (could also be a shortcut on my keyboard. If someone has any idea how i could achieve this please let me know). 4) Surround sound when playing games like Counter-Strike Global Offensive would be nice. Extra question: My desktop doesn't have bluetooth. So a good usb to bluetooth adapter would be nice. Thanks in advance.
