Howdy everyone. I haven't built a machine since my old P4. I have bought them pre-made since I left CompUSA way back when.
I am looking to replace my dinosaur of a machine with a rig that would survive another 12 years.
Unless Intel announces a 10NM chip before October I am going with AMD a 3950X
I have a need to run Linux as well as Windows so I am tempted to run a hypervisor then virtualize both OS's. I will need to see what the performance of that solution is vs. booting off of a separate M.2 in a dual boot.
Country: USA
Currency: Freedom bucks
Budget: Within reason for a higher end gaming rig (3200 -3400)
Case: be Quiet! Dark Base pro 900 Silver Full Tower
MB: MSI Godlike E-ATX MEG 570 ACE
Proc: Ryzen 9 3950
Cooler: icegiant AM4 chipset
Memory: G.skill ripjaw 2x16gb DDR3600 CL16
PCIE 4.0 drive: 2 x M.2 corsair 1tb
Power supply: Corsair AX1000
Fan Cases: 140mm Noctua maybe 2 for exhaust
Graphics: Nvidia 3080 ( whatever Ti XT RTX ABC)
Fun Addon: Steam VR and Minecraft for Daughter.
My reasoning for the E-ATX is because of the IceGiant cooler. I want to make sure I have room between the 3080 and the CPU Cooler for proper airflow.
My reasoning for the Ice giant is my machines are a "set it and forget it" kind of thing.
I would prefer not to have RGB as my epilepsy does not allow such things.
The only real part I am concerned with is the Mother board.
Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
