  1. Hey Everyone, Not too long after exams I'm back home and enjoying the Christmas vacation, Eager to start gaming again I encountered the issue where I would drop frames lke crazy, lots of fps stuttering on the GTX 960. Recalling when the issue started was when I removed an 8Gb stick from my pc, so the problem had to be either the RAM or the mobo. Doing some more in depth research I found the cause of the problem which happened to be the OS itself and not the hardware. The pagefile or virtual memory in windows was too small. Not that the system didn't have enough RAM, I'd monitor the RAM usage and it would run up to 80%+ but doesn't justify the frame skips. Increasing the pagefile size fixed the issue, and the fps remains constant and stable upon doing so. I am quite sure if I throw more RAM into the system that would also fix the issue. IMPORTANT: I am using an SSD, I've came to understand that using an SSD would have better performance than an HDD when using larger pagefile sizes, however the disadvantage is that you deplete it's lifespan once used aggressively. Here's a video on how to increase it if anyone would like to know. Many thanks to everyone and their suggestions and input, Happy New Year everyone! Nick.
  2. Definitely, my motherboard is a bottleneck as well, wrong chipset and the memory and storage speed compatibility is long out-dated.
  3. figured that it could be my RAM, I think I gave up with this build, honestly wasn't upgrading until zen gets out but I'll have to get a propper 990fx chipset mobo and my 8gb stick back. I appreciate the responses m8.
  4. well according to this video, I shouldn't be getting the fps drops, they drop from 45 to 15 and below for a couple ms or so
  5. hit the enter button and somehow managed to post the thread....sigh
  6. I am going to back flip off of my balcony if someone doesn't help me with this problem. I keep getting a crazy amount of dropped frames and I'm not getting the performance I should with my current build. In games such as Assassin's Creed 3 & Ryse: Son of Rome. I mainly play CSGO and recently started playing casual games again. I made a video to show you the terrible performance I'm getting in Ryse: Son of Rome and I've attached screenshots of the system's stats while I play said game for about 10 mins or so. Here's another video with a similar GTX 960 that doesn't get the dropped frames I'm experiencing. They drop from 45 to 15< for a couple of ms My specs are as follows. CPU: AMD FX-8350 4 - 4.2GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 960 2Gb (reference) RAM: Kingston Hyper X 8Gb 1600Mhz (DC 1333Mhz/ 667Mhz) HDD: Crucial M500 128GB & a Cheap Transcend SSD MOBO: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev 5.0) ~~~760G chipset with a 990fx cpu PSU: Rosewill Capstone 750w 80+ Gold Only going through the stats I noticed I only have 4GB of RAM installed, that would be me using the other 8GB stick in another computer at my parent's house, RIP As you can see in the video when there is camera movement, frames drop like crazy, you can check the stats below for any potential bottlenecks, any feedback is appreciated, this is my 3rd and final post on this issue.
  7. i forgot to mention in the post that I had closed HWinfo by mistake when I was done, riva tuner and cpuz weren't logging as well, really sorry guys you can check the post I linked in the thread here https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/704101-poor-fps-ac3/ There are some screenshots of some of the system stats monitored. I'd run through Ryse again but it's late and I got an exam tomorrow
  8. Herro Everyone! Making this thread because I'm not getting the performance that I should out of my system. I made a thread yesterday with regards to poor performance in Assassin's Creed 3 (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/704101-poor-fps-ac3/) After settling on the possible conclusion that my GPU's video memory and or Assassin's Creed Anvil engine not favoring multi-core CPUs was the cause of the poor performance at that time. I played Rise of the Tomb Raider on near Ultra on 1080p and got around 45-50fps, which performed phenomenally! Today I decided to be play an old classic Ryse: Son of Rome, where I ran into a lot of skipped frames when moving the camera in certain maps especially the jungle map with the abundance of dynamic foliage (Chapter IV : The King). Monitored the system for an entire half hour playing through and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Looking at my system specs I'm trying to narrow down possible bottleneck(s) that could could be causing said performance in such old games. CPU: AMD FX-8350 4 - 4.2GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 960 2Gb (reference) RAM: Kingston Hyper X 8Gb 1600Mhz (DC 1333Mhz/ 667Mhz) HDD: Crucial M500 128GB & a Cheap Transcend SSD MOBO: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev 5.0) PSU: Rosewill Capstone 750w 80+ Gold Additional Info : Using a 1080p 60Hz Monitor on a cheap 15ft HDMI cable. Now that we have the specs out of the way lets get down to business, I've listed the possible bottlenecks below and the reason why next to them, any advice would be appreciated, I purchased most of these parts back in highschool as I were on a budget, I'm presently in university and I still can't afford top end PC hardware, I cherry picked the parts because it suited my budget at the time and I knew they would be compatible with each other to some extent where it WORKS and it has worked for the past 3 years and has not failed me once to this day. So please don't judge my decisions at the time. Motherboard Bottlenecking the entire system- My mobo is a 760g chipset motherboard, at the time all I cared about was getting an AM3+ socket board, I know there would be a substantial gain moving to a proper 990fx board for my 8350 and moving from the 4+1 phase power phase to 8+2 I could juice a lot more power from the 8350. The motherboard is also an old Sata 3Gbs which isn't using my SSDs full potential. It also only supports 1333Mhz (rev 5.0) which also downclocks my 1600Mhz ram. Graphics Card could be faulty- I mainly play CSGO, I hardly played casual games since I got the GTX 960, look at how the same card performs in systems similar to mine, persons get 15-20 fps difference and their games and they don't get those frame skips in those texture ridden games unless you throw a lot of textures at it's 2Gbs. Just a theory that I may have a faulty GPU or so. Many thanks if you have reached this far into the OP and so much for your time and any contributions and or advice would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get around why I'm getting these frame skips and frame drops in these games.

    Poor FPS AC3

As I stated earlier it's not a bottleneck but an Optimization issue. I raised the max temp of the GPU in afterburner back to 81c stock, it was 70c prior. I'm getting 35-45fps (wide range of 10 fps because it varies really ridiculously) or so in Boston now and it ramps up to 60-70 fps in isolated areas where there are not much AI moving around. Monitored the entire system with riva tuner and played the game for 15 mins Had HWinfo doing stats in the background and these are the results. What's still puzzling me is that someone with a cpu of the same architecture has better perf, They're using an fx 6300, in this video. Difference is that their card is an aftermarket 4GB while I'm using the 2GB reference. I can possibly conclude the issue as a lack of video memory and optimization of the Anvil engine for multi-core CPUs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulp9xDj6wNc

    Poor FPS AC3

CPU doesn't go over 50c on an EVO 212 There's enough memory. And I'm using SSDs. I was advised that I use an fx 8350 which doesn't have good single thread performance and AC3 has terrible multi threading performance. After doing some more research on it it turns out to be true, Anvil engine in AC3 & Black Flag doesn't utilize hyper-threading and multi threading capabilities of most CPUs. Verdict is that it's an optimization issue, not a system issue.

    Poor FPS AC3

You should refrain from calling people stupid on this forum, it increases your chances of being banned. I say this because the gpu core load 80% average, full pci-e link speed usage as well as core clock remaining above 1.1Ghz in game. I'm getting 60 fps in some isolated ares, nothing higher, I'm still looking into it.

    Poor FPS AC3

That's not the case because it goes Hulk Hogan on Rise of the Tomb Raider, utilizes 90% of it. while CPU is usually below 50% usage. I'm still looking into it

    Poor FPS AC3

the fps doesn't drop. it's just oddly low compared to my m8's and the video's cpu usage on an average of 40%

    Poor FPS AC3

Herro everyone. Ubisoft is giving AC3 free, thought I'd play the story a 3rd time. I'm using a GTX 960 2GB at 1.2 Ghz or so AMD fx 8350 4gb ram I can play Rise of the Tomb Raider near Ultra at a good 45-50 fps 1080p However I'm having an issue where I'm not getting as much FPS as I should. The performance was awful In Assassin's Creed 3, until I noticed in Nvidia's Control Panel that v-sync was on. I removed it and performance was slightly better In Boston I'm getting a mere 30-35 fps when moving though the crowds. As you can see in the screenshot below. In other isolated places it's around 50-55 or so on average (eyeballin) My m8 who has a similar card gets almost twice the amount of fps I have and we have similar rigs, he has an i7 4770. Also in this video you can see how the game is meant to perform on the same card, can someone tell me what's up or any advice on how to fix this? Playing on the same settings as the video.
